very pleasant cruise

By: Al

Reviewed on: 23 Jun 2013

Not quite up to other Regent ship standards. Hard to say just why, since all the crew were pleasant, helpful and cheerful. Like getting bus tickets for tours - the pasengers had to wait until the bus was ready and then there was a stampede to get a ticket. Some of the senior crew officers seemed to be having public romantic get togethers and drinking quite a bit - we called it conduct unbecoming in the military.

Fantastic Baltic Sea Cruise

By: Linda

Reviewed on: 22 Aug 2013

Our recent Baltic Sea cruise was wonderful. The on-board service and amenities were great - courteous and helpful staff, great food with multiple options, and good entertainment. The tours were well organized with ample choices. All of the tour guides were well-versed in their subject matter though a couple were not as fluent in English as the vast majority of the guides. Regent booked our pre and post cruise stays which made the airport to hotel and hotel to ship transfers hassle free.

What can I say other than the cruise exceeded my high expectations. The staff was superior, the room lovely, the food delicious and the excursions well done. I cannot find one thing wrong and I'm not easily impressed! We also enjoyed the shows and the friendly attitude of the entire staff. There were 4 of us and we felt like we were the only ones on the ship---that's how special the crew made us feel. Would travel with Regent again.

Food was good but nothing special and no better than on other ships, included tours mostly disappointing, entertainment on board uninspired. All in all, a huge disappointment from what I was expecting to be a first class cruise. Did not live up to the hype about Regent. Suite on board was very nice, but other than that, very poor value for the cost.

Our recent cruise from Sydney, Australia, to New Zealand, was our third experience with Regent. Each experience has proven enjoyable, educational and thoughtfully planned. Regent's policy of all being inclusive in the fare, in addition to the service and attitude of the crew, sets it apart from the rest! The idea of small/medium sized ships is also appealing, as we would never consider sailing on a larger ship than Voyager.

The ship was beautiful and the service superb. The suite did show a little wear but had been repaired. Service was impeccable. Any help or question was always answered promptly and thoroughly. Every Regent person always met you with a smile and greeted you. They had a mid-cruise survey that was distributed and I saw some of my suggestions, which were not problems just suggestions, (I'm sure I was not the only one suggesting some things) implemented the very next day. My entire professional career has been spent in Quality and Regulatory Affairs so I tend to look at things always with the customer in mind. Quality's goal is not just to satisfy the customer but to delight the customer. Regent was a definite delight. The shows were wonderful although the lead female vocalist didn't have the audience engagement that the lead male vocalist did. She could use some work with embracing and expressing the content of the music she was singing. The "Krew Capers" show was awesome!

Our Virtuoso agent Jan Peterson is exceptional in her professionalism and expertise in assisting us with the many details of our travels overseas. The private driver arranged at the end of the formal cruise were most impressive, timely and helpful. Our stay at the Virtuoso Grand Hotel in Stockholm was awesome and an up grade to a beautiful room facing the Canal and the King and Queen's Palace was absolutely perfect!! Jan is now an essential part of our travel plans to new and exciting places. We could not ever hope for more! Our experience with Regent Seven Seas however had some major disappointments and we probably would not plan on cruising with them again. We did not even get any satisfaction on board when we tried to bring the deficiencies to the attention of appropriate personnel.

We have only cruised on three cruise lines, the first being Crystal, the second being Oceania and the most recent being Regent. In comparison with the others, the Voyager was a bit smaller and definitely less opulent, and yet the staff was friendly and accommodating. We missed a vibrant speaker as we had had on Crystal, and the choice of four different specialty dining choices as we had on Oceania, and yet felt the food was delicious on our Regent's cruise. Really enjoyed the all inclusive feature of Regents, and the wonderful choices of foods, wines and room service. Our stateroom included a walk-in closet, not seen on the other two ships, and a lovely deck on the stern of the boat. We did experience much vibration, which may be the result of being on the stern, and movement, which might result from being on the top deck. Other than that, we really enjoyed our cruise and our ports and would highly recommend Regents to our friends! The tours were well run and a great experience. Thanks

This was our first cruise on a Regent ship. Had a wonderful time. Excursions were 96 % very good. We realize that some of the areas visited have fewer resources as far as independent good tour guides. Food was great. Kitchen was most responsive when asked early in the trip to cut salt applied to the eggs and other items. I believe the ships system of letting folks come to the main dining area any time they choose is fabulous. It encouraged people to meet for a drink, relax and then go to dinner. We met many people, especially when allowed to sit at a table of four or six, etc. The hall "block" parties were ingenious, encouraged even more social connections. Staff always helpful and with winning smiles. Ray Solaire was exceptional, amazing energy! I think it is most important that the Regent company adds specially priced Business up grades for the long flights to meet up with the cruise. Thank you Excursion desk people. They were amazingly patient.

Since 2010, we've been all over the world on Regent Seven Seas Cruises (Voyager, Mariner, and Navigator), and we will continue to travel on Regent due to their incredible service, quality, relaxed luxury, and the fantastic crews on the ships and in the central office. Being "all-inclusive" works well for us - everything is included. Yes, the cruises seem to cost more when booking, but there is a reason. We don't want to travel half way around the world and be disappointed with any aspect of our trip. Regent has always delivered for us, and we are loyal Regent travelers. We missed another port, Picton, New Zealand and feel that we missed seeing most of New Zealand's South Island. The ship is recently refurbished and has been given a nice face lift. Unfortunately the changes to the cabins while nice cosmetically has resulted in less storage space. The entertainment was of generally good quality with some excellent lecturers and a few really good acts. The new production (dance/singing/orchestral) team from the new parent company is as good and in some cases better than the prior Jean Ann Ryan provided talent. The all inclusive pricing is a big selling point for me - no shocking bills at the end of a cruise. The cabin is large enough to be comfortable and is well appointed. The ports were representative of the area visited. The shore excursions are appropriate for the port. There are choices to allow for varied interests and physical abilities. While we really enjoyed our voyage, there were a few disappointments aboard. Some light bulbs were not working in our stateroom. The room was "worn" and the deck was completely mildewed. Overall, we enjoyed the food, but, even though we had a butler to help us, we were never able to get into any specialty restaurant (other than a very late reservation which we wouldn't have been able to stay up for). The shows were the best I have ever seen. The staff was very friendly, as were the dancers and singers. The tours we took were okay, with the sea "organ" being the highlight. And, finally, we had a butler who was very nice and gracious, but we didn't use his services very often.

Everybody was kind and very energetic. It was a great way to see the major cities along the Mediterranean. The only thing that I would change is that there really is no pool side service. That's not really a problem bc there isn't a lot of pool time. There were minimal kids which is good. I defiantly recommend getting reservations in the specialty dining rooms. Also I would get private tours if you really want to see a city. The ship did cancel a lot of our paid excursions. But all in all it was a great experience.

10 day Med cruise did not measure up to my standard of a "luxury" cruise experience. While ship was immaculate and butler & room stewards were exceptional, other services seemed lacking. Seemed as though the staff was stretched too thin to provide expedient service. Ports of call were good, shore excursions average. Shore excursion groups were too large (30-40+) making it impossible to hear guide unless you were at the front of the group. Regent should consider using VOX boxes like other cruise lines. Large group sizes meant we spent a lot of time waiting for everyone to finish with bathroom breaks. One port of call used tenders to disembark. Process could really use improvement. Use more tenders in a.m. when everyone is trying to get ashore for shore excursions. We were quite late leaving for tour and thereby not returning to ship until after lunch had been served. Need lunch accommodations for all shore excursions returning after 12:30-1pm. Overall not a good value for cost.

Not up to expectations

By: Well healed traveler

This ship was not nearly as nice, not even close to, as I expected. It certainly did not live up to expectations. 1 bag was not delivered with the rest. They were collected from our private car & not delivered together. I looked through guest services book for some details & there on the first time page was a list of items I'd be charged for if they turned up missing at end of cruise. WELCOME. Room staff & butler were outstanding. The daily canapés were lackluster & warm. There was no door closer on closer door so with the least movement of the ship it went flying open or closed. Lots of paint chipped off doors & frames Shore excursions were Subpar: too many guests per guide and no "Vox box" to ensure we could hear him/her. Several were too soft spoken to handle the 25-30 tourists. Our travelmate is still waiting on his béarnaise sauce that was to come with his first night dinner. We were served almost raw hamburgers at the pool buffet. Shows were not up to a quality I was expecting.

Wonderful trip. Itinerary is generally really good, but would bypass Albania for longer time in other ports or another stop. Not much too do there and even picking excursions was difficult. Sicily add on excursion to the Godfather Villa was well worth the additional cost. Clarification on airline number of bags/weight per bag would have been appreciated. The two bottles of liquor or wine you can request for your stateroom was not really widely publicized. I would really like to have had a minibar preference questionnaire to fill out before sailing as well. That being said, the bartenders and stewards/stewardesses did a great job on anything we requested. Room service was readily available at all times as well. I would like to have the on board lecturers lectures on DVD or as link to keep as well.

A great cruise with a few minor issues. This ship is beautiful, suites even the cheapest are extremely comfortable and quite spacious, flowers, fruit and champagne are in every suite on embarkation plus a stocked mini bar which can be customized. Suite was well looked after by a team of two stewards. Enjoyed our itinerary, shore excursions in most cases were very good. I had only one issue and that is the food. In my opinion, while presented beautifully, some dishes were served lukewarm. For me that is a problem which needs to be addressed by this cruise line. We had poor service in one of the two specialty restaurants and felt the food did not meet expectations. Staff were for the most part excellent, my comments to waiter about food were definitely passed on to mangement as I received a call from the executive chef. Entertainment on board was quite good, good singers and dancers in cast. There were also two onboard lecturers who were both excellent.

We were on the Hong Kong to Beijing cruise (Dec 17-29). So much of the cruise was wonderful, including the restaurants, the suite, the crew, Captain Green, the new china (WOW, was that nice. The problems included the following: (1) We signed up on this trip because it included Japan, South Korea, and China. All three of those were very important inducements to spend $30,000 on this cruise. In November (about a month before we sailed), we got notice from Regent that South Korea was eliminated from the itinerary, citing new Chinese regulations. I can understand that. What I cannot understand and what I thought was deceitful was when I looked into those Chinese regulations and discovered they were issued in March -- 7 or 8 months before we were notified. Regent waited until I had paid in my $30,000 and would incur major forfeitures if I canceled the trip. (2) It was very disappointing to arrive in Hong Kong and have to wait 1 1/2 hour for ground transportation to show up.

Have sailed w/Crystal 5 times in the interim. Many subtle differences between Crystal & Regent, both are excellent. Lots of positives for both. Only negative of Regent (since it's fresh on my mind) was service in the Compass Rose dining room...mostly speed and attentiveness, not friendliness. All else was great and certain items were better than Crystal. At the end of the day, itinerary and timing matter the most.

Was constantly bumping into people swimming at the reef- a disappointment. Semarang, Java I will never forget! We ordered a private car tour, it deluged the entire time , we could understand about 10% of what our personal guide was saying and had to walk through 6 inches of water to get to the gangway to get back on the ship!! Tourists needed to be told ahead of time that free time depended upon conditions and might not be available given wait times to enter sites (I.e., the Vatican, the Sistine Chapel, etc).
