I wasn’t wow’ed by the Eurodam like I was the Niew Statendam. The food on the Lido deck had the same selections every day the entire cruise (7days). The carving station was always out of food. The dining room was chaotic and not the quiet atmosphere I’m used to on other ships. My husband ordered a burger and fries for lunch one afternoon and the burger came out 15 minutes after the fries. I will say that every staff member we encountered was friendly, polite, helpful and a joy to visit with. I had several treatments at the spa and they were very relaxing and staff so accommodating! Overall, our experience was a good one, though I would appreciate a better food selection and a little more upkeep of the ship.

It was relaxing. Cabin stewards, Lido Cafe and dining room staff were traveler-focused and terrific. Food was okay, but lacking in variety over the course of the trip. We had two 'small' fires that were handled well by the captain and crew, but it was an indication that the ship needs refurbishing. It's in drydock now, so hopefully there won't be a repeat. Main stage entertainment wasn't great, and I missed having the enrichment lectures I've experienced on other Holland America (and other cruise line) voyages. Post-pandemic issue? We came on board to relax and rejuvenate, and this cruise met our expectations. Great weather, well run ship, and we met some interesting fellow passengers along the way.

We had cruised on two other HAL ships so we decided to do it a third time. We liked that the itinerary (Eastern Caribbean), was 11 days long with 8 ports and 3 sea days. I suspect that because it does the Western Caribbean , Eastern Caribbean and then Southern Caribbean back to back , people choose to stay on the ship for longer. There were many passengers staying on the ship for a month and even longer. Due to this, the demographic was older and quieter than we had experienced on the Nieuw Amsterdam and Nieuw Statendam which were 7 day itineraries. Holland America is a more premium line and more traditional. Very few kids onboard . The Eurodam is an older ship, this smaller. Overall, we were pleased. We wanted to get away from the cold and relax and that's what we did.

Holland America allows smoking in all open air venues including balconies.  Shame on us for not checking it out before sailing.  We assumed that all major cruise lines had moved into the modern age regarding smoking.  We had people smoking next to us while we were sun bathing on the sun deck.  We couldn't use our balcony on several occasions due to the smoke coming from other balconies and the pool area above our cabin. The Lido buffet was complete chaos.  All drinks except for those from the bar are self serve.  Virtually no refill service was offered at our table.  To make things worse you had to walk the entire buffet to view all food selections.  These two issues caused extra traffic and confusion.  Plate clearing was non-existent on most of our visits to Lido. After 11 cruises we are convinced you can get better value and organization on Princess, Celebrity, or Royal Caribbean.

Only issue were trying to make the anytime dining reservations (we were given different answers to how many days in advance we could do this, from 1 day to 3 days so several times we had to speak to a manager to get this sorted out) and the Internet connection. Spent over half our Internet time trying to connect. Perhaps the computers in the Explorer's Lounge need upgrading. All in all, a very pleasant experience.

Just not top notch

By: Robert999

We prefer smaller ships. A relative selected Eurodam for a family cruise. The little things add up: 1. When I have to pay for a dinner reservation at a specialty dining room, I don't expect to be seated near a dishwash room with the door propped open. The cacophony was ear splitting. The host was surprised by our complaint. Only the deaf would miss the discordant racket. We should not have had to complain. 2. HAL is NOT wine friendly. We had Explorer Package beverage cards. They are only good for drinks under $7. With the exception of an awful Prosecco, all wines by the glass are over $7. You can order first class alcohol for mixed drinks with the card, first class wine NO. 3. Knowing HAL's wine deficiency our family members brought bottles of very good wine for dinner. Our beverage steward and the sommelier didn't appreciate it, they treated us with benign neglect. Hovering at adjacent tables, virtually ignoring our table. We had to flag them down when we wanted to order something.

By: Traveller

Reviewed on: 05 Oct 2015

The Eurodam is a newer Holland America Ship. It has it's good points and it's weak points. Our Penthouse Stateroom was lovely and our cabin stewards were flawless. The ship handled rough water well and we were never thrown around in heavy seas. The two problem areas were overcrowding and the poor quality food in the dining room. The overcrowding was most evident when there were waves of people going one way or the other in the public areas of the ship. The show room was inadequate for the number of passengers. People were standing, sitting on the stairs or just leaving. During the cocktail time before dinner there were frequently no seats available in the lounges. These problems are solvable. The other issue was the poor quality of the food. We sailed on another Holland America ship a year ago on a 3 week cruise of the Eastern Mediterranean and the food was fine. The menu selections this time included liver, kidneys, sweetbreads, and ox tail entrees. Food was overspiced

We had a wonderful time ! Wonderful weather and great excursions! I loved having my smoked salmon waiting for me every morning on the Lido deck. The whole crew was wonderful, happy and always greeted you with a "good morning"! We loved the free room service and took full advantage of it! Amazing how quickly you can enjoy being spoiled so! We anticipated every night- coming back to our stateroom to see what "animal" awaited us- transformed from bath towels. The only bump in the road was when we arrived in Saint Martin! -the French were on strike ( what a surprise??) - So we were not able to go to the French side of the island. Half Moon Cay was absolutely beautiful with the cleanest whitest sand I have ever seen! Now - being back home.. I have to learn how to ( once again) make my own bed and cook my own meals.. Horrible!! Bridgett is always available to answer any questions and assist in all aspects of our trips. She exemplifies excellence in customer service. On this last trip she assisted my son and I with a matter that we addressed to Patricia in the Neptune Lounge. I took Patricia of copy of a correspondence with a Holland employee stating they were going to apply a credit on our statement. The credit had not been applied. I spoke with Patricia on several occasions and showed her the correspondence twice. She stated she would call someone regarding the correspondence. She later called me and asked me to bring the correspondence up to the Neptune again and stated it would take care of it. When I got there she to glanced at it and rudely stated that the person I corresponded with was mistaken and that she did not see where they agreed to a credit. I pointed it out to her for the 2nd time and she just stated that the person misunderstood. Bridgett ended up taking care of it. Thank You Bridgett.

Great Mid-size ship

This was not one of the mega ships but the only thing that suffered from that fact was there was not a whole lot of shopping on board. That was not a loss for us, we prefer smaller ships and we don't typically buy a lot on board anyway. They had an a very knowledgeable port director on board who would give you very good advice for each port. With his help we took off on our own in several ports. We also enjoyed the excursions we took through the ship. I think it's always best to use the ships excursions, even if they sometimes cost a little more. The quality is just usually better. We had a couple of things in our cabin that needed fixing and they were there super fast to take care of it. The room stewards were very friendly, in fact everyone was very friendly. You couldn't pass any employee without them smiling at you and giving you a greeting. This was the second time we have been on this cruise line and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

Basically, we had a wonderful cruise (12-day Mediterranean Tapestry - Barcelona to Venice). As usual, Holland is a "step-above." However, there were a few things we noticed that were not as good as previous cruises (we have taken a number of HAL cruises). Specifically, the main dining room seemed to have less staff, leading to longer waits (though our waiter and his assistant were absolutely excellent). The Lido changed its format which made it a bit confusing to find what you wanted; also, the deli corner has cut back on the variety of deli meats. We also noticed that the 2-day hold on self-service in the Lido (for health reasons) was not being used. On the positive side, the food was very good and the ship's staff was very accommodating to our requests. We plan to take HAL cruises in the future.

After looking forward for so long to really celebrating our 51st wedding anniversary, our trip was cut short as I broke my ankle on the first full day of the cruise. We had taken an Alaskan cruise the year before on the Ms. Noordam and loved it. The cruise this time consisted of the first evening dining in the dining room. Food was amazing as was service. The next morning, my spouse and I had a quick breakfast and went on to go on our excursion in Toulon, France. In Aix-en-Provence, as I was heading for the bus, I stepped off the curve and somehow broke my ankle in three places. I was taken back to the ship where I was given medical attention and meds for the pain. The medical staff were very attentive and most showed compassion. We were then advised to fly back to the United States where I would require surgery w/screws and plates. Until I could be disembarked which took place in Italy, I remained in my stateroom in pain.

The Eurodam was not as nice as other ships we have been on. It was lacking atmosphere. We realize that the weather can't be helped, but since we were able to enter only 2 of the intended 5 ports, the management on the Eurodam could have made the stay a litte more special, i.e. have something like a Luau on the ship since now one could go into Lahaina to attend a Luau.

We were pleasantly surprised by room size and usability, including the bathroom. Nicely appointed but can be crowded because of hallway width and people management. Crew and staff are helpful and polite, especially wait staff and room stewards. Certain entertainment and presentation venues can become overcrowded. A proprietary wifi for information and internal messaging is available for free but it feels very dated and will not seem satisfactory to anyone younger than 55. At a minimum, standard texting should be available at no cost. Food is good but not excellent. Port time is minimal, so advance planning should be emphasized in order to make the most of it. Victoria, BC is a highlight. Best entertainment, by far, was the Lincoln Center Stage performances.

Reviewed on: 02 Nov 2019

Let me begin by saying that the staff was amazing as always. However the ship, the officers and customer relations left this traveler more than disappointed. On the next to the last day they sent crews to the Sea View Bar Lido Deck and literally made the patrons move to a roped off area so they could drain the pool and use cutting torches and grinders to cut off the ladders and various items. The smell was terrible and they also starting spreading chemicals on the deck, ALL without notice or explanation. When an officer was confronted he basically blew it off and said “go to customer service and complain”. Never gave anyone an explanation. Speakers on the back deck were missing, wires hanging, never fixed throughout our 27 days aboard!!! Speakers on the back deck only worked on one side of the deck throughout the entire 27 days. Seemed as though staffing was cut as tables in the Lido Deck buffet area were left with dirty dishes while people were walking all over looking for a place

HAL Holiday Cruise

Reviewed on: 22 Jan 2020

We took the same Holiday Cruise on the same ship in a Neptune Suite 2 years ago, only the ports were different. We did find a number of differences that do not reflect well on HAL. The entertainment left much to be desired. The second week had an exact repetition of the first week on the main stage. The same second rate magician appeared on that stage 4 nights in the 2 weeks with the same act! The daily ballroom dance hour took place in a darkened room with a closed bar with canned waltz music for the whole hour one night followed by an hour of tango music the second night. We did not return for a third night! The Orange Club idea needs to be thought out in a better way. The only benefit we found for suite guests was one extra menu item on the menu in the main dining room nightly. They may want to look at the suite perks on Celebrity! We did enjoy all the meals in the specialty restaurants, especially Tamarind. Our cabin stewards were excellent. We never had to wait for service

Accommodation and food were good. Service was outstanding. Embarkation was disastrous involving standing in line outside for over an hour before reaching security and then long lines for registration. Previous HAL cruises have always involved SEATED waiting areas for embarkation. Disembarkation was flawless but delayed. HAL tours on this cruise were generally not up to usual standards. More sea days than usual. Destinations were interesting but not outstanding and often involved industrial container ports requiring land transportation elsewhere.
