Food & Entertainment was excellent. We have recommended Holland America to our friends. We were however disappointed with our stop at Turks & Caicos. I'm sure it was a beautiful Island but our stop was in a very poor area and I was happy to get back to the ship.

We will never sail on Halland America again!!

Holland America allows smoking in all open air venues including balconies.  Shame on us for not checking it out before sailing.  We assumed that all major cruise lines had moved into the modern age regarding smoking.  We had people smoking next to us while we were sun bathing on the sun deck.  We couldn't use our balcony on several occasions due to the smoke coming from other balconies and the pool area above our cabin. The Lido buffet was complete chaos.  All drinks except for those from the bar are self serve.  Virtually no refill service was offered at our table.  To make things worse you had to walk the entire buffet to view all food selections.  These two issues caused extra traffic and confusion.  Plate clearing was non-existent on most of our visits to Lido. After 11 cruises we are convinced you can get better value and organization on Princess, Celebrity, or Royal Caribbean.

Although the Eurodam is a smaller, older ship it is very well kept. The staff is polite, respectful and most accommodating. Food was excellent and very nicely presented. Balconies are large. Only issue were trying to make the anytime dining reservations (we were given different answers to how many days in advance we could do this, from 1 day to 3 days so several times we had to speak to a manager to get this sorted out) and the Internet connection. Spent over half our Internet time trying to connect. Perhaps the computers in the Explorer's Lounge need upgrading. All in all, a very pleasant experience.

This was our second Holland America cruise and we could not have been happier. The Eurodam is a top-notch ship: beautifully maintained, outstanding accommodations, amenities, and staff, and excellent food, activities, and entertainment. Our 12-day Baltic Cruise could not have been better. We enjoyed all ports/destinations and all onboarding/offboarding was like clockwork. After full days on shore we looked forward to wonderful dining followed by near-Broadway-caliber shows and a visit to one of the many varied lounges for a drink and some music. There was plenty of activity to choose from throughout the day and night, and the overall traveler demographic was multigenerational and very active. Highly recommend.

Just not top notch

By: Robert999

Reviewed on: 23 Feb 2015

We prefer smaller ships. A relative selected Eurodam for a family cruise. The little things add up: 1. When I have to pay for a dinner reservation at a specialty dining room, I don't expect to be seated near a dishwash room with the door propped open. The cacophony was ear splitting. The host was surprised by our complaint. Only the deaf would miss the discordant racket. We should not have had to complain. 2. HAL is NOT wine friendly. We had Explorer Package beverage cards. They are only good for drinks under $7. With the exception of an awful Prosecco, all wines by the glass are over $7. You can order first class alcohol for mixed drinks with the card, first class wine NO. 3. Knowing HAL's wine deficiency our family members brought bottles of very good wine for dinner. Our beverage steward and the sommelier didn't appreciate it, they treated us with benign neglect. Hovering at adjacent tables, virtually ignoring our table. We had to flag them down when we wanted to order something.

The Eurodam

By: Traveller

Reviewed on: 05 Oct 2015

The Eurodam is a newer Holland America Ship. It has it's good points and it's weak points. Our Penthouse Stateroom was lovely and our cabin stewards were flawless. The ship handled rough water well and we were never thrown around in heavy seas. The two problem areas were overcrowding and the poor quality food in the dining room. The overcrowding was most evident when there were waves of people going one way or the other in the public areas of the ship. The show room was inadequate for the number of passengers. People were standing, sitting on the stairs or just leaving. During the cocktail time before dinner there were frequently no seats available in the lounges. These problems are solvable. The other issue was the poor quality of the food. We sailed on another Holland America ship a year ago on a 3 week cruise of the Eastern Mediterranean and the food was fine. The menu selections this time included liver, kidneys, sweetbreads, and ox tail entrees. Food was overspiced

We anticipated every night- coming back to our stateroom to see what "animal" awaited us- transformed from bath towels. The only bump in the road was when we arrived in Saint Martin! -the French were on strike ( what a surprise??) - So we were not able to go to the French side of the island. I took Patricia of copy of a correspondence with a Holland employee stating they were going to apply a credit on our statement. The credit had not been applied. I spoke with Patricia on several occasions and showed her the correspondence twice. She stated she would call someone regarding the correspondence. She later called me and asked me to bring the correspondence up to the Neptune again and stated it would take care of it. When I got there she to glanced at it and rudely stated that the person I corresponded with was mistaken and that she did not see where they agreed to a credit. This was not one of the mega ships but the only thing that suffered from that fact was there was not a whole lot of shopping on board. That was not a loss for us, we prefer smaller ships and we don't typically buy a lot on board anyway. They had an a very knowledgeable port director on board who would give you very good advice for each port. With his help we took off on our own in several ports. We also enjoyed the excursions we took through the ship. I think it's always best to use the ships excursions, even if they sometimes cost a little more. The quality is just usually better. We had a couple of things in our cabin that needed fixing and they were there super fast to take care of it. The room stewards were very friendly, in fact everyone was very friendly. You couldn't pass any employee without them smiling at you and giving you a greeting. This was the second time we have been on this cruise line and I wouldn't hesitate to use them again.

Basically, we had a wonderful cruise (12-day Mediterranean Tapestry - Barcelona to Venice). As usual, Holland is a "step-above." However, there were a few things we noticed that were not as good as previous cruises (we have taken a number of HAL cruises). Specifically, the main dining room seemed to have less staff, leading to longer waits (though our waiter and his assistant were absolutely excellent). The Lido changed its format which made it a bit confusing to find what you wanted; also, the deli corner has cut back on the variety of deli meats. We also noticed that the 2-day hold on self-service in the Lido (for health reasons) was not being used. On the positive side, the food was very good and the ship's staff was very accommodating to our requests. We plan to take HAL cruises in the future.

After looking forward for so long to really celebrating our 51st wedding anniversary, our trip was cut short as I broke my ankle on the first full day of the cruise. We had taken an Alaskan cruise the year before on the Ms. Noordam and loved it. The cruise this time consisted of the first evening dining in the dining room. Food was amazing as was service. The next morning, my spouse and I had a quick breakfast and went on to go on our excursion in Toulon, France. In Aix-en-Provence, as I was heading for the bus, I stepped off the curve and somehow broke my ankle in three places. I was taken back to the ship where I was given medical attention and meds for the pain. The medical staff were very attentive and most showed compassion. We were then advised to fly back to the United States where I would require surgery w/screws and plates. Until I could be disembarked which took place in Italy, I remained in my stateroom in pain.

The Eurodam is a lovely ship. I enjoyed the cruise, though would share for short cruises a big ship is a challenge to explore all the delights! I admit I do miss a dedicated coffee bar. However overall the ship is beautiful and the piano duo was terrific! I enjoy Holland cruises. I would recommend the line and this ship.

Great Ship!

The nice think about Holland America is their ships are laid out nearly the same, making adjustment to life at sea much easier. The Eurodam was spotless, well staffed and nicely appointed. Our Signature Suite was spacious and quiet. Meals were fabulous, as were the desserts. I appreciated the option to have breakfast in the room twice, and loved the mid morning trips to the Explorations Cafe for a daily cappuccino. My favorite part of the week was the visit to Glacier Bay with the Forrest Service reps onboard as guides. The day was surreal and the Captain maneuvered the ship so that both Port and Starboard cabins could enjoy the view of the Margerie Glacier. it was WOW! Couldn't even hear the engines, just the peaceful noises of the bay. Great cruise!

So impressed with the ship and the Holland America approach to cruising. The efforts taken to communicate to the passengers, the quality of service, and the sheer ability to manage the movement of thousands of persons at a time was remarkable. Food availability & quality, entertainment, shore excursion opportunities and access to knowledge-building activities was also as laudable.

Holland America Eurodam is a smaller ship and offers courteous and personable service. I was amazed how many staff members on my deck knew my first and last name, The buffet could get crowded during meals. It was sometimes a challenge to find a table. Food was aplenty with a good selection of food being offered on a daily basis. Food and service in the dining room was great. I really enjoyed the evening shows and many programs offered. I found all the staff to be friendly and helpful. I enjoyed the usage of the gym. I would have loved to see more exercise oriented classes.

Wrong Destination/No luggage

By: Momdi

Reviewed on: 27 Nov 2018

Awful! Didn't find out until we were on board that our destination changed and our luggage was put on the wrong ship. For the first 2 days on the cruise, we only had the clothes on our back. Had to pay for a doctor appointment, to get the rest of my medications that had been packed in my luggage. Second night was formal night... Our first stop was now San Francisco, only an hour from the airport where our car was parked. We would have ended this cruise the but we would have been charged $800 if we didn't continue the cruise. Now we had to shop for everything we had packed and is now sailing on the wrong ship!

Our cruise was ruined by Holland America's excessive restrictions on smoking. We were not permitted to smoke on our own stateroom balcony even though there are privacy panels that separate the balconies of adjacent staterooms. Also, there was only one very small outside area at the back of the ship reserved for smokers which was very crowded and noisy all the time. Even worse Holland America gave us no advance warning about their smoking restrictions. If we had known that the restrictions were going to be this severe, we definitely would not have booked the cruise.

HAL continues to provide good "bang for the bucks". Food service and entertainment were all very good and cabins are spacious compared to many. We went RT from SAN down the Baja peninsula. Not a very scenic or exciting itinerary. If you are going for the ship it is fine, but for the itinerary don't bother.
