The staff and crew were accommodating and pleasant.  The Sun is the size of ship we like.  However, the food was mediocre, and the ship was threadbare.

I love Norwegian!

Norwegian's "Freestyle Cruising" is the only way to go! I love the flexibility of eating dinner whenever you feel like it and the ability to eat with anyone, at any table you desire. There are no set dinner times and you are not assigned to any particular table where you have to dine with the same group of people each time. It was such a relaxing experience. The on-board activities are so much fun and the crew and staff are so accommodating and helpful! I am definitely looking forward to cruising with Norwegian again.

Laid back cruise

Reviewed on: 01 Jul 2016

We went to Alaska. This was our first cruise. We discovered that we were not really cruise people. The days at sea were boring. Having the swimming stuff - wave pool, swimming pool, hot tubs outside in 50F weather makes little sense. We did not find much to do on the ship. The ports of call were a very different story. They were great. Alaska is beautiful. The food was ok with suppers much better than breakfast. Even though there were lots of people on-board, the boat did not feel crowded. Having a moving hotel was nice where one did not have to package and unpack each day.

This was the first time we have cruised. The food was ok but not outstanding. The ship could use some updating but for the most part was fairly clean. The nightly entertainment was very good and the spa treatments I booked were excellent.

The iteniary was excellent and it was a 14 day cruise. Our cabin was clean and nice. Service was best ever on a cruise ship. Food in general dining rooms was mediocre at best. Food in Garden Buffet was barely mediocre. However, 14 days and multiple stops in places like Sitka and Icy Point were amazing. You will spend some money on excursions but to see Alaska from a float plane or see whales bubble net feeding is worth it! Just don't expect haute cuisine unless you are willing to eat in their specialty restaurants.

Because we were a family traveling together, we spent quite a bit of time gathering in each room. Mostly in our large Owners Suite. We all played games and sat around just talking etc. We were a 3 generational family of 8. The specialty dining rooms were very nice.

Enjoyed freestyle dining and their numerous speciality dining. Ship although refurbished last year, did show its age. I believe NCL is replacing this ship in 2018. Shows did not seem to be as good as Holland.

NCL - Always dependable

NCL has never let us down. Great food, pleasant staff, and a comfy bed! We have noticed that as with so many other things in the service industry, some of the old frills are gone; we used to love having our eggs and coffee on the balcony in the morning as a part of our stay, but alas, it is now a premium charge. Robes are no longer standard in balcony cabins..... BUT, that said, the experience is still great....

Cruise from Miami to Santiago

This was my fifth cruise with NCL and the fourth with "Norwegian Sun" and also this time I sincerely enjoyed the stay on board with all the programs one could participate in. I particularly liked the open dining. I had all my meals at the buffet at Garden Cafe, the food was excellent. I also liked the "Self-Assist Disembarkation". It was so much easier to just walk off the ship with my suitcase, at the end of the cruise. Hope to be back with NCL some day.

NCL cruise

By: Kitty

Reviewed on: 12 Mar 2018

The cruise was fine. The ship isn't my favorite; the Garden Café is small and layout is awkward. Neither the shows (with the exception of the Sun Production ones) nor the groups providing music in the bars were up to the standard we had come to expect. As Latitude platinum members, we were never invited to a Latitude party and we didn't get nightly chocolates with our cute little towel animals (love them!) I managed to catch the flu, (not NCL's fault) so I had to use the medical clinic. I was very impressed with the doctors and with the medical facilities.

Comfortable Ship

The Sun was very easy to navigate around and the the total passenger limit (2000) is perfect if you don't like crowds. All the dining options were great as they were convenient. Nice concept. Food was good and the waiters we had (we asked for their particular station each night) were tremendous. Enjoyed the onboard experience but wished there was more room for shops but yes it's a smaller ship. All in all we had a great week.

Average cruise

By: Paul

Reviewed on: 01 Sep 2018

I'd rate the Sun as average compared to other ships. The ship was a good size, with all of the usual amenities The staff was not as friendly or entertaining as some cruises we've been on, and the food was pretty average. We didn't go to the fancy restaurants; maybe they were better. We felt the entertainment was sub-par, including a band near the pool that was so loud you couldn't talk to someone across the table from you. Maybe this more geared toward people in their 20s or 30s than people in their 50s. Internet service was somewhat poor, as was the NCL phone app. We enjoyed the shore excursions -- the Key Lime Bike Tour in Key West, a Vintage Car tour in Havana (booked outside of NCL for half the price) and an evening walking tour in Havana. Overall, I'd recommend the trip largely because we enjoyed the stops in Key West and Havana, but there might be better ships. (BTW, we chose the ship -- it was not based on any sort of recommendation by our travel agent.)
