excellent cruise, enjoyed all the ports of call. Service on board was very good, we had a nice big mini suite, unfortunately could not really get comfortable on the couch as it had a slope and one kept sliding off, cabin steward had a look at it but was not able to improve it. Our cabin must have been near the sewers as when in port the smell was awful and lingered long after we left port. All in I enjoyed the cruise.

This was our sixth cruise with Princess in a mini suite on an Emerald class ship. As always we had a great time. This particular cruise was a repeat for New England Canada and the weather was much better time. The ports were interesting and our excursions were generally outstanding. Our cabin attendant did an excellent job. Tonko P? at Passenger Services receives high marks for his efforts for us. The heated pools allowed me to swim on a regular basis. Looking forward to next time!

Princess cutting back

By: Paul

Reviewed on: 12 Oct 2013

The cruise experience on Princess is becoming more of a hustle of bait and switch. Example, a cruise once meant all inclusive food. Now it seems they have downgraded the dining room experience in order to promote specialty restaurants for extra buck. We opted for the Café Carib most of the time due to the weak menu and slow service in the dining room. This was not our experience on our many cruises on Princess and other ships.

The most impressive part of the cruise was the Captain. He is the most informative Captain we have ever had. We always knew where we were and when we'd get to a port. The weather was too bad for us to venture into the Gothenburg port, but the Captain explained thoroughly why it was to dangerous to attempt. From our cabin steward to our waiters and bar staff, the ship's crew was fantastic. We especially enjoyed participating in the ship's pop choir. It was a great time.

We had an overall good experience. A few small issues popped up and Princess handled them quickly and to our satisfaction. We had one issue with scheduling disembarcation that was handled but should have never happened as I had gone to the purser's desk to specifically coordinate and had been assured that this would not be problem. I turned in the requests for 7 passengers in 3 cabins and they were stapled at the purser's desk and they were to be hand carried to the administration office to be processed. Instead of all 7 passengers receiving 1 disembarcation time as guaranteed, we received 3 different times and that included my 13 month old grandaughter leaving the ship by herself 1 hour and 20 minutes before any of our party. I found this very frustrating after spending 15 miinutes at the purser's desk to make sure that this would not be a problem and having them make a special phone call to assure me that they could handle it.

Something was off

By: bobnk

Reviewed on: 27 Mar 2015

We've cruised 7 times with Princess and I have to say, something was off this trip. We've always enjoyed Princess, they're our cruise line of choice but this trip was different. With the exception of the Crown Grill, food and drink service were very slow both in the dining room and poolside. It was not uncommon to wait 30 minutes for your order to be served both drinks and food. Staff seemed to be either overwhelmed or not very concerned. The food wasn't up to standards either. Talking to several 1st time Princess cruisers, we weren't alone in our thoughts that the quality of food was lacking. Dining in the Crown Grill was exceptional, so good in fact we went back a 2nd night. We also had difficulty getting hot water in our room, taking up to 15 minutes for the water to warm up, regardless of the time day or night.

Went on an Oct cruise, Eastern Caribbean on the Emerald Princess. Overall I think the ship and staff were good. Food was good, we were disappointed with wine selection, many nights what we selected was not available, should take off the list. Our waiter would actually bring a list of what they knew they did have to help us with our selection. Cruise director staff was ok, our group did not feel they were as good as others we had experience with on other cruises. An example is the disco night , it seemed lacking, why not show the videos from all the songs they played, it seemed like the staff was not really there, just the DJ playing records and on the giant TV a picture of the cruise ship. More could have been done to enliven this event. The spa was good, had a very good bamboo massage. Gym was good, but needs some updating and repairs done. Yoga mats were old and slippery, not good when on ship. The fitness staff did a god job with classes. Excursions were fun, nice variety.

After several cruises on two other similarly-sized ocean liners, our travel advisor recommended the Emerald Princess. Bless her for doing so! A stunning ship, much of it absolutley brand new, all of it immaculate and polished. Our mini-suite was well designed, roomy and perfectly appointed. The crew/staff ratio was high and we enjoyed getting to know several of our hosts, particularly in "Vines," the wine bar. We enjoyed both the specialty restaurants and the main dining room. We took the excellent and fascinating "Ultimate Ship Tour" since my husband is a retired Navy officer, and enjoyed "The Chef's Table" which was great fun and, of course, delicious. We found many areas where we could quietly enjoy the ocean, read and relax, away from other people. But at no time did we feel like there were crowds. We look forward to more cruises, particularly on the Emerald. I don't know how Princess could have made our ten-day Eastern Caribbean trip any better.

Not impressed with the Cruise

My traveling partner and I have traveled on multiple cruises and cruise lines. As this was our first trip on a Princess ship, we anticipated excellent service, entertainment and FOOD. Sadly, the food was possible the most bland, unexciting, tasteless food we have ever experienced. The only really good meal we had, we had to pay for at the steak house. The "stage show" entertainment was mediocre with only one singer (a good black female) with a decent voice. SErvice was a bit slow initially at the second dining time for those of us who wanted to go to the "shows." There was a good pianist in the Crooner bar and another band playing "dance" music was good. We befriended many previous Princess cruisers (some who had cruised 10+ times) who were dissatisfied and asked us to not judge Princess by this cruise.

Emerald Princess Cruise to Alaska

Reviewed on: 07 Jul 2017

First let me say that our adviser, Christine Serio, did not recommend this ship. Family members had selected it for a birthday celebration so there was no flexibility in which ship or line we were going to use. Unfortunately, the underlying culture of the ship's crew was that they weren't going to extend themselves at all, and the food, at best, was mediocre. We also felt the Princess cruise line had too many extra fees over and above their suggested tipping. Two examples: a $12 cover charge to listen to music in one of its pub and a beverage package for coffee.

The organization and amenities aboard the ship were what I expected. The food and dining options were acceptable. The staff was always courteous and helpful. It was nice not having to pack and unpack. However, I feel that large cruise ships are not my favorite form of travel....too many people, too confusing getting around on the ship, too much eating, too much sailing, etc. I was also hoping to play bridge on board, but no one else seemed to be interested. I prefer river cruises or land tours. So, I would still recommend Princess cruises. But just not for me.

It is a fine design but the last four ships have an extra deck of rooms that the first five ships do not. Normally not a problem, but with 712 children in other rooms that makes for a reduced personal space ratio. Other than that on a five day cruise you get what you pay for. Next cruise is 10 days on the Regal Princess, should be much better.

I loved Princess Cruise Line for cruising to Alaska. They have been cruising to Alaska the longest and have so many Alaska-specific activities on board. That's what appealed to us and what made us choose Princess. They have a naturalist on board all week who does presentations and points out things like whale sightings. They bring on special speakers like a captain from Deadliest Catch and an Iditarod winner. We learned so much about Alaska from these speakers. They also bring on husky puppies for puppy playtime. There are Alaska themed crafts and kids' activities as well. As far as the ship itself - it was clean, well maintained, and generally lovely. My kids enjoyed the kids' club and teen club. The food was good, not great. I don't have any other cruise ships to compare to, but I would definitely recommend Princess for Alaska specifically. There were not so many activities that my husband and I wanted to participate in however. We try to maintain a healthy lifestyle so we intentionally only took the stairs, tried to stay away from the food court on Deck 16, etc. Other people have a different perception of what their vacation looks like and that is fine. We just found that during the days at sea we were not so engaged. We loved the excursions that we chose for each port of call. The endless "sales" going on daily were a bit annoying by the end of the voyage. The food was not the greatest ever experienced. There was a lot of offerings, just not so tasty!

Room was nice, however the bathroom was very small esp the shower. We arrived to our room and the bathroom floor was wet. We notified the stateroom attendant. It took 3 days to get it fixed. When the plumber fixed the shower, he set the water temp at scalding. That took 2 days to fix. Dining was great. Sheila did a 5Km event for Breast Cancer on a sea day.

WE stood outside in the rain waiting to get aboard with no covering or umbrellas. The first day was chaotic because everyone was angry at how they handled boarding. The food is so-so; the staff is terrific; the captain and crew wonderful' the bathrooms were always clogged and my toilet overflowed into the room; the places for passengers to read are few and the deck chairs hard and uncomfortable; the shows were not as good as unusual; the ship appeared uncared for and often dirty in areas; it is in dry dock but needs to be totally redone; many passengers are annoyed because everything has a price and having to pay for bottled water is silly-just add $50 to the price of the room.

We had wonderful food, great Movies Under the Stars (current, not oldies) and good music to listen to in the Piazza. Our room steward was very attentive to our needs, and interacted with us on a more personal level. The only drawback I found was that everything repeated itself after the first week-menu's, music, movies, evening entertainment.

We were on a 2 week cruise on the Emerald. We were very happy with staff and the bed was super comfortable. However the Princess Emerald repeated their menus from 1 week to the next in the dining room and their buffet was underwhelming. The shows were only 30 minutes in length and the other on-board entertainment repeated the second week.

Emerald Princess - Aug-Sept 2019 cruise

I enjoyed my time aboard the ship. The activities and service were enjoyable. The shows and entertainment were great, as were the activities performed in the Atrium. Being a "senior citizen", I missed having any venues to do conventional ballroom dancing. It was almost all music to jump to. There were a few instances of ballrom numbers that were performed as part of the "reaffirmation of vows" event, but that did not last too long. One other thing --- going from one area of the ship to another, there is a great disparity in the temperature settings. In the public places (corridors, atrium, aisles) the temp was at a comfortable setting. In the party and meeting rooms, the casino, the disco dancing areas and such, were VERY cold. So much so that I became ill dealing with these disparities in temperature.

Sad. We went on the Holiday cruise. From the start it was not what we expected. Not many decorations on the ship. Not much celebrating. Cruise directors were young and silly. Would prefer an adult that related to our age group. Many things went wrong. Worst was our toilet did not work properly for the first week. We had a plummer in our room everyday for about 6 days. It was very noisy with a terrible sucking sound so we tried to use the bathrooms around the ship instead of our own. Not the way it should be.

Emerald Princess: A Grand Class Ship

We had a wonderful 28 day cruise on the Emerald Princess to Hawaii and the South Pacific. Everything about this cruise was terrific. Room: We stayed in a balcony cabin with an extra large balcony. The large balconies on the Caribe Deck provide for extra space, rain cover, and plenty of sun shine. Food: The food in the main dining room was terrific. The variety was excellent, and the gourmet preparation was outstanding. Entertainment: Princess, as usual, provided a wide variety of entertainment for everyone's needs. Each day there was something different to do. The evenings were filled with so many venues that it was difficult to make choices. There was music that ranged from rock-and-roll, to country, to pop, to classical violin music. The Princess theatre production shows were top notch. Shore Excursions: We took several excursions. Princess arranged quality excursions that were both educational and fun. We learned a great deal about Polynesian culture.
