The best part of the Panama Canal cruise with Princess was the excellent choice in hiring Bill Keane as the port lecturer. He did a fantastic job of giving information in a timely, concise, down-to-earth manner. He was not only an expert on the canal, but the research for each port was very helpful and informative. One of my favorite parts of a cruise is the evening meal. Princess does an good job of offering a variety of choices and the servers are always attentive and friendly.

I have just returned from a pleasant cruise aboard Island Princess, Aug 2-14. The voyage was excellent, but exhausting what with visits ashore on 9 days. On the whole the staff was accommodating and cheerful. Special mention should be made about the outstanding service and friendliness of Nino and Boris (DR and Horizon), cabin steward Vilnus, and art consultant Annemarie, cruise director Richard Joseph, Frank on reception, and Peter Croyle. While the ports of call were excellent, and the cruise very good, the ship did not measure up to the standards of previous Princess cruises. A certain deterioration was noted in various aspects of the voyage. Service - On previous cruises we were met at the gangway after a day of sightseeing with cold towels and water. This did not happen on four days. We were presented with free drink coupons after the Captain's reception. Nevertheless we were charged for the drinks. After a hassle, on the final day of the cruise, the charges were reversed. 3. It w

The staff and ship were great. Really enjoyed the natural lectures and films. Our cabin Stewart was exceptional. The food was OK in the dining room, AND was really good in the Horizon Buffet area with more offerings in fruits, salads and vegetables. The special restaurant experience (New Orleans) was lacking in the food department. Didn't care for it at all and I know southern and New Orleans food. The constant sales solicitation was tiring! They were always trying to find new ways to part us from our money. Found communication about many items to be lacking. If I would rate the Princess comparing with other cruise lines I've experienced, I would give them 8 out of 1-10. It was somewhat average and what was expected. Will say that they have the Boarding and Disembarking down to the fine points for that number of people. Our destination was spectacular in and of itself. Would have enjoyed more discussion of our ports. Particularly enjoyed having a local aboard.

Very disappointing, having cruised with this company before (as with many others). We have Elite status, so not new to cruising. The two mini-suites bathrooms had black mold(?) around the top. Shower curtains snagged and off the hooks (should have been replaced. Sofas/hideabeds in both suites looked like something found in a junk shop. Room was very tired looking. We booked five spa services. My robe was badly torn and frayed, which should have embarrassed the firm. I told them it should be thrown away. My girlfriend didn't even get a robe - they ran out! We only dine at the specialty restaurants. Sabatini's was as usual excellent. Crab Shack is a theme rest - not specialty. Food was cold and the vegetables extremely overlooked and not edible. Bayou restaurant was equally bad with three of the four of us sending our food back for being overlooked. The replacement meals just as bad. I was so embarrassed for recommending Princess to my friends.

The shows that entertained us in the evenings were very well done and enjoyable. Lots of talent. The only complaint I have is that I felt the food was somewhat bland, the shrimp small and mushy, and anything that had a cake in it (like a tort) was dry and tasteless, and the scrambled eggs in the buffet were kind of runny and not cooked completely. If you were in your room, it was very difficult to hear any shipboard announcements. I felt that this could be a safety issue.

Freezing Cold in Theater and Halls

By: Traveller

Reviewed on: 28 Dec 2017

The whole experience which could have been excellent was once again over shadowed, as it appears to be on most Princess Cruises, is that each night the Princess Theater is so ice cold that even the men are sitting watching the shows with their winter jackets zippered up and freezing their behinds off !!! Women are shivering in their lighter outer wear. The hallways are like winter breezeways. As I write this one week after getting off ship I still have bronchitis and a cough with flem after having been in bed with a fever for the past six days. The closer to the end of each Princess Cruise, the colder their ships become. This has now occurred on multiple of their cruises and if they don’t raise their indoor temperature on their ships to suit average people instead of catering to the fat slobs on board, then they will loose this Elite Member.

We were surprised and pleased to have been upgraded from an inside to an (obstructed view) ocean view stateroom. The stateroom, specialty dining rooms and regular dining room were all excellent. The buffet was less than we'd experienced with other cruise lines. A Canadian wine or two at the wine tasting events would have been good, as we were in Canadian waters. Can't comment on their shore excursions ... we had our own plans. Land time was super....Princess did an absolutely extraordinary job of logistics, managing luggage transfers and providing Princess Lodge room keys without front desk visits. And the two tours -- into Denali and of the Chena Village/steamboat/dredge -- were great. We were impressed with Princess.

Mini suite was roomy and close to 11th deck forward balcony. The best part of our cruise was spending time ashore visiting beautiful Alaska and the wonderful outdoors. We cruise to get us to our locations and don't make use of most of the onboard events and amenities. A smaller ship next time would suit us better!

Only great things to say about this ship. The crew couldn’t have been better, or the ship cleaner. Very upbeat and fun. I took advantage of the different classes and lectures on our at sea days. Food was also great. We had breakfast at the buffet and had lunch in all the different options, all were very good. We ate at 7:45, enjoyed great staff, many food choices and excellent flavors. Almost every evening we went to the show, without exception they were great, VERY talented performers!!

We had a beautiful ADA-compliant suite, with amenities that rivaled or bettered many fine hotels we've stayed at that claim ADA compliance. Our service staff was outstanding (Cabin Steward, Dining Room wait staff), and the variety of entertainment options was more than we could take advantage of. Embarkation and disembarkation throughout the cruise was handled safely and efficiently for our wheelchair guest, and he was accorded the utmost consideration throughout. The ship was well maintained, the entire staff very friendly and professional. It was an experience well worth repeating.

We were very pleased with the cruise from Whittier to Vancouver. Our steward was very pleasant and helpful when needed. The ship was very clean and all the staff were friendly. The only problem we had was having to wait over an hour for a table in the anytime dining. When we were finally seated at two tables of 4, there were quite a few open tables that could have sat all 8 of us. Overall the cruise was great.

This cruise was AMAZING. We did a family trip parents and adult children. We had a blast. This ship was clean and updated. It did not have all the "kid" extras like slides etc. We did not care about that AT ALL so this was the perfect ship for us. The food was good. I would not say great but a solid good. I mean we were not on Regent or Seaborne lol

Our cruise to Alaska was fine. The Island Princess is a very nice ship. The dining room service and food was very good, as well as the speciality restaurants. All shore excursions we did through the ship were very good. The weather could have cooperated better. Our room steward was excellent and we enjoyed the itinerary. The few negative comments almost all revolve around the service for suite passengers. On other cruise lines, the suite passengers are afforded some perks, and rightfully so, given the cost of the suite. For instance Holland America had a concierge assigned to just the suite passengers. Princess did not, and because of that, perks like dinner reservations, priority at the customer service counter. This did not happen. Also, our room was in the far aft corner of the ship and the wifi apparently does not reach that area consistently, so the cost of getting wifi was as waste of money. Overall, the trip was good. But there is room for improvement.

I would recommend the cruise based on the Itinerary and the childcare services. If you are a "foodie", I would not recommend this cruise as I thought the food was terrible. I'm also disappointed in Princess with there lack of follow through with regards to changes in policies for minor kids. We booked in January of 2019 and sometime shortly thereafter new guidelines were put into place where minors now had to have a passport to travel to Panama. This was not relayed to us or our travel agent which put us into having to expedite getting passports for them which caused a huge headache and was quite costly.

The food was great, as well as the entertainment. What I didn't like was there was no happy hour special on drinks and you had to pay 18% graduities on the drinks, which it wasn't like that two years ago the last time I went. When you pay $14.50 a day for graduities it felt like you were being double dipped when they charge you the 18%. The good thing is that I was able adjusted the gradtuities accordingly.
