The Bliss

By: Poozer

Reviewed on: 23 Jun 2018

Time aboard The Bliss was fun. Have been on two of the other big Norwegian boats before so had a good idea of what to expect. Only reason I picked it was the fact that we were ten people and four of them were children. I knew it would have lots of things to keep them busy and if they are busy everyone is happy. Ship itself is nice. Food in speciality restaurants (we ate in 6 of them) was okay but certainly not anything to brag about. Choices on the buffet were numerous but seating was not adequate. Finding a table was sometimes impossible. Entertainment other than Jersey Boys not great. Music around the ship was nothing special. Really missed Dueling Pianos from other Norwegian ships. We did not take shore excursions offered by ship. We used a private company. Would have liked to spend more time in Juneau and Vancouver. All in all family had a great time but I probably would not pick another Norwegian boat as an adult only trip.

Fun for Kids.... but...Lines, Lines, Lines

Reviewed on: 16 Jul 2018

The ads for the new ship looked amazing. Traveling with a party of 8 made up of 3 generations, our children and grandchildren were so looking forward to the car racing, the laser tag and the slide. They got to do none of them. By 3 pm on embarkation day, there was not a time slot available. My daughter stood in the guest services line for hours. These activities were only open several hours a day. Standing in line was of no avail. Same goes for the shows on board. If you did not sign up on line, some of us did, others didn't.. you didn't get in. Lines were long to wait for no shows. Oft times, you had to wait 10 minutes for an elevator with enough room to squeeze into. Although I had made advance reservations as the included restaurants, an additional 30 min or more wait was mandatory. The Specialty restaurants honored reservations and had much better staff. Staff throughout the ship was insufficient. Kudos to the Splash Academy! The kids loved it. That said, we all had fun.

The Bliss is very large, but does not feel overwhelming. Our favorite feature was the Observatory, where you could sit out of the weather and still watch the ocean and catch a glimpse of whales and marine life going by.

It was very classy. It was clean. There was a tremendous selection of places to eat and drink. The pool deck was clean and the waiters were very responsive. The race track was awesome, but very hard to get a time to do it. We only got to do it one time because it was so heavily booked. The slide was fun too, but if you weren't heavy enough (this happened to several adults and one of my crew) you could get stuck. The good news is that there are to escape hatches if that comes to pass.

NCL Bliss Summer 2018

By: Platinum Pro Cruiser

Reviewed on: 02 Sep 2018

Nice layout improvements. Observation Deck at the sacrifice of stateroom balconies was a smart move by NCL. This was the most necessary ship deck plan adjustment made to meet cruisers needs. Garden Cafe moved to Forward ship another excellent improvement in deck plan. Gym and Spa have been moved to Aft ship which groups all physical activities mostly together making this a smart deck plan improvement. On a critique of Food and Specialty restaurants, we found the Specialty Dining slightly under quality from previous ships (Getaway and Escape) and the decore and atmosphere felt repetitive and generic, but Garden Cafe remained excellent. With only one way to enter the Garden Cafe, this help improved hand washing safety. Manhattan Main Dining food quality and menu choices improved considerably. But please remember these comments come from us as critical judges and assure you will still enjoy quite nicely.

Even though this is a massive ship, most of the time it did not feel like it. There was plenty of room for dining. The elevators were extremely busy during the off boarding and on boarding times at the ports, but that would be expected on any ship. The observation deck is definitely a winner!

Fantastic experience that satisfied everyone’s agenda and desire from my 10 year old grandson who spent the majority of his time at Slash Academy and the Kid’s Water Park. That allowed his mom (my daughter) to revel in more adult oriented activities and take time for herself at the Spa. My 2 young adult nieces were thrilled with the late night young adult activities from dancing to karyoke. And for me and my wife, we relished with the ultra luxury options of The Haven from its sun deck to its higher end restaurant and bar. We were all very impressed!

It took a couple of days to fully explore the Bliss. Once we got familiar with the ship, it was fairly easy to navigate. The food was good and the dining options were many. We didn't use the specialty dining but others did and said they were good. Service was a little slow in the Taste and Savor, but the selections were good. The buffet was very good although the repetition for breakfast got a little old. That is to be expected on a 15 day cruise. Entertainment was good with Jersey Boys and the Beatles being the best.

The Norwegian Bliss is an incredible ship. It is a brand new vessel and it really shows. It is something akin to a floating city with enough shows, restaurants and other entertainment insuring that everyone in your family is having a great time. Overall the food is also good. As far as the pay for restaurants, I would highly recommend the Le Bistro as my favorite high end place and the BBQ joint as a good casual alternative. On the entertainment side, Jersey Boys was excellent and the comedy show was also quite good. Lastly, the ship was also great for kids. The youth program team including Camper and Katherine were amazing!

I do not like big cruise ships. I rather a smaller line with less people. The Bliss was nice and fit it’s purpose which was to take us through Alaska. The specialty dining was wonderful, the staff was very nice and the on and off board process was very streamlined and efficient. Any issues that we had, were resolved quickly. I would have liked more time in a few of the ports especially Ketchikan and Victoria. I hate the race to find a table at the enormous buffet. The dining room food was okay. One of the slides was closed, the other operated on crazy hours. The race cars were rarely available and you need to book way in advance. I would have rather had the basketball court back. The rooms were extremely small which made me crazy. In the end it was a nice trip because Alaska was absolutely charming and breathtaking and that’s what really counted.

Made it to Seattle; had to pull off the Alaskan cruise 2 days before sailing due to passing of my brother. I did not purchase the insurance. Since insurance sales are a big part of Norwegian's revenue they have to protect this service; at this point, I believe they are keeping all of the money I paid for the trip. It was never a question for me to cancel the trip, would give it up a millions times over to get my brother back. Would be nice if Norwegian had something in place for this other than an insurance racket. Reading other blogs, it appears Norwegian stand alone on issues like this. You'd think a company that thrives on repeat business would have something a little less harsh. The folks that work the phones for Norwegian were super helpful in canceling all of the excursions I had pre-planned. Still waiting to see if I will get refunded for pre-paid tips and shuttle fee to the airport. The airlines either refunded everything or re-booked my flights without extra charges.

We highly recommend sailing on the Bliss. The staff was excellent. The entertainment was good. We got to see a Broadway play, Jersey Boys, which was exceptional. The ship's captain canceled one of our ports due to bad weather. We felt very safe during the cruise. We would have liked longer time at some of the ports. We had some experts come aboard the day we spent at Glacier Bay which was informative. In the future cruise ships should make things easier for disabled. We had several people in wheelchairs apologize for taking up room on elevators.

Pros and cons Norwegian Bliss cruise

Reviewed on: 22 Jan 2020

On the positive side, the freestyle approach with many restaurants and a backup “cafeteria” suited me well. Also many activities and good communication of what’s available every day. But, as this is a very large ship (4000 people) the pool area and hot tubs were always overly crowded on good weather days. Stateroom was nice but mini bar really had very little in it. Housekeeping was minimal at best. But I felt overall it was good value but next time I might choose a smaller venue.
