Our first cruise and what a great experience! From the moment our bags were picked up by our porter, we knew we had chosen the best cruise possible. The service aboard ship, the shows and fabulous meals were amazing. The deals and shop employees onboard were great, and the parties (loved meeting the captain) were fun. Sailing with Royal Caribbean is a true vacation - we can't wait to sail again!

The crew of the ship knows how to take care of the guest. Specially my room attendant and one of my spa therapist. This two associate made my vacation extremely good. On the other hand, the ship needs a make over- It needs a facelift. You could see clearly that the ship needs so tender loving care.

Wonderful Vacation Despite Ship Problems
Reviewed on: 08 Dec 2014
I planned a Caribbean cruise for my wife's 60th birthday. However, our Caribbean cruise turned out to be a cruise to the Bahamas and Mexico due to problems with one of the ship's engines (which had to be repaired in Nassau), Despite the disappointment with the itinerary change, the overall experience was typical Royal Caribbean--great! (Besides, who wants to be on a ship at sea with an engine problem?) Only real complaint is that the photo gallery closed early the last day and we were not able to see or purchase some of our pictures and apparently we can't view them online after the cruise since we didn't purchase a photo package. Other than that glitch, we had a fantastic time and my wife said she never thought she'd spend her 60th birthday celebrating it on a private island!

Special kudos to our servers every night: Debbie Ann Casandra and Oral Osborne. Their service was outstanding and their personalities meshed so well with our family of 8. My. Kenyata Tingling, the My Time Dining reservation attendant was extremely pleasant. Our Stateroom Attendant, Lily Morgan Pennell made sure our room was always neat and tidy. While our time in some of the ports was cut short, this was not a problem for our family as there were plenty of activities on the ship for us all.

The ship was gigantic! A little too much back and forth! I had my mom with me (84) and the walk from dinner to the show at the opposite end of the ship seemed to be a little too far some days. The food was superb. The bar prices were right on. Didn't do any spa or additional packages. Just wanted to relax and distress!

This ship is much larger than any we have sailed on previously. The lines were long for everything, everywhere! Finding seats by the pool, going on tours, getting a bite to eat in the main promenade . . . lines, lines, lines. CNN did not work on the TV until the last day of the cruise. I think it was a plot for people to buy their internet package. The organization of the tours also seemed disorganized. On the plus side, the crew was very friendly and helpful.

Freedom of the seas is a great boat with lots to do. My only recommendation for them is to update the shows and windjammer needs better choice in food and desserts. We truly enjoyed the experience we had on board the ship. The service was impeccable. We always felt like we were royalty, and we were put first at all times. The service employees always went above and beyond!!! The weather was an issue for us, which we realize you have no control over, however, we did miss going out on our first port at Cocoa Cay. We were very disappointed. Also the snorkeling wasn't suggested on St. Martin because the swells were messing with the clarity of the water! If possible, we would love some kind of compensation for the loss of time and activities. Thanks for the listening ear! :)

This is my fourth sailing on Freedom, though my first as a mama. Things are different when you're sailing with a tiny human. I found sailing in a suite worth every single penny. The electric water kettle for bottles was everything. three refrigerators, two bathrooms & an oversized balcony with room to roam. We were in a royal family suite 9708, the hallway was a bit awkward, but it leads to a common area living room that is perfect when traveling with a group & a little one. The ship was good. the smoking situation was awful. Royal touts being a smoke free line, not when the smoking "area" is near the kids area. Or when the pool attendants & patrol are afeared to enforce the rules set forth in the every single person's cruise contract. That makes it less awesome. Also, the baby diaper pool? the water was too warm & is there a reason there is no sun coverage? they could have moved the mushroom form the H2o zone over to help a crawling baby out. The food was superb.

This ship seemed to be geared to younger travelers with children. We didn't find enough bar staff at any lounge to wait on any traveler at their tables. If you wanted a drink you had to walk to the bar and most of the time there wasn't any logic to how the next person was served. Their shows were very good and professional. The dinning room staff was excellent. Food was same as other cruises ships we have taken. Disembarkation was a nightmare. They need to be more organized and add more ropes to keep people from jumping ahead. You had to cross a line of people who already picked up their luggage and move to the end of the line; I would venture a guess that only 5 - 10 percent of travelers did this.

Great ship as always. They need a few more crew members however as the service was not as good as it has been in the past in the Windjammer, for example. People had to buss their own tables on a number of occasions.

Excellent as usual. The services were impeccable and the food excellent. We liked the dining room eating in which you sit down and order from the menu. We were never disappointed with any of the dishes. The bartenders were great and the rooms were kept nice and clean. The only item missing that would have been nice is an ottoman on the balcony (my feet were really swollen from the long plane trip). It would have made sitting out on the balcony more comfortable.

Cabin steward was average but every other aspect if the ship was above expectations. We are accustomed to Seabourn and Silverseas so knew the service would not be the same but it was excellent and wS above our expectTions. The dining room was good the Chop Grill and Giovannis restaurants were excellent , service top notch and food was delicious. We had an issue and the cruise desk looked after us wry well. Only issue was when we returned from our Florence tour , there were not enough scanners to accomodate all of the returning passengers around the same time , so long lines and waits on bus and waiting to board. At other ports not so bad . I would travel on RCL again even though we do not typically like big ships.

On balance, the trip on the Freedom of the Seas was very good. The pluses were the service, entertainment, shopping, things to do, relaxation. The areas that needed improvement were consistency of the food (meal one day excellent, then mediocre the next day), maintenance of the cabins (not criticizing the person who took care of our cabin) as we had issues, inconsistency of execution (directions, management, service, etc)...almost appeared that the ship had just come from Europe and the crew wasn't "on their game". I was told that Royal Caribbean would be a higher quality cruise than other lines that we have taken, but in some ways this was true yet in some ways it definitely was not true.

Our cruise was fabulous. The ship was excellent, the food was outstanding, and the entertainment was wonderful. The service in both the Windjammer and the Dining Room was vastly improved from last year. RCL listened to last year’s reviews. One of the elevators wasn’t working the whole week but we managed. My only real issue was that there was no differentiation between a smoking side of the Casino and a non-smoking side. There were passengers smoking everywhere so the Casino was very smoky and my group couldn’t spend much time in it. Other than that, it was a great vacation!

Service has actually improved - less pressure to buy add-ons and no more reservations required for the shows (used to cause long lines to get in, even though that seems counter-intuitive). San Juan is the perfect base - we enjoyed a few days in Old San Juan before and after the cruise.

The Windjammer cafe staff work hard and are friendly and attentive. Main dining room staff are also welcoming and attentive but are running in many different directions. Bar staff, some are wonderful and some are NOT! I was shocked as one of the bar staff, Monica, scolded my husband for ordering too many drinks for the number of room keys he had. Totally unnecessary and obnoxious. Pool drink service and pool bar, some are wonderful and some not so much. You learn pretty quickly who to order drinks from. Overall, the food was good for the most part. Specialty restaurants a bit better than main dining room. We ate at Chops, Giovani's Table and Sabor. All were very good. I didn't expect Sabor to impress, but it did!!! Constant pushy sales for different events and dining gets really old quickly.
