Alabaster workshop visit (3 Hours)

You will meet your professional English speaking driver in the hotel’s lobby. He will drive you to Volterra where you will meet your Professional Guide in order to experience a unique experience.

You will visit Alabaster workshop that is the only company in Volterra today that represents the sector of artisanal sculpture. After finishing their studies at the local State Art Institute and following many years of experience in artisanal alabaster studios, the owners understand the importance of keeping this artisanal tradition alive and have brought their particular workmanship back to its natural environment, to the historic center of Volterra. Their skill and notoriety has brought them to be frequently contacted and enlisted to carry out important restorations, such as that done on the alabaster ciborium dating back to the 1600s that is kept in the Cathedral of Potenza (renovated and with missing pieces reintegrated). They also collaborate with a variety of important contemporary artists to create works inspired by the designs of artists such as Ettore Spalletti, Chen Zhen, Tacita Dean, Anish Kapoor, Nari Ward,Sislej Xhafa, Giulio Paolini, Erkmen, Juan Munoz, Mario and Marisa Merz. Upon entering this environment one gets the sense of travelling back in time… the same tools, the same plaster models filling the shelves along the walls. For 25 years Alab'Arte has continuously renewed its creativity, inventing and creating models, and from these models they give life to sculptures, illuminations and objects of modern design, not to and mention the reproduction of classical sculptures (even to scale) the carving of sculptures reproduced from drawings.

After the visit your driver will escort you back to the Hotel.
