Como Silk factory (4 Hours)

You will enjoy the private visit to the silk factory of a famous Family with Onirikos. Como and its silk, a family and its history. It’s a lasting red thread, and not only ideal, the one which ties this family to the territory in which they live and have a Company for various generations: history of chosen silk threads and textiles with passion, taste, competence, maximum attention to quality, to tell the whole World a technical and creative know-how which is impossible to improvise. The textile Company is specialized in ties: it has always worked on pure silk creating material for ties and finished ties. More recently, it has introduced the production of scarves. It was 1934 when they set up its first loom, we are not sure if by the founder himself or by a worked that remained anonymous: since then production never stopped, operating across decades with the same conquests and difficulties which, from season to season, were hitting the Country. After the visit you will follow to the Educational Silk Museum that collects and displays machines, objects, documents, samples and instruments witnessing the glorious past of the textile industry that still nowadays rewards Como as the “City of Silk”. The Museum extends over a surface of 1000 square metres and its exhibits reconstruct the silk manufacturing process with an historical and educational approach.

Moreover, the visitor is given the opportunity to learn more about both the whole process and the single phases that make it up. In some cases, the dimensions of the rooms make the exposition of cumbersome machines feasible. The machines were donated to the Museum and all restoration work was carried out by keeping the original mechanisms. The Museum has archives and warehouses where an indispensable heritage of machines and various objects is stored to augment the permanent exhibition.
