We had very nice time on the AmaCello, every excursion was great, even the terrible weather we had, but this in not the ships fault. Any time I would go again and I can recommend to anybody.

The pre-excursions and boat trip to the Christmas markets was fantastic! Our airline flt delayed caused us to be uncertain about the time we would arrive, yet the AMA contact was there at the airport in Zurich to pick us up - one day late! Our tour guide (Uwe?) was with us the whole time and was so very knowledgeable about the cities, the riverways, the scenery and towns along the river. It was a trip of a lifetime for me! Kay

The best on the rivers

It would be impossible to detail every wonderful aspect of cruising with AMAWaterways.  I have just returned from my second river cruise with this company.  While I have not had experience with other river cruise companies, I can say that it would be difficult to imagine that any other company could equal the experience I have had with AMA.  There is no end to capacity for service that they display.  In my experience, there has never been even one lapse in service.  Everyone aboard, from the dishwasher to the captain is completely dedicated to seeing the each and every passenger has an exceptional experience.  While I am often a "penny pincher", I can honestly say that the experience is worth every cent.

We would have liked some "getqway" nooks where one could go to read or visit with another person. There was only one large room and all activities took place there. I would have liked a little more history in preparation of what we were seeing.

Missed Basel

By: Christopher52

Reviewed on: 15 Nov 2014

The AmaWaterways person who booked our flights, gave us a horrible schedule. We did not arrive in Basel until 11:00 pm and missed the whole first day of sightseeing tours, meeting other guests and crew, and missed the first dinner. On top of that, our luggage was lost and we didn't get the luggage until 48 hours later. The AmaWaterways cruise director and crew were excellent. The very friendly and helpful cruise director was very persistent in tracking down our luggage and making sure it caught up with us. The crew also was very friendly and helpful, and other than missing seeing Basel (we've never been to Switzerland before and really wanted to sightsee), we had a wonderful time on the cruise. The daily tours offered a variety of interesting things to see and do. With the exception of missing seeing Basel and the missing luggage, we had a wonderful time on the cruise.

AmaCello - Wine Cruise on the Rhone - June/July 2017

By: JennyJoline

Reviewed on: 22 Jul 2017

We enjoyed our time on AmaCello. We had never taken a river cruise before. Things we enjoyed: the daily excursions were excellent & it was hard to choose which to take! The guides were fluent in English & well informed. Our stateroom was small, but adequate. The service was excellent. We enjoyed going through the 12 locks on the river. We enjoyed the days that we cruised the river during the day. The Rhone is a wonderful river to explore. We enjoyed the little villages & the cities where we docked & appreciated the convenience of walking around each city without always needed to be transported by bus. Things that were ok: The food ranged from good to very good to excellent (on occasion). This was a "wine cruise" with an emphasis on wine with a wine maker from the US who did lectures & served his wine. It was a bit disappointing that our winemaker wasn't French since we were in France. Wines were so-so to good. We expected better wine, being in France.

Good Cruise, But had Issues

By: MonkeyWatcher

Reviewed on: 18 Aug 2017

This was our third trip with AmaWaterways. Overall, is was a good cruise. For the most part, the staff was nice, and the itinerary (the Rhone) was very good. The ship is a bit old, and could be improved, including the fitness room. They should also get some sort of shade on the sun deck, which is too sunny at times. As for the food - breakfasts were very good, lunches were great, but dinners were usually bland, uninteresting, and disappointing. The excursions were great, and all of our tour guides were exceptional. We particularly enjoyed the two bike tours. The biggest issue was with the cruise manager. He was rude, intimidating and put a bad spin on the whole cruise for both of us.

Good, but not perfect

By: Happy traveler

Reviewed on: 13 Nov 2017

This is our third cruise with Ama. First on the Rhine on the AmaDante, next on the Danube on the AmaDolce and now the AmaCello on the Rhone. The boat has been well maintained and looks good. However this experience was not nearly as great as the previous two cruises. It was the little things that were not quite right that piled up during the trip. The "fresh" pillow case had a large stain. We dropped it off at the reception desk and were told it would be replaced at the evening turn down service. Didn't happen. The towels were frayed and scratchy. There was visible mold in the shower after the cabin was serviced. The MahiMahi served at one dinner wasn't Mahi and worse, it wasn't fresh. It was inedibable. Many of the crew members were friendly, personable and eager to please. We have had good experiences with the Ama crews on all three boats. Overall, we enjoyed our cruise and the tours were a highlight. Some of the small details on the boat however need attention.

Our cruise on the AmaCello was great fun, enlightening and invigorating. The ship crew including the captain participated in dancing and the excursions. The staff on board exceeded expectations and were fun. The only real complaint was the onboard pions player could have been better. This was a wonderful cruise with a good choice of excursions - well worth the money.

AmaWaterways knows river cruising

By: Charles and Jan

Reviewed on: 23 Jun 2018

Our trip on the Rhone in Provence was great. The staff of the AmaCello goes over and above. Service in every area is ALWAYS with a smile. Seemingly no request is too much to ask. From the "dancing captain Tony" to the kitchen and housekeeping staff to the sailors, everyone is helpful, kind, and accommodating. And be careful what you say: After a bicycle tour one afternoon, I said to my husband that I'd earned an extra dessert. Apparently, I was overheard by staff because two desserts appeared on my plate that evening! It would have been helpful to have had more details regarding the shore excursions, however. Sometimes the explanations didn't give us enough information to decide which to choose. Sometimes walkers with limited mobility were in the active-walkers group and they struggled to keep up, slowing the entire group. Also, one excursion promised a hands-on cooking class with a chef (food and explanation, but no chef). Overall, we are extremely pleased with AmaWaterways.

I was delighted to enjoy AmaWaterways Colors of Provence cruise from Arles to Lyon. The ship was very comfortable and well-appointed, the food service was splendid, and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Although it's my inclination to explore local areas on my own, I could see that variety and types of land excursions available were perfectly suited to the passengers' wishes. I would certainly recommend AmaWaterways to anyone considering such a cruise.
