Older Ship smells of sewer

By: Annette

Reviewed on: 10 Dec 2025

We would not recommend the Coral Princess due to the following: This ship smells of sewer. Our toilet backed up into our room and flooded our bathroom We had a mini suite with a tub. There are no handrails to help you get in and out of the tub and the tub is deep. I had a double knee replacement so handrails would have made me feel less likely to fall. The shower curtains have got to go The shower needs shampoo and conditioner not a shampoo with conditioner added its not nice The pools onboard are way too deep. I couldn't touch the bottom. There is no wading area. We mainly just stood on the steps if the lotus pool The entertainment's is lacking. I never seen the Captain in my whole 11 days onboard he never interacted with the guests The cruise director was not very good (i cant even remember his name) Our room steward Allan was amazing (b206) the buffet options were good and balcony dinner was perfect. We enjoyed the pizza, burgers, Crown Grill, Alfredos and Salty Dog.

I can book a cruise or a country tour in less than 5 minutes. That's because Ms. Amy Daniels is my agent. She is reliable, efficient, knowledgeable, expedient, and knows her trade better than any other travel agent I ever dealt with. She not only knows my preferences, but those of my travel companions as well. Over the years, she has booked 13 Princess cruises and a guided tour of Ireland; all were most enjoyable because all occurredwithout incident. Eight of the cruise involved one or more pairs of travel companions - all of our schedules were coordinated. She not only well represents Princess Cruise lines, but also is the "in-house" expert on anything Disney. Recently, because of a medical problem, it was necessary to cancel a cruise the departure of which was rapidly approaching. It was a new experience for me, but from the way the problem was handle, Amy was ready for it - well done. She is second to none!

The Coral Princess was extremely well managed; from the check-in to the check-out. The staff was very attentive. The various venues were all beautifully appointed. Our balcony stateroom was exactly the right size and the very comfortable. The timing of their activities were well planned and executed with Swiss Timing accuracy. The shows were very entertaining and maintained a high degree of propriety. We particularly enjoyed a phenomenal entertainer named Duncan Tuck. I want to give a "shout out" to the Casino staff; particularly Maggie, Dimi (nickname) and Jacobus. They went above and beyond to satisfy their clients. I have taken Princess cruises before and because of our experiences, we are very likely to seek Princess for our cruising in the future.

We were not happy with the Coral Princess, other than the suite was wonderful. The food was average and the Horizon Restaurant was messy, loud and reminded me of high school lunch room. Main dining room was very nice and the servers were excellent. The gormet restaurants, with a cover charge, were not as good as the main dining room. The excursions were average, yet expensive. But the most annoying was the free room service breakfast - anything - any amount you would like - yet $2.50 charge for a bottle of water. All enclusive travel is the way to go for us. This nickle and diming got to be laughable.

Went to thermal spa and it was not monitored-twice the beds were not working (electrical problem)Took days before manager answered my letter and calls from agents at front desk. Fell in spa because of pools of water on floor. Tours pretty bad-inexperienced guides, some not speaking English well. Cancelled two of them and hired a car- had a better time-and it was air conditioned. Not a luxurious ship. Had a good time in spite of all my compaints. Because of the lack of entertainment I watch three football games. Didn't have to spend that money to watch football. Unbelievable trip of a lifetime

We just returned from our trip to the Panama Canal aboard The Coral Princessl The entire trip exceeded all of our expectations! The ship was wonderful! Terrific food, wonderful shows and entertainment, lots of activities on our "at sea" days and plenty of sun and relaxation. Our cabin was tight but had plenty of storage. The cabin staff was awesome! The Provence Dining and Horizon Court were always out of this world and the smaller venues provided burgers, pizza and ice cream to our hearts content! One of the best activities on our Panama cruise was the lectures by Bill Fall. His information on the Canal Zone as well as all of our ports of call was tremendously valuable and interesting. He was an awesome speaker and made me appreciate the sites to the maximum! The speed of debarkation back in Fort Lauderdale was amazing. What tremendous organization! It was definitely a trip of a lifetime and The Coral Princess was perfect!

Loved our Princess Connoisseur Cruise tour to Alaska

By: TAW

Reviewed on: 10 Sep 2015

We were glad we picked the Connoisseur tour as almost all the meals were included and our tour guide was great. We only had 26 people in our tour group (they can be as large as 50) so we had room to spread out on our bus rides and also got to know the people better as the group was small. The Fairbanks lodge was more like a hotel but the lodges in McKinley, Denali and KENAI were wonderful. We liked the KENAI lodge the best and were glad we had two nights there. All of the included tours on the land tour were well done. We did an optional rafting tour in KENAI which we liked. The train ride from the Denali lodge to McKinley was beautiful. At Denali, we were pleased with the Tundra Wilderness tour and saw a ton of animals. However, that was one day on the land when the weather was awful (wet and cold). We liked the cruise as well but the weather was not great. We were still able to take all our excursions. I'm not sure that end of August is a good time to go.

Coral Princess is a beautiful ship, but compared with other ships we have been on, is quite compact. Our stateroom was much smaller than the balcony staterooms which we had on ships on other lines (Celebrity, Holland America and Costa). The bathroom was especially small, and was the but of jokes from some of the entertainers on the ship. The food was acceptable but not as good as the food on the other lines on which we have cruised. The staff were great to deal with, and did a good job of making life enjoyable for us. Kudos to our room steward for a perfect job. I particularly appreciated the configuration of the Coral Princess with the Horizon Court being forward with wonderful viewing from the bow. A real plus for the Panama transit.

For the most part it was enjoyable. It never has been my favorite but it had the destinations I was interested in. The food was good the staff pleasant. One day I asked for a glass of water during Happy Hour as I didn't want a drink that day. They brought me 2 small glasses of water with ice and charged me $3.00. The so called sales they had on board was just a bunch of junk (probably all 2nds). The Internet was a joke priced so high. Most ships I have been on free internet in their Internet cafe or much more reasonable prices. One night in the dining room we ordered 2 glasses of wine, they brought me the wrong wine, so asked for our card again and then brought me the correct wine. Couldn't figure why he needed our card again as we had already paid for two glasses of wine. When I looked at our bill the next day we were charged for 5 glasses of wine. I went to passenger services and the assured me they would correct it. They didn't . They posted $124. Charge on disembarkment day ?.??

We spent 15 days on the Coral Princess on the Panama Canal Ocean to Ocean cruise. It was a nice ship for the occasion; since it was mostly older passengers, the lack of kid-friendly (or even kids!) activities was hardly noticed. We especially enjoyed using the deck 7 walking deck. It's been a long time since we could walk from end to end on the wooden deck, and a ton of people took advantage of that. Too bad newer ships gave up on that. The Coral was our first ship, back in 2003, to Alaska, and it felt like coming home. The ship needed some repairs; a tender boat had a loose handrail and in a violent storm, deck 14 was roped off because 'the windows were loose'. That was a little unnerving! But it was exciting, and the Coral Princess weathered the storm and 10' waves well. Entertainment was good, free wifi was an unexpected bonus, and the ship was updated nicely. We'd go on the Coral Princess again unless we were taking grandchildren. Definitely not a ship for children.

It has plenty of venues for entertainment, and it has a wonderful decor. The promenade deck is wide and circles the ship on one level so that it is great for walking The entertainment on board is first class. The production shows are original, and the talent is great. This cruise featured a soprano that was marvelous. The food in the dining room was a gourmet treat each and every night. The service was top notch. The enrichment program during the day was educational and fun. On this cruise, there was a Panama Canal expert who brought the building and operation of the canal to life. Food was good. Everything was tidy and clean. 80% of crew was very friendly and helpful. The other 20% average. Evening entertainment was good. One frustration was the overly profuse number of paper notifications that we were inundated with. Many of them were redundant and some of them contradictory. Here is the best example: one leaflet told us to have out bags outside our door by midnight in a couple of days when we were to disembark. The next day we got a contradictory leaflet that said have the bags out by 10 pm. A day later we got a notice that said put most of your bags out by 6:30 pm and the rest after dinner. Make up you mind please!

I like using the credit card on ship and being able to track my spending! The buffet food was very good and was a great option if you are not up to formal dining. Loved the included excursion in Fairbanks on the riverboat. It really sets the tone for the whole trip and the history of the area. We have sailed on the Coral Princess in the past. It is an older ship that has been subjected to some recent upgrades. We had a good time on the ship but we found the entertainment and food below the standard. Although Sabatini came highly rated, we found the food to be mediocre. The 2 shows were not that exciting for us and some of the game shows hosted by the staff were a bit lame. We dealt with some exceptional staff (Sharmaine and Sanpreet at the Patisserie Bar) and Princess provided some very good speakers on Alaska's wildlife and climate change (Shelley Gill). Sailing into Glacier Bay and College Fjord was handled very well by Princess. We had issues with the internet on the last day but the IT manager was very helpful. Getting on and off the ship was handled expertly, however, the registration process in Vancouver as not as good what we have experienced in the past. Being Platinum members had no advantages. The harmonica class was a nice touch.

After cruising with many shipping lines over recent years, we are very comfortable with what Princess Cruises offer and are both Elite members. I became unwell on the second day on-board and we both had to isolate and also disembark early. However, although I saw a different side of things with this unwell situation, my care was good and we do understand how hard it must be for this industry to get back on it's feet. On the negative, the Medallion App caused me a great deal of frustration with problems, to the point of us wondering if it was worth cancelling the cruise altogether, until Princess Cruises got all the issues sorted out. The new normal, although we have all the vaccinations required, is not anywhere near what normal used to be. Mask wearing on board, when not required on shore, is uncomfortable to us. However, we do look forward to cruising again.

We also weren’t made aware how many people had Covid on the ship nor our hallway. We started talking to other guests and found out. They didn’t send out a notice until they had already taken away all bar seats and other things. The pools were really rough and couldn’t stay in long. Waves in the pool were so large it knocked loose some tiles in one pool and had to close it down for the remainder of the trip. In order to get in the other pool, one would need to know how to swim because of the waves. There were waves from the rough waters from the ocean. Overall it was a great vacation. I really enjoyed seeing New Zealand. It was my first time there.

We got the balcony which we used at times but in particular for the cruise into the fiords and Milford Sound. The night entertainment was amazing. The musicians in the Princess Band were very talented. The smaller bands and musicians played wonderful music throughout the day and night. The day to day staff (bar, room, dining) were a delight and looked after us. There was a great variety of food, fresh and presented well. I was happy that they offered line dance, pilates and zumba on sea days. I would suggest more entertainment should be offered on the pool deck. Movies on big screen on pool deck were the same ones offered in the room. Asked to wear masks indoors and other close contact, not a problem as it was for our own safety.

They said I would be reimbursed back to my credit card or give me ship credit. Unfortunately when we got home from our trip a representative for Princess called and declined reimbursement because of company policy. We had two different transfers to the airport and couldn’t use them both. We didn’t cancel we just physically couldn’t use both of them. With all the great memories and good times we had on Princess Cruise Line we now have a bad taste in our mouths over a policy that makes us pay twice to get to the airport to return home after a memorable time. As first time ocean cruisers, my husband and I travelled from LA to Florida through the Panama Canal on the Coral Princess and had a wonderful time! The ship is smaller (1990 passengers) and older than many others, however recently refurbished with lovely decor throughout and easy to get around. There were plenty of options for casual & fine dining, lounges & bars with live music, a theatre show each night, and lots of entertainment with educational talks, game shows, quizs etc. And of course the swimming pools! All the staff were very friendly and helpful and everything seemed well organized. I recommend getting the 'Princess Plus' package as good value for drinks and great wi-fi. There were many on-shore excursions offered at each port (at an additional cost but worth it to explore the local culture). We especially enjoyed the day excursion on a small boat through the Panama Canal as it gave an 'up close & personal' view and commentary of the locks system.

Subpar experience

We belief this cruise was subpar. For example, at a table for 2 breakfast, we were served individually i.e.: my wife was served her meal, waited for me but then ate hers at a leisurely pace, and when completed I was just receiving my breakfast meal. No excuse for this. Another example is from our land cruise portion. We disembarked onto the Princess train for a long 10 1/2 hour train ride to Denali Lodge. On arrival at the Lodge we were informed of a power failure in the region. We had to use porta-potties as toilets were not functioning without electricity. The dinner we were expecting was also not forthcoming as the Lodge was attempting to outside grill the meal. After 2 hrs all we were able to consume was salad. We were told we were to use our dinner voucher for lunch the next day (the pizza and sandwich we ended up eating for lunch was nowhere near the dinner cost). Next night's dinner had us wait 1.5 hours for an inedible meal. Mgr offered to comp desert on prepaid meal.

The Coral Princess was a clean and beautiful ship. With the Princess app we always knew what was going on and tried to take full advantage of everything we could. The shows were phenomenal, the naturalist on board (Michelle) was full of information and excitement and the food was very good. Our steward was very attentive, as well as several officers whom we met. Everyone we met made us feel special.

The coral princess was an amazing ship with a very thorough crew. Made sure our daily amenities stayed fresh. Our room stayed clean are advice was always delivered thoughtfully and remembering what we had done previously so it wasn’t just a number we were just getting questions answered with people, concerned and knowledgeable about who we were what we were where we were and where we wanted to go It’s pretty amazing

The coral is a nice smaller size shop with wonderful deck spaces and viewing areas. It’s a nice break from the mega ships.

Great first cruise experience with one caveat

By: L Kauffman

Coral Princess was an excellent first cruise for my wife and I. It was a nice sized ship and had great amenities. Our cruise was a 7 day Alaska cruise from Vancouver and 3 day land excursion to Denali. Service on the ship was great, both servers and room steward. Food was great. Princess provided excellent information for all transition points along the way. We knew how to tag our bags, where to place them and where to pick them up. Princess EZAir call center was not very helpful in resolving our flight issues as we traveled. Long wait times (at one point it was 1 hour), dropped calls (after taking my number so they could call back if the call got disconnected) and some inaccurate information. It felt a bit like the representatives wanted to get the call over with as soon as possible. Overall, it was an excellent first cruise experience.

Impeccable service. A mix of old world charm with modern amenities. The shore excursions were so so but the weather is out of our control. Loved the Naturalist talks. The ship was clean and our journey by was smooth.

Great older ship

We like the smaller ships. We don't travel with children and don't need water slides, bumper cars, etc. The crew on the Coral was wonderful. Our waiters were a little older and the service was amazing. You could tell it was his career, not just a job. The same with our cabin steward. So professional and helpful. He was very "visible" and did an excellent job. Entertainment was very good - 3 production shows in 11 nights. We would look forward to sailing on the Coral again.

For short stays

Recommend this ship for shorter cruises. For an extended period the variety in venues and the lineups would be discouraging. The suite we had was in need of refresh with older bathroom fixtures, tired sitting area furnishings and well worn linens. Suite was spacious with good storage and comfortable bed. The entertainment options are varied and lots of choices to suit all tastes, but often crowded or lined up to access. Meals were satisfactory and wait staff efficient. Excellent musicians and very friendly staff were the positive features of this ship experience. For price point it was a good trip.
