About Me
Hi, I’m Carrie.
I spent over 20 years in the public relations industry working with major pharmaceutical companies. As part of that career, I planned countless corporate meetings and celebrity campaigns and, in doing so, focused on client experience and getting the details right. In more recent years, I became known amongst my family and friends for building exciting and detail-filled trips utilizing the skills I built in my business career. Now I want to use my enthusiasm for travel and my talent for organization to help you create the wonderful travel experiences like the ones I’ve enjoyed with my loved ones!
I live in Westchester, New York with my husband, Kevin, our teenage daughters, Alexa and Madeline, and our labradoodle Oakley. I’ve often said that I approach my job like I do motherhood… make sure people are well-fed, give everyone some TLC, and always make sure to get the job done with a bit of extra flair that they can appreciate.
As a mother, I love using the organizational skills I gained “on the job” to create a well-run house with two active girls while meeting the rigorous demands of the corporate world. Yes, over the years, I’ve made rewards charts for the girls to sleep through the night or do their homework and there was always a schedule on the fridge. However, my outlet was always looking for fun experiences to share with my family and open their eyes to new cultures. While we certainly had many wonderful local experiences, our greatest joys have always been our longer distance trips. Each time I turn to my family’s next trip, I immerse myself in seeking destination and activity recommendations from every source I can find and do countless hours of research. I also make sure to include my family in the planning. That’s a crucial step! What does everyone want to do? Are they all willing to try something new? I would come up with a preliminary itinerary, get buy-in from everyone and then create more formal ‘spreadsheet itineraries’ that include all the little necessary details. I LOVE seeing a great experience take shape!
I fell in love with building spectacular travel experiences after my husband and I went to Iceland in 2016. It was such a far and exotic locale and I found that, once we committed to the destination, I unsure how to start. But as I got to work and did the hours of research required, I discovered that I really enjoyed making the strange, familiar. From there, I began testing my skills in other exciting locales such as U.S. cities like Charleston, Phoenix/Scottsdale, Los Angeles/San Diego, and Park City (in the summertime, no less) and then some more exotic destinations like Greece, England, Israel, France, and Italy. These trips have been so rewarding for our family that our ritual became deciding on a next destination on our way home from each trip.
What did I learn? When it comes to planning personal trips, it can be really hard. I would often stress over how to integrate the recommendations I received from friends with on-line content and worry about how to interpret conflicting or unclear information. At times I would get discouraged, but, throughout, I understood that having support from experienced travel professionals made a huge difference.
Now with a lot of planning under my belt, and as part of the highly experienced Olive & Atlas team, I want to help you!
