Nice ship - Mixed Experience

By: rk

Reviewed on: 14 Sep 2013

Large ship, but suite amenities, and easy access in ports mitigated crowd issues. Excellent entertainment and experiences in Chops Grill and Concierge Lounge. Having bridge program was a big plus. We had major issue with one suitcase taken mistakenly by another passenger on departure. Although we filed claim form and luggage returned to RCCL same day at 3:30, we never received it while in London for five night. UK customer relations made us contact Miami which delayed process.

Great Ship

This was our first experience travelling with Royal Caribbean and we were very impressed with the "Independence of the Seas". The service was outstanding, the ship immaculate, and the fact that we were always able to get a chaise lounge in the shade made us extremely happy. There were 11 of us travelling, and the dining accomodations worked out very well. The service was excellent, and the wait staff went out of their way to make us happy, although the food was for the most part mediocre.

The ship, staff, and amenities aboard Independence of the Seas were amazing. They really do their best to ensure that everyone stays healthy by taking preventative measures. For instance, on your way into the buffet, they hand out antibacterial wipes so you can wipe your hands. The staff and guests everywhere on the Ship was so friendly. People all over the ship offered up great suggestions throughout our voyage.

We had a great cruise. The service was excellent everywhere except the SPA. We are gamblers and the slot machines on this ship are OLD. Seriously, it is time to upgrade. The selection is terrible. The shows were terrific. the food was ok. the windjammer food is really bad. Loved the drink package, but really who supplies your wine? I bought the premium package and there are no premium wines on this package. Up to $12 a glass. But no bars stock anything but Castle de gut rot. I was able to get the casino to stock Kendall Jackson. All in all we had a great time.

Enjoyable cruise

By: bertdevry

Reviewed on: 27 Mar 2015

This cruise was very enjoyable and the dining waiter, assistant waiter and the stateroom attendant were outstanding and went well beyond the requirements to make the cruise outstanding relaxing. We were disappointed with the ships singers, dancers, and guest performances. In additional, the evening show time changed a couple of times during the cruise which made it difficult to get to some of the showings. We missed a few because of it. Perhaps this was due to our using “any time dining” on the cruise. The dining room receptionist was very professional and helpful in assisting us during the reservation process.

On our cruise, we recieved outstanding service, really great food, and small touches that made for a great cruise. Our room attendent brought ice twice a day, and always had our room clean. Dinner service in the main dining room was excellent. When iI saw that shrimp cocktail was not on te menu the first night, I asked for it. On the next night and for the remainder of the cruise, we got shrimp cocktail with dinner. You cant find service like that in any restaurant. The ship facilities were great. Plenty of pools, hottubs, recreational and entertainment on board. The shows were very good.

Overall we had a great time and the ship was a lot of fun. I did get the infamous nori virus on day 4 of an 8 day cruise and had to remain in isolation for 33 hours. I feel the staff handled my illness very well and the medical staff specifically gave me medication to clear the illness up asap. They asked me to remain in my room so not to spread the virus and I complied. They called to check on me several times. They offered to bring food to my room. They comped all the movies I rented in the room, the Internet fee and the drink/snack charges from the mini fridge in the room. They also advised they would be discounting my next cruise and they brought me a goodie/get well bag to the room. I was appreciative they treated me well.

Large ship, Friendly staff

This was a very large ship and can get crowded at peak times, but there is plenty to do to keep even the most adventurous family occupied. The dining room staff is the best we have ever encountered. The staff was so friendly and will meet any of your needs. I would definitely recommend this ship to anyone. As recommended by our travel agent, it was a huge benefit to have a balcony room with two teenage children. The extra space was wonderful and it was great to be able to see the ports from a different view.

Independence is a wonderful ship with lots of activities to keep everyone busy. The room sizes were spacious and always cleaned to perfection. The buffet and dining room food not as good as I would have liked, but the service was excellent and the specialty dining options were delicious. Well worth the extra fee. Although there was a little waiting time to disembark in port (4,000 people), it went smoothly and fairly quickly. Even though we had 987 children on board the week of our cruise, the children were well occupied and not disruptive or noticed by adult passengers. Front desk staff was very helpful also. Overall a great cruise.

Boarding and disembarkation were unusually caotic, and they didn't treat the people who needed assistance very well. We were the last to board because of lack of wheelchairs and staff. great, many things so do on bord of the Independence ots on 7 days at seas ( good shwos, pools, climb, minigolf). The food, spec. dinner was first class. We like this itinerary, it was a mix, between caribean- and transatlantic cruises. With Labadee, San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Kitts and St. Maarteen enough possibilities to swimm and enjoy the beautifull caribbean island. Also we were in luck with the weather. Sunshine in the caribeean islands and only 2 day rough weather during the transatlantic passage.

Beautiful ship physically but food in the buffet was poor. The food in the main dining room at all meals was good but the service was erratic. Boarding of the ship was too slow because the staff was inefficient; stood in line for 40 minutes. The entertainment was very good especially the specialty acts and the ice show was excellent. There were plenty of activities on the ship but Istill cannot understand how they allow smoking in the casino. The staff seemed fatigued for the previous cruise that had an outbreak of Nero virus.

The ship is huge and has a ton of amenities...certainly enough to keep us occupied on our 5 night cruise. We went with a group of young professionals and had a blast. Certainly recommend the drink package for those that want to have a few more than a few like we did. The food was decent but nothing to write home about...that said I do live in a major city where restaurants are phenomenal so I’m a bit spoiled day to day. My only regret is not waiting for the ship to be overhauled which I understand will be completed during it the beginning of 2018.

Great Ship - has lots to offer the entire family - Our room attendants were wonderful - we had fantastic service at both Chops Grille and Giovanni's Table - and Wendy in the pub was our favorite - Great time in Labadee - we did jet skis and rented a private cabana - we had a fantastic time in Haiti. We did a third party excursion in Jamaica via Jaital for transportation and a day pass to the White Sands Resort - and had the BEST day there - it was beautiful and very close to the Falmouth port so we enjoyed a good amount of time. Highly recommend going down a day ahead when cruising as we hit delays on our way out of logan bc it's winter - a tip from our travel agent - and definitely was the right move. Great family vacation.

This was our 16th sailing with Royal Caribbean. The itinerary was nice, as we visited places we had not been before. Lubeck, Oslo, and Bruges were fascinating and the service aboard the ship, particularly by our cabin attendant was outstanding. We took advantage of each of the specialty restaurants at least once, including Izumi Japanese and Sushi for the first time. All, particularly Giovanni’s Table, were very good. Our “My Time” dining needs were met with a nice table for two in a quiet location as we requested. Unfortunately, the ship itself could use some sprucing up. The door to the bathroom was creaking loudly and was in disrepair. The cabinetry in our stateroom was also in need of repair. The sauna and steam room in the Men’s spa was not working correctly, and the Whirlpools were either not hot enough, or some jets were not working. Inclement weather forced most passengers inside at times causing quite crowded conditions, however, to the crew’s credit, addtional seating was set

Independence of the Seas leaving Southampton

Our vacation on Independence of the seas was wonderful. We had chosen a room at the very back of the boat so we could watch the wake. I have had these rooms before and enjoy them immensely. We were on the 10th floor so we only had to go up one floor for the windjammer open buffet or down to the 3rd floor for sit down dinner. Since we were on the back we see both sides while traveling which is nice. The staff on the boat were wonderful. They were constantly cleaning the hand railings so no one would catch the neuro virus. There was a notice on our bed when we arrived that the cruise before ours had had many people with the virus so they had taken extra precautions and were sanitizing everywhere. I always take lysol wipes and when we enter the room I wipe everything down.... handles, doors, walls drawers, etc. We had no problems. The entertainment was fantastic. Every night’s show very entertaining. Great trip overall.
