Wonderful first cruise

We travelled the North Sea in (casual) luxury with 200 or so congenial fellow passengers. We selected the cruise because of the destinations, fjords and islands, but the highlight of the trip turned out to be the other guests (as well as the crew - talent night was awesome).

Low key luxury

Our circumnavigation of Iceland on the Star Legend provided us with beautiful scenery, seldom visited ports of call and the luxury of having a spacious stateroom, fine dining and friendly, professional service in a remote location. The officers and staff exhibited personal warmth and professional commitment to ensuring each guest felt valued and welcomed. The dining and housekeeping staff were attentive and charming. The dining areas were pleasant and impeccably clean. The menus were varied, very well prepared and plated for presentation. Because of the small size of the ship, less than 220 passengers, dining hours are abbreviated but the twenty four hour room service menu, though limited in selection, provided a convenient solution to missed table service. The weather in Iceland can be temperamental and, unfortunately, our scheduled excursion flights over volcanoes and waterfalls and a second to Grimsey island were both cancelled. All other excursions were interesting with guides.

Windstar Cruise

Cruise staff was all great as usual with the exception of the photographer. We requested a photo to be taken on our anniversary in the Candles Dining Room. She agreed to meet us there for the occasion. We were there, she was not. When we spoke to her about it she told us she was there, we were not. When we corrected her she admitted she had gone elsewhere. We agreed to take the photo another time but the next time she pretended to not see us and later had the head of guest services call and apologize. The entire experience was unprofessional and beneath what I expect from Windstar. This was our 9th cruise with Windstar and I wanted to let them know but never received their survey. Previously they gave them to you on the ship but now they email and I have never received anything. Possibly it was sent to your agency I don't know.

The suite was spacious and very comfortable. Food was above average in most cases the servers in the restaurants were attentive and pleasant. Overall, the crew always smiled and greeted each passenger and answered any questions we had. The evening presentations on the next day events and excursions was always informative and fun. This was our second trip on Windstar and we would love to do another!

Casual and relaxed. As former Seabourn guests, we were familiar with the yacht. Updates/upgrades were good, but not great. Platforms and mattresses do not allow for luggage to be stored. Balcony doors in dire need of replacement as difficult to open/close. Service of suite stewards is superb, as is most of all other experiences. Dining in AmphorA was less than desireable, yet Candles was a delight! Final Day of disembarkation was lack luster with less staff and poor service. Overall, good, but not great!

Our first cruise experience was full of pleasant experiences. Our stateroom was larger than expected with all amenities and kept clean and tidy by staff who were always helpful and upbeat. Food and service excellent and shipboard entertainment very good. Excursion options excellent although expensive. Small ship made making friends easy and cruise schedule of ports perfect. Only complaint would be liquor and wine packages that were too expensive and limited in scope.

This was our first time on one of Windstar's Star class vessels. We enjoyed the extra room in the stateroom compared to the sailing ships, and were pleased with the fact that the Windstar culture has translated so well into these newer vessels. This was the first time Windstar has done this cruise and they handled shore excursions and customs details extremely well, particularly since it was their first time through. As always, the crew are a wonderful bunch of folks and make every day a treat. Even though the ship was full, we had no issues with line ups, lack of space or resources.

We stayed in the owners suite. There was no wow feeling. Although spacious with 1 1/2 baths it felt old and not at all luxurious. The bathroom was terrible with a non functioning shower head and brown greasy water for 2 days. Quite discusting. The tours were awful for the most part with the exception Taipei- Essential Taipei tour guide Michael was exceptionally good along with the Buddha tour with Anna & Christie from the ship. Great Wall of China, our guide was very informative but lunch was a disaster. Must mention our servers Made, Edwardo, Ariel & Arta were truly wonderful and made a very favorable impact on our experience. The barbecue in Shanghai was really fantastic. Windstar Legend can b proud of this event. The food was so much better than any meal we had on the ship.

This was the first time that Star Legend was in Alaska. We knew there would be a few glitches in the overall trip. But, all was great. We missed the sails on the "sail away" parties. But I've been on the Legend in Ice land so knew about the flag vs. sails. I absolutely go on another trip. Windstar Cruises are my favorite. This cruise made my 35th week cruising on a Windstar Ship. We started with the Wind Song in Tahiti. Loved the Candles restaurant. Also did enjoy the sandwiches that are served in the Lounge every afternoon. The trips were well planned, except the weather didn't go along with our "River adventure" We were OK with the guide and still had a fun rainy day. NO COMPLAINTS . Thanks,

Windstar's Star Legend was truly a great adventure. We booked a Windstar 3 day land tour Osaka/Kyoto before boarding the ship in Osaka for 15 days around Japan. We did the 8 day crossing from Kushiro to Seward, Alaska and from Seward to Vancouver 14 day of kayaking, fishing and sightseeing. Good food, good company and even time to just read and relax during the crossing. The Expedition team led great nature excursions cruising Misty Fjords, calving glaciers, North American wildlife! As always the crew and staff treated like royalty!!

We waited such a long time for Windstar to make this journey through Indonesia and were not disappointed. It was a treat when some members of the crew were able to introduce their family who came onboard to visit. We have always appreciated the temperment of the Indonesian people. They are certainly a great asset to the Windstar company. The excursions were well thought out and were good value for the money. The guides were very enthusiastic and looked after us well. Since this was the first trip through Indonesia obviously there will be a few wrinkles to iron out, but not that many! Gonzolo was gave good information preparing us for the next days tours. Always ready to answer questions and offer advice and what a personality! Cabin service (Donny & Elise) could not be faulted. The meals and waitstaff did not disappoint either! The crew show as always was a real treat!

We found the service was incredible, from the housekeeping staff, to the restaurant personnel, to the administration. Everyone seemed very committed to ensuring that we all had a great time. The one thing that was a bit annoying was the WiFi . Aside from the fact that it was extremely expensive, we found it very difficult to manage.

As always the Star Legend is just the "right size" for cruising and has all the personal attention and touches one wishes when cruising on a small ship. The officers were exceptional on this trip and very informative -- Officer James Deering even held several informal discussions and coffee chats to share his wealth of knowledge about Japan and its culture. Superb!!! However, the renovation the ship will be undergoing is needed as it was looking a bit "tired" in places with windows needing repair and cabins freshen up!

We have completed 27 cruises on the WindStar Line, and are booked for two at this time. We’ve never been disappointed. Our last on the Star Legend, Alaska Expedition, was phenomenal! Whoever thought i would taste a price of iceberg?? The officers and crew are second to none. Service is outstanding. There are never queues, so to arrive at a port is seamless... I recommend WindStar Cruises to anyone who mentions the word, ‘Cruise’ to me, and no one has ever returned with less than race comments!

The crew was amazingly fun, sweet, and worked hard to make us feel pampered. We were upgraded to a suite, but the view was not good (we looked out onto the bottom of the life boats, and crew was working a lot right outside of our windows. Not sure if we had been more informed if we would have taken the upgrade. But we received a lot of perks for being in a suite and the rooms were spacious and so nice.

This is my second Windstar cruise in 6 months and I’m looking forward to going again. I’ve not been on the “sailing” Windstar ship but I loved both the Star Pride and Star Legend. The ships are quite elegant while at the same time casual and comfortable.-a wonderfully managerial size. The staff is very friendly. All staterooms are large with essentially a bedroom, living room, big picture window (no portholes). The bathrooms are well designed and the closets are surprisingly spacious. The food is terrific and available 24/7. The only negative is that they are not particularly tuned into their independent travelers. Need to be more proactive in this regard.
