Basseterre, Saint Kitts And Nevis

Description

Like no other island in the Caribbean, St. Kitts seems to embody a kind of lush tropical paradise usually associated with the South Pacific. An intoxicating blend of sunlight, sea, air and fantastically abundant vegetation, along with sunny skies, warm waters, and white sandy beaches make it one of the most seductive spots in the Caribbean. First spotted by Columbus in 1493 and populated with native tribes, it was not colonized until the British arrived in 1623. Development of the island has been of the highest quality but has fortunately remained in low quantity, keeping St.Kitts uncrowded, unspoiled, and ever so alluring.

Our day begins with a scenic drive through the town of Basseterre, then winding our way along the West Coast to beautiful Romney Manor, home of Caribelle Batik. This 350 year old estate, formally owned by ancestors of Thomas Jefferson, is where local artists transform island cotton into magnificent works of batik art. As we walk through the gardens filled with exotic plants and flowers, we’ll see an amazing African Saman tree covering half an acre of land, believed to be as old as the estate itself. Next, we will explore Brimstone Hill Fortress, 800 feet above sea level and one of the most dramatic spots in the Caribbean both historically and aesthetically. We will have the opportunity to take a full tour of the fortress. Climbing to the top of the main hill offers fantastic views of St. Eustatius and Sandy Point Town. After Brimstone, it’s off to Dieppe Bay, an old French town acclaimed for its large reef formations. Here, guests will be able to see where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Caribbean Sea. Then it will be time for our wonderful luncheon!

We’ll enjoy a delicious island feast of local specialties complimented by wine at Carambola Beach Club Restaurant located on the beach front on South Friar’s Bay.  A fusion of flavors from Asia, the Caribbean and Europe are presented by Carambola’s world renowned chef (formerly of the world-class Sandy Lane Resort in Barbados) in this stunning setting.

After lunch, we will return to the pier.
