While this ship has a great PIAZZA and looks impresive, but the room it took up has reduced the size of the balconies especially deck 10. When you look over our balcony all I see is life boats. Also there are no stairs midships and the elevators are slow or full, so no chance to take the stairs up or down. The other missing thing we enjoyed was the Promanade around the ship that you walked or ran. To do so on this ship was to go to the exposed top deck.

Ara did an excellent job planning the cruise for us since it was our first cruise and we departed from Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  We were pleased with all aspects of the trip except for the return after we got ashore.  There appeared to be some confusion by the Sheraton Hotel on transporting us from Port Everglades to the hotel as we had to wait about two hours.  Then the room they put us in was unsatisfactory and we had to request another room.

Ship is too big

By: Ruthie

Reviewed on: 27 Feb 2014

My husband and I recently cruised on the beautiful Royal Princess. It is a magnificent ship but poorly designed. While the Piazza is spacious and impressive, I would rather see the space added to the staterooms and balconies. The Dining Rooms had wait time issues. It was not uncommon to wait in line 40 minutes for dinner. The food all over the ship was average, even in Sabbatini's.A crew member stole my husband's I-pad as he made a salad in the Horizon Court. He set it down on the counter and next thing he knew, it was gone. It is confirmed that an employee stole it when he tried to use it near the docks in Fort Lauderdale on a Sunday 3 weeks later. Our mini-suite was fine except for bad mattress and poor TV movie technology. The balcony was hardly big enough to enjoy a morning cup of coffee. Room Service was prompt when called and on time for early coffee. We look forward to another cruise but not on a ship with 4,000 passengers.

Though I prefer a smaller ship, the Royal is a beautiful vessel. The food was good, though some service in the buffet (mainly coffee/tea) was not as good as usual. Dinner service in the dining room was inconistent. We had a few stormy nights with little movement of the ship. (Some of us like a little rocking, but it was not to be.) This is our second trip aboard the Royal Princess. We enjoyed the sea days on this trip, because of some of the great lectures and activities. They need to find a quicker method of getting returning passengers to the ship after a day ashore. When leaving the ship there are two security folks to check you off the ship at each gangway, but returning there is only one to check you in. We did miss one port on this cruise due to weather, but that is not unexpected when crossing the North Atlantic in September.

Very pleased with the staff and up to date information on the cruise as many people on our ship had a virus. Stayed away from the buffet otherwise the food was great. Couple of things that need improvement were people reserving deck chairs which was supposed to be not allowed, disembarkation was a nightmare, not very organized and the spa was very expensive and should be more reasonably priced (ie. massage cost $195 for 75 min). Best value was the coffee card for $29 as you get 15 specialty coffees or specialty gelato ice cream sundaes plus free regular coffee, hot chocolate and tea unlimited.

We were somewhat cautious about booking a cruise on such a large ship. Needless worry because there never was a major problem. Dinner reservations were no problem and moving from deck to deck was easy to either use the stairs or the many elevators. The entertainment was great and our min-suite was in the bow of the ship (L106) which had a spacious balcony and spectacular view. At the suggestion of our travel agent we selected the suite category and let Princess assign the cabin. A good move. Thank you Ellen and Princess. Embarking and disembarking were both efficient and easy. We are ready to sail again.

Excursions were generally good with knowledgeable guides. Aruba was a delight. Grenada was a disappointment. One other comment was the lack traditional port briefings focusing on local culture, history and points of interest. Focus on this cruise was on shopping, which became redundant after a couple of ports. Would have preferred the traditional briefings. Overall a good cruise!

Cabin was great...that was this best part of the trip. Toilets/heads did not flush well. Food mediocre at best. Hamburgers were cardboard with un melted cheese on top. Dining room service was good. Food...chicken and pork dishes were over cooked and dry. Sauces covered the mess. .Beef had a gamey taste. Asked for end cut. It was old, tired, dry and sent back. Buffets/Horizon were jammed with people not using tongs to grab food. Awful manners. Poor hygiene with sneezing and coughing without concern for their surroundings. Elevators full of fat people and not air conditioned. Probably our last Princess cruise, The Princess rewards system is based on the number of voyages one takes. A person paying for an inside cabin receives the same points and one paying for a suite. Unfair. Look at what the airlines are doing. Going from a flight/distance system to a fare paid system First class gets its fair reward versus the economy ticket. About time.

This was our first cruise on Royal Princess and it is the largest ship we've ever experienced. Physically, we found the ship both attractive and pleasant givem its size. We enjoyed excellent weather, but even so, the ship was remarkably smooth and stable while in motion. We had a mini-suite and were very pleased with it. Only facility on the ship that didn't impress us was the Vista Lounge, where we found the sightlines to be subpar. Generally speaking we found the food in the main dining rooms and on the LIdo Deck to be less interesting than on other Princess ships we've tried. However, the specialty restaurants were excellent. We also weren't thrilled with the service in dining rooms. It was uneven and frequently quite slow, so that dinner easily rant two hours. Sometimes that is OK, but there are times when you'd like to get out in 90 minutes and that seemed to be a challenge. Generally speaking, however, we'd give the Royal Princess another try.

Distinct difference from other Princess ships that came before her. Much larger and much, much, more luxurious. Most noticeable: Although there almost twice the number of passengers usually found on Princess ship, the Royal never seemed crowded. The atrium was very large, well appointed, and offered a dozen difference venues. Everything seemed brighter, including the passage ways that were not those long corridors running the length of the ship - they were well lit and incorporated wall art (pictures) to break up the monotony. All three restaurants were well appointed, lots of glass and crystal. The only detraction is that the Allegro is serviced by only the aft elevators. Most significant and most difficult to explain was the re-design of the Lido - Restaurant - Bistro - Bakery: and no lines. Multiple choices and multiple food stations - a real renaissance in self-serve cafeteria style dinning. The only negative worth mentioning is the size of the balconies: too small.

There were some non-smoking evenings. Slot chairs crammed in. If you wanted a slot by the wall it was necessary to ask people already using the first slot to get off of their chair and let you in and/or out. Room comfortable except for pillows. Room attendants always there for you keeping room tidied twice a day. Library and internet café combined into one small stuffy room with only two computers for 3500 passengers. Having sailed with multiple cruise lines, I know what to expect. I don't demand to be treated like royalty, but I do expect prompt, courteous, knowledgeable service. Princess provided none of these. Crew were indifferent at best. Cabin steward would not respond to a request for luggage tags. Cabin steward and concierge took over 1 1/2 hours to change linens soiled with feces (which appeared during turndown service). Never apologized. Princess took four days to resolve the situation (not to our satisfaction, but theirs). Wait staff was generally surly and at times insulting. Bar staff often ignored us (even when we stood/sat at bar with card in hand with 3 idle bartenders). When we scheduled an evening at the captain's table/special wine course table, we were misdirected by multiple crew as to waiting area and then verbally berated for being in the wrong place. Nothing was ever the crew's fault. I'll take my future cruise business to other lines.

The shows were good but one thing that bothered me was the overcrowded conditions in the Vista Lounge, especially the nights the comedians were performing. Another concern was the continuous problems with the public restrooms. There were many activities throughout the day and evening to keep everyone entertained. Terrible - we did a 10 day back to back. My spouse developed the flu on the first 10 day. I developed a sinus infection on the 2nd 10 day. We attribute this to guest who lie on their form relative to having any medical problems/illness upon boarding. Guests have spent a lot of money for their cruise and will not indicate any illnesses on your boarding form so as not to lose their money. We were in a Penthouse suite and our money was wasted for both trips. My spouse being sick on the 1st 10 day cruise and my being sick on the 2nd 10 days cruise. The worse part was that we intended to surprise friends on our second 10 day cruise (who we haven't seen for year) and we were stuck in our suite for the entire 2nd cruise. They were surprised finding out that we were aboard and very disappointed that we could not get together due to being locked in our stateroom. This by no way the fault of Eric Miller or Going Places Travel. We have decided that we will stop cruising for now due to what happen

The ship itself is beautiful and the staff was outstanding. I would sail on her again. That said, there were 2 major problems. 1. I ordered 2 flower arrangements & various treats with special notes to be delivered through the 15 day cruise. All flowers, treats, and notes got delivered on the first day. The front desk told me their computer showed that’s how I ordered them. Then, the flowers and treats continued to show up, minus the notes, on the days I requested them. 2. We had a shore excursion booked for the Azores that was supposed to leave at 9 am. 4 days before, we got a letter stating that the departure time had been changed to 11:30 am. When we arrived at the meeting point, we were told that the letter was a misprint, and should have gotten a 2nd letter stating that the departure time was actually 7:30, not 11:30. We never got that letter so we missed our tour and all we were told was ‘sorry, everyone else showed up and we’ll be happy to refund you’.

A beautiful ship challenged by 3500+ guests. 1. Food: Quality on a prev. trip convinced us to skip Specialty Dining. This trip food was fair, few highlights, little variety. 2. Staff: stateroom, dining room & bar staff all worthy of praise. Staff managing embarquation & disembarquation less so. Day 1: Yes, a gangway breakdown is critical. Lack of info & poor quality of P.A. system made this frustrating. Day 2: Tendering at Guernsey. 2+ hr wait for return tender in hot sun with no area to seek cover. Port staff said delay due to tides, hmm. Day 6: Port arrival delayed 3 hr but not departure? No info. Then ship staff confused, redirected us 3x to onboard waiting areas. Wasted our day, again. 3. Pricing: Group of 12, 1 couple, not last min, random $3k (40%) discount after paid! Summary: Amp up logistics. Re-do menu. Share info to reduce rumours & frustration. Cost: Unhappy paying $250/day more than friends we brought to trip. Next trip: small ship, likely a different line.

The Royal Princess is a very big and comfortable ship which we truly enjoyed. There is only one warning: don't get a room in the back of the boat as we did. The rear elevators only go down to the 7th floor which leaves you two floors above their main entertainment, dining, and embarkation deck on five. This means you have to wait for elevators twice or use the stairs. We did this a lot. Get a room at mid-ship if you can.

We liked the new Medallion Service, but did encounter a few issues with their APs. Our cabin , a deluxe veranda cabin was fine. It did appear their ship design jammed as many cabins on board at the expense public spaces. For example we felt the main theater was undersized for the number of passengers on board. Also, they had only one onboard travel agent, when they needed space and for at least three agents. It took 6 hrs. For me to get a chance to meet with one for a future cruise consultant. Passengers often weren’t able to attend entertainment in the Piazza, Princess Live, or Princess theater due to a lack of space. We may rethink our next cruise to a line that can better accommodate the size of passengers crowds (like celebrity or Holland America). But overall we liked the ship.

I would sort of recommend the Royal Princess as it is an elegant ship. The public rooms are all beautiful. The state rooms are very nice too. I did not care for the food in the dinning room and this was the second time I had been on that ship. I found the food in the alternate dinning rooms and small eating areas much better. The service was a bit cold as well. Only found a few of the crew that were friendly. I would go on the Royal again but not have high expectations.

Overall the trip was pleasant. The wait staff in the dining rooms were very efficient and took excellent care of us. We did not however see much of our cabin steward. Most of our requests went unheeded. The food was well prepared in the drinks were very delicious. The ship was clean and well tended.

Very fun cruise, 1st time using the Medallion and was very please about how to use the option. Internet was very fast. We participated in the Guiness Book of Records most Wedding Vow renewal on a cruise ship. For such a large undertaking, Princess did an amazing job of organizing. Very fun.

Incredible Family Gathering Venue

As parents/grandparents, we were wanting a special venue that would allow for us as a family to build on our close relationships and to have memories that will be part of our legacy with our children. The Royal Princess provided an ambience and hospitality of amenities that more than surpassed our expectations. None of our children or grandchildren had ever cruised before. From embarkation to disembarkation they were impressed and in awe with the level of organization, services, the decor, friendliness and approachability of staff, quality of food services, variety of activities and entertainment. They woke up each day with a new sense of adventure and excitement. They all expressed daily the gratitude they felt towards us for having provided them with this "amazing" time. As parents/ grandparents this was so deeply heartwarming. At the end of the cruise, each of our adult children with relentless support from their children, placed deposits on further cruises with Princess.
