Friendly service and perfect size

Everyone on the ship was very friendly and our room was large. They could have been more informative about the excursions and the cities that we were sailing past. I love that only 207 passengers were onboard--the perfect size. No sea sickness at all!!! The food was great. It was a great itinerary. I will definitely choose this cruise line again.

The small cruise ship appealed to us and that's exactly what Star Pride delivered. The crew couldn't have been more accommodating!! I was a bit disappointed in the age of the Star Pride. The marketing is a bit misleading stating the "new" Star Pride. What they mean is, it is newly added to their fleet. The ship was a bit old, but very clean.

We took an 8 day cruise on Windstar from Venice to Rome. It was our first cruise on a small ship (160 guests sailed). We liked the fact that our ship could get into small ports of call. The service was excellent, the food very good and we liked the casual feel of the cruise. We could dine whenever we liked - no reservations needed in the main dining room. We were on Star Pride which is a small yacht that joined the Windstar fleet recently. IT was a great cruise.

Cruising aboard M/V Star Pride was an utter delight. From the Captain down, the personnel who served my wife and myself were first rate - always available when wanted, most helpful in boarding and departing the ship, most diligent in the shore lunch, most amusing in the evening entertainment, thoroughly professional in keeping the ship neat and clean and cunning in tantalizing us with superb meals and snacks. Tiki, our suite steward was a stand out in friendliness and helpfulness. We shall happily sing the praises of your ships because of the outstanding service tendered to us. Thank you for the most enjoyable experience and long-lasting happy memories. William H. N. Hull

We enjoyed the itinerary very much. The trip through the Panama Canal was quite fascinating. The local commentator aboard gave a new perspective to the adventure. The wet landings was different for us, and found it was necessary as we were quite up close and personal with the Costa Rican shore line and the pressing jungle and mangrove forests. Having time with the President of Windstar Cruises and his corporate staff was exciting, as the plans for the future of this company is near and dear to us!

A smaller more intimate ship. Perhaps not quite the high end standards of say Crystal or Silversea but that was more than compensated by the informality and intimacy experienced. Friendly and efficient staff made for a very relaxed cruise and the on Marina at the back of the ship which permits swimming and other water sports is one that should be copied by other cruise lines

Second trip on Star Pride and just as much fun as the first. It was like old home week with same Captain and Dining room manager. The itinerary was really enjoyable every island is different. Cabins are large and comfortable and the food is sumptuous. Its a small ship so you have to entertain yourself after the tours and the meals. The "private events" have to be experienced to be believed. It is a pity that such a great on board cruise team is saddled with an Admin group that makes the booking process so unenjoyable. Use a travel agent and save yourself the hassle of dealing with them and just enjoy the cruises.

Star Pride--Loved every minute!

The ship itself is beautiful, well-appointed, comfortable, and spacious with all the desired amenities. But the crew and staff are what made this cruise so enjoyable. They always had a smile for everyone, greeting us by name and tending to every request immediately. The food was delicious! The excursions were well organized. Our entire experience can be described in superlatives only. We hope to sail on the Star Pride again--and soon!

The staff, food, excursions, transfers were wonderful; however, the ship needs to be refreshed. Our room had an old shower curtain, the chrome was worn off of the shower head, the paint around the Juliet balcony was pealing. The shower head is squeezed into the corner of this good sized bathtub/shower and it's so hard to shower comfortably. Even though it is advertised that you can sit anywhere at dinner, they always escorted us to a table and some people sat at the same table for the entire cruise.

After cruising with wind star to Greece and Rome and Croatia and Morocco, we thought we would try a January cruise to the south. The ships are very different. We were used to the sails and missed them. Most of the experience was the same, same great staff, and same great food. Our cruise included some entertainment, so that was a nice addition. Our ship encountered a good bit a turbulence and one in our group was sick on and off during the trip. We all had a great time and would do it again.

new owners not the same as the old owners

Reviewed on: 12 Jun 2018

I was on this boat when owned by Seaborn a few years ago. Under the Windstar banner, things just weren't the same. There is a building list of deferred maintenance items, staff levels have been reduced by about 15%. The staff works hard, no doubt but I think the maintenance people spend a lot of time just patching things on the fly and cannot obtain the proper resources to fix things. Food was good but not great. For the premium dollar, one expects the premium experience. Seaborn would have rated a 9/10, Windstar perhaps a 6.5/10.

The Star Pride cabins are huge! Yes, we missed the huge sails going up during the sail-a-ways.... (We've been on the Wind Star, Wind Spirit, and Wind Surf.) but at least they still played the music and raised a little Windstar flag. We did have an unfortunate issue in Buzzards Bay....

We were never in any immediate danger, just stalled in place. The ship's cruise director immediately contacted Windstar's HQS and he and the captain kept the passengers updated on the progress of repairs. In the meantime, there was a lively band playing dance music at the STAR BAR and all drinks were on Windstar until dinner was served! We were 13 hours late coming into NY Harbor but seeing the Statue Of Liberty and the city all lit up was just breathtaking. Windstar bused us to our hotel !

Loved the small ship. Food was fantastic. Somehow the captain was able to make the day that the winds were 60 MPH tolerable. Don't know if it was the point of sail or what but it was not as bad as it could have been. We were unable to stop at two ports of call but it was due to weather that affected the tenders. Good call by staff. Great people working on the ship from the waiters and chefs to housekeeping and crew. Steve did a great job on Port Call. Speaker Mr McGuire was really great and such a nice person. Girls at reception desk were so friendly and room service was very quick. Loved it!!!!!!! Susan

Small ship is the best way to see some different islands. The people on board learn your name so it is a very personal experience

We prefer small ship cruises and have sailed on the Pride before. Due to bad weather and a rough crossing over the Labrador Sea, we were unable to visit L'Anse Aux Meadows which could have been a highlight of the trip. The sail into Manhatten was marred by a ship malfunction thus throwing out our planning. However, the food was wonderful as were the staff. We would travel with the line again, but would like to be assured that the engineering planned was completed. That is the reason for our rating.

While the Star Pride is an older ship, we found her in very good condition. Note, she is due for a major overhaul in 2020 including the addition of a new section mid ship which increases the capacity by 50 suites with no decrease in suite size. Pictures of a sister ship undergoing the overhaul are dramatic and on the internet. Our room was large, 277 sq feet and comfortable. The crew works seamlessly. Our interactions were a pleasure. The food selections were many and varied. They were able to adjust the plates to satisfy my wife's specific dietary needs. The entertainment was delightful. The shore trips allowed us to enjoy the culture and scenery and were well chosen. All in all, a great small ship experience. Personalized service throughout. Nothing like the monster ships sailing elsewhere. Unpack once and settle in and be pampered.

With just 200 passengers, the Star Pride is intimate and able to visit ports the larger ships cannot. This is a big plus- unless it is the only ship in a large port as we were in Saint Maarten on a Sunday. Nothing was open because we were such a small ship! The staff is responsive and works hard to make the onboard experience special.
