RCI for cruising, but maybe not Alaska

Overall, I have sailed now 3 times with Royal Caribbean. Twice to the Caribbean and now once to Alaska. I personally think that you have better options for Alaska. So do your due-diligence folks, check out other cruise lines.

We had a very enjoyable cruise that was far beyond our expectations. The staff that included our stateroom attendant, table stewards were exceptional with making sure that all are comforts were taken care of. The amenities, services, activities and theater were great. We were greeted by courteous staff. The only negative part was the ship's doctor for some negative words. We continue to recollect fond memories of our table mates. I will look into booking another cruise next summer.

Be ready to be nickel and dimed during your cruise. There is no free lunch and the accommodations are a bit cramped. Library and game room is tragic. Menu in dining room adequate, but limited.

Very nice experience
Reviewed on: 14 Jul 2014
We were happy with our experience with Royal Caribbean and the Radiance of the Seas cruise to Alaska. The cruise before ours had experienced some flu symptoms, so there was a delay boarding in order to do a thorough cleaning. They were very cautious about the handling of any food or drink item (we couldn't even serve ourselves water), but I get it - and our cruise experienced no significant illnesses (that I'm aware of).The food in the specialty restaurants were especially good - wasn't a big fan of the windjammer - avoided that buffet after the first day. But overall, food was good in the main dining room. The captain seemed very good and we loved the cruise director (Amy). The cabin attendants were also very nice. Everything seemed very clean and we arrived and departed from the various ports of call right when we were suppose to.

Loved this ship. The crew was wonderful and the entire cruise was first class. Royal Caribbean goes above and beyond your expectations to deliver the service and the quality that you expect. The shows were fabulous and we enjoyed our cruise director Amy . She made everything first class. Our waiters and our stateroom person were just like family by the end of our cruise. Also, our Captain was very personable and always let us know when he saw whales and took us to an incredible view of the Hubbard Glacier. Royal Caribbean is definitely the cruise to take.

Radiance of the Seas needs to retire
Reviewed on: 08 Jun 2016
I knew that we would be sailing on a smaller, older ship but the Radiance was a huge disappointment. The ship needs to be gutted! The size is right for Alaska but they have not maintained the inside. We had 2 adjoining cabins w/a balcony. One room smelled of water damage, musty/mold. The cabin attendant tried to cover up the smell by spraying cheap cologne - it was not pleasant. We had to leave the sliding doors cracked to keep air circulating. The bathroom floor in the other cabin was soft. We were contacted one morning and told not to drink the water, it was yellow! We needed laundry service which was not offered until the 4th day of our 7 day cruise, it took 2 days get it back. The towels were dingy and smelled and the mattresses in both cabins were old and hard. If you have sailed on any of RCCL's newer ships I would NOT recommend sailing on the Radiance, you will be seriously disappointed.

The ship was beautiful and we had a great balcony room. The only complaint we had was the shower -- a curtain instead of sliding glass doors -- I did flood the bathroom a few times!! 17 shows -- 16 were excellent -- one we had to walk out on -- did not understand the guy. The 16 that we loved were among the best we have seen! We had my time dining, and it worked out great for us -- very nice restaurants and great service...they really cared for us !!!

It was a wonderful experience. However, it took me almost to the last day to figure out which elevator took us down closest to our room. Of course being 82 might have had some thing to do with it. :) The food was wonderful, both in the dining room and in the Wind Jammer Cafe. We ate most of our meals there. Just the dining room in the evenings. That was because we enjoyed our dinner companions and our waiter was superb.

We are a members of Royal Caribbean Crown & Anchor Program and have cruised on the Radiance in the past. Both the size of the ship and the staff are excellent. We have always had, in the past, a fixed dining time. On this trip we had My Time Dining and do not prefer this type of dining. We will request a specific dining time on our Australia-New Zealand cruise next year.

First -- it's well past time to provide Internet access without additional charge. It's free at McDonald's, Burger King, Dunkin, and all new Chevys. Second -- it's nit-picking to charge additionally for Coke products although I appreciate being coerced to do without them for 7 days. You & Coke may want to reconsider. The cashless system onboard worked with no problems, including handling a canceled excursion. Overall -- the ship was excellent. The room was large enough, the staff outstanding, the food very good, & most entertainment worth seeing. Please -- fewer dancers, more main stage singers (get the acoustic guitar guy from the bar near the theatre), maybe pick up some Ringling acts. Specifics -- The Windjammer Café (near 24 hour buffet), was outstanding, especially at lunch / dinner -- especially the quality & diversity of food. The dinners were very good but the menu could have been more extensive. Also, I expected to be wowed by the desserts but was not.

Celebrity infinity pacific coastal
Reviewed on: 26 Nov 2017
This review is actually for Celebrity infinity, not a royal Caribbean ship. We enjoy sailing with celebrity. This was our first cruise on this class if ship. The infinity’s strong suit is definitely its crew. Each crew member we encountered was friendly and truly seemed to enjoy what they were doing. We happened to be outside during a crew drill and saw them all line up outside. It was very obvious they have a group of people that enjoy working together and like each other. That positive culture was definitely felt through the week. The ship itself is showing its age despite a recent facelift but really if you are in board this boat you are there to appreciate the itinerary, the smaller than mega ship feel, and the crew more than make up for lack of “glitz”. The pacific coast was a great nearby fall getaway. All the excursion providers were enthusiastic and friendly. It was a nice introduction to many spots on the west coast. We definitely want to return to a few.

We had a wonderful time on this cruise ship. The wait staff was exceptional as well as our room steward. All personnel on the ship were very helpful. The selection of excursions at all ports, except Esperance, were very good. We very much enjoyed them. The music on the ship was very good with a wide selection. We especially enjoyed the Sweet Sounds Duo. The only concern was all music played in the Centrum was very loud and very difficult to have a conversation. We would select this Ship in the future.

My family of 10 adults had a wonderful trip. The staff on the Radiance of the Seas was exceptional. The food was great. The windjammer buffets were always good. The Cascade restaurant had the same time and table for us at dinner every night and the menu was excellent. Beef on the ship was good and I'm from iowa so wasn't expecting much. Rooms are small but nice. I highly recommend purchasing the drink package and going on as many shore excursions as possible. Phone reception was not good but I didn't care because I was on vacation. Amazing sights and weather for us. Its a pricey cruise compared to others but well worth the expense. If I were doing it again I would do the three day land tour before the seven day cruise instead of the other way around.
Not sure what you are asking for here.

for some areas (such as Alaska inland passage), the smaller Radiance would be great. For our trip, I think a larger ship would have made the 6 days at sea better with greater variety. In addition, I've never been aboard a cruise ship that didn't have a craps table in the casino. Seems the one on Radiance was replaced with a Texas Hold'em table just before this cruise to be set up for the Australian cruising preferences. Would have been better if they would have made that change once in Australia.

I was very happy with my room on level 4 and inside cabin. It was very spacious. We also had a great steward... Rex. Did love the Winjsmmer for food, and dining room. We even enjoyed snacks at the Cafe after 9pm. We are a preforming group and we did not have at least a 30 min period around the pool to dance for the patrons. Also, no interview from Activities Director about our group on board or leader Shawn Parr from radio with his program Nashville Nights. We are usually part of one morning show. With dining... we did not have a Lobster dinner with Baked Alaska. I know we could have it but would need to pay extra. Princess does not do that. Did enjoy the shows in the theater and saw all of them. Then our line dance group had to retreat to the pool area to do our line dancing each night. Why couldn’t we have one evening to show guests the dancing in the Centrum. Princess always allows us to do a show for the ship inside and out by the pool. This was out 12 th Cruise.

I had a really good time on my cruise. We were in the wake of Hurricane Olivia, I felt the captain’s updates were helpful and made me feel secure. All of the staff was attentive, food was good - not the best cruise food I have had but also not as crowded at the buffet which was very nice. I didn’t find too many drinks that I liked as I do like spirit forward drinks and they just seemed to go light on the alcohol and heavy on the sugar, not my personal favorite. The events that they had on ship were super fun, great crowd and just an overall good time. I thought the husband wife-cruise director team were very professional and approachable. I did love my state room, plenty of space, drawers and closet and our attendant was wonderful.
