Day 1
En Route
N/a None
Your adventure begins today as you enplane for Africa.
Day 2

Intercontinental Hotel None
A Micato Safaris representative will greet you on arrival in Johannesburg, South Africa and take you to the InterContinental Johannesburg O.R. Tambo Airport Hotel, where a room has been reserved for you. The InterContinental Johannesburg hotel has drawn its inspiration from the African continent, capturing the culture and spirit of Africa through the use of simple shapes and symbolic artifacts to create an African environment in a contemporary setting. Relaxation facilities include a massage facility, a fully equipped gym with steam baths, and an indoor heated swimming pool that has a panoramic view across the Johannesburg skyline.
Day 3
Etosha National Park, Namibia
Onguma The Fort Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After an early breakfast this morning, you will fly to Windhoek, Namibia, connecting with your flight to Etosha National Park. You will arrive at your lodge in time for a late lunch followed by an afternoon game drive. Namibia is renowned for its dramatic landscapes, and Etosha and neighbouring Onguma overdeliver on the drama with vast views across flat plains, dotted with stalwart camel thorn trees. Not incidentally, this is perhaps Namibia’s best region for seeing every kind of animal. Surrounded by the profound peacefulness of Etosha National Park’s dry, vast landscapes and free-ranging animals is Onguma the Fort, whose complex of buildings with earthy and imposing stone walls not surprisingly evokes the feel of a Moroccan fort. Beyond the majestic main fort—which has a courtyard as well as a lounge and open-air dining room—are 11 guest suites, all more than 150 feet apart to afford maximum privacy. If you’re in need of a restorative dip there’s a lovely pool, and should you wish to only look upon the water, all suites have a view of a waterhole known to attract Etosha’s resident mammals.
Day 4
Etosha National Park, Namibia
Onguma The Fort Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Mornings are normally spent within Etosha National Park, which as noted has no shortage of game. The park is home to more than a hundred mammalian species including lion, leopard, cheetah, giraffe, and zebra. And as game outings unfold past the park’s life-giving waterholes you’re bound to see elephants, baboons, and heartbreakingly elegant antelopes, including charmingly diminutive dik-diks. Also in residence is a fine population of rare black rhinos.
Day 5
Etosha National Park, Namibia
Onguma The Fort Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
On a typical day—though of course on safari, no day is really typical—you may break from your Etosha game runs and return to Onguma for a well-earned lunch, after which you might explore the immediacy of the private reserve for more flora and fauna. Later in your not-so-typical day you may embark on an afternoon game drive, indulging in a sundowner along the way. Or you might explore the bush on foot on a guided walk.
Day 6
Cape Town, South Africa
Mont Rochelle Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After a final morning game drive followed by breakfast, you will fly to Windhoek, connecting with your flight to Cape Town. Upon arrival in Cape Town you will be met and escorted to Mont Rochelle, located in the lovely town of Franschhoek (“French Corner”) in the Cape Winelands. Spectacular vineyards cover the mountain slopes settled 300 years ago by the Huguenots, who in the late 17th century fled religious persecution in France and settled in the area, bringing the French wine and food culture with them. Most of the farms bear their original French names. Renovated by Richard Branson, Mont Rochelle features cozy yet bright rooms that offer luxury amenities such as underfloor heating. The hotel is surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens and its own vineyard. It is here that gourmet dining is paired with the finest of South African wines.
Day 7
Cape Town, South Africa
Mont Rochelle Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Be prepared to witness the most beautiful—and bountiful—countryside anywhere in the world as you depart for a day of wine tasting and touring through the Cape Winelands. Rolling purple vineyards, lush green farms, and charming cobblestone villages are all cupped in the protective foothills of the surrounding craggy mountains. Begin in the charming town of Stellenbosch, with its Cape Dutch, Georgian and Victorian architecture that has remained seemingly untouched for hundreds of years. Enjoy wine tasting at the Waterford Estate, perfectly surrounded by mountains and vineyards. You will have lunch at the renowned Delaire Graff Estate, one of the Cape’s premier wine estates. After lunch, return to the center of Franschhoek for a brief, guided walking tour in town and informal chocolate tasting at a local chocolatier.
Day 8
Cape Town, South Africa
One&only Cape Town Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After a leisurely morning, head to Pierneef à La Motte Restaurant, located within the nearby La Motte Wine Estate, for lunch. Enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding landscape as you dine on the chef’s modern interpretation of traditional Cape Winelands cuisine. After lunch, continue to Cape Town. Just 25 miles from the southernmost tip of Africa at the Cape of Good Hope, Cape Town is a geographically isolated yet strikingly beautiful city. The 3,500-foot Table Mountain with its sheer cliffs dominates its outlook, and mountain walks, vineyards and beaches surround it. Also of interest is the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront—which evokes images of the seafaring activities of the 19th century—and the Malay Quarter, once home to slaves brought in by the Dutch. The Moslem community frequents these steep streets—some still cobbled—and the 18th century flat-roof houses and mosques even today. Come evening, Micato guests are welcomed into the fold at the home of a prominent Cape Town couple for drinks and dinner, where you will hear a talk on local lore and “insider” Cape Town spots. With stunning views of Table Mountain and Signal Hill, the chic island design and contemporary African flair of the One&Only Cape Town provide a fashionable home-away-from-home on the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront. Its crescent-shaped architecture created so all guestrooms and suites enjoy the majesty of Table Mountain. Oversized baths are complete with rain shower, private water closet and dual marble vanity. Guests enjoy 24-hour butler service.
Day 9
Cape Town, South Africa
One&only Cape Town Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Weather permitting, begin your day with a visit to Table Mountain via cable car and marvel at the breathtaking views over the city and its beaches. Next, head off to explore the magnificent Cape Peninsula. During the tour you will visit the Cape Point (of Flying Dutchman fame), Simon’s Town, and the resident colony of African penguins at Boulders Beach. Cape Point marks the southern extremity of the Cape Peninsula, affording visitors views that are unrivalled anywhere else in the world. Come evening, Micato guests are welcomed into the fold at the home of a prominent Cape Town couple for drinks and dinner, where you will hear a talk on local lore and “insider” Cape Town spots. Follows the dramatic Atlantic coastline back to Cape Town. The five-mile stretch of pristine white sand between Kommetjie and Noordhoek villages is deservedly popular with equestrians, and the latter serves as a gateway to Chapmans Peak Drive, one of the world’s most beautiful roads.
Day 10
Cape Town, South Africa
One&only Cape Town Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
This morning you will take a ferry to Robben Island, the former political prison where Nelson Mandela and his partners in the struggle against apartheid were held captive for decades. Robben Island is now an inspiring museum, contributing to the growth of the new South Africa. Continue to the picturesque, formerly named “Malay Quarter,” where you can see the unique culture, lifestyle and personality of the Cape Muslim community, as well as their contribution to South Africa’s development. The Malay were originally shipped into the Colony of the Cape as skilled artisan slaves. Later on, they achieved their liberty and were awarded an area for settlement where many still reside today. After lunch at a wine estate in the Constantia Valley, you will have the unique opportunity to visit an AmericaShare project. Over 30 years ago, Micato founded AmericaShare, a nonprofit foundation dedicated to helping populations affected by the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Nairobi, Kenya. Through education, community outreach and economic empowerment programmes, AmericaShare provides hundreds of disadvantaged children and women with access to basic services in order to facilitate sustainable change. You will spend a few hours in an impoverished area of Cape Town where AmericaShare is working to better the lives of the people there. This is a unique chance to witness everyday life in Africa, and see firsthand how a poor community is improving itself against daunting odds. Seeing the bright smiles and indomitable spirit of these people is inspiring—in fact, many Micato guests mark the AmericaShare visit as the highlight of their safari.
Day 11

Ulusaba Rock Lodge Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After breakfast this morning, you will be escorted to the airport for your flight to Sabi Sand Game Reserve via Nelspruit. You will arrive your lodge in time for lunch and an afternoon game run. The Sabi Sand Game Reserve is made up of a group of game reserves, including the Ulusaba Private Game Reserve—owned by Sir Richard Branson—where you will be staying. Ecologically and geographically, Ulusaba is linked to the world-famous Kruger National Park. So diverse is its habitat and wildlife that you have an excellent chance of experiencing close encounters with the Big Five—elephant, rhino, buffalo, lion and leopard. Ulusaba Rock Lodge stands elevated high above the game reserve, carved into the Ulusaba Rock itself. The accommodation and interiors are reminiscent of a particular African tribe or region. Each of the luxurious bedrooms is air conditioned with private decks overlooking the far-reaching savannah below. The pool with its natural waterfall is the ideal location to soak up the atmosphere of the bushveld.
Day 12
Sabi Sand Game Reserve
Ulusaba Rock Lodge Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Today and tomorrow you will enjoy morning and afternoon game runs. A typical day on safari starts with an early wake-up call, where you enjoy tea, coffee and snacks before setting off on the morning game drive with your ranger and tracker. Return to the lodge for breakfast, and the option of a guided walk in the reserve. After lunch, you will have time to enjoy the tranquility of your surroundings. Later in the afternoon, depart on another game drive, keeping a keen eye out for the elusive and shy leopard or watching the exhilarating speed of the lion preying his dinner.
Day 13
Sabi Sand Game Reserve
Ulusaba Rock Lodge Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
This area is renowned for the Big Five, abundant antelope and birdlife and an incredible diversity of smaller animals. Grazers such as blue wildebeest, Burchell’s zebra and warthog favor open areas, while impala are most common at the edge of bush clumps. Other ungulates to watch out for are giraffe, hippo, bushbuck, grey duiker and kudu. Rangers attest to the fact that this region boasts a greater density of wildlife than anywhere else on the continent. The excellent game viewing experience is complemented by other activities such as stargazing, bird watching and moonlit bush dinners or sundowners (weather permitting). Ulusaba also has a boutique spa which must have the most exciting location of almost any spa on Earth—800 feet above the African savannah.
Day 14
Sabi Sand Game Reserve
N/a Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
After a final game activity followed by brunch, you will be escorted to Ulusaba’s airstrip for the flight to Johannesburg, where you will connect to your international flight home. Bid farewell to Africa knowing that this has been a journey you will remember for the rest of your life.
Day 15

We chose carefully to find the best African Tour company that we believed would provide the best, stand behind its product and not offer lame excuses. Micato proved its excellence in every way, including acknowledging an error and standing behind its well earned reputation to make it right. Not all would do that, as we all know from experience. M did a remarkable job and worth the money.. Best personnel and logistics around. So.......the best, and proud to tell the world.

Micto has a reputation for extraordinary service which is well deserved. We chose the Grand Safari and secretly thought that it really wouldn't fully justify the name or the price but were pleasantly proved wrong. We were greeted by Jane and Felix Pinto, company founders at the start and end of the trip who made us feel a part of their family. Every effort was made to make the experience comfortable, luxurious and magical and all of our needs were anticipated. They even showed up with a birthday gift for me when I had forgotten all about the date! The guides are charming and knowledgable about animals, history, culture, politics - you name it. The drivers were magicians at anticipating animal behavior and getting us to just the right spot to see just the right animals. We've since met other Micto travelers whom we were pleased to note have had similar experiences. Don't go to Africa with anyone but Micato.

Everything from the moment we were picked up in Capetown, to the end of our trip in Nairobi was top rate. The guides and drivers were exceptional, the hotels were fabulous. We really felt spoiled by the way we were treated. The only downside had to do with sending our bags home that we weren't going to use on the 18 day safari - one of the five bags never made it out of South Africa. DHL has no idea what happened to it.

We recently completed our Micato Safari. We spent 13 days in Kenya and Tanzania. In short, the trip was perfect. Starting with our Nairobi Airport greeting by Micato (Salma). She raced us through customs where we were picked up in a Micato Land Cruiser and delivered to our hotel where we were met by Micato Concierge Virginia. She seamlessly checked us into our Nairobi hotel. Then we met Phillip, our Safari Guide. Phillip was top notch and made sure we had a fantastic time including a delicious lunch at the home of the Pintos (founders and owners of Micato). there is an incredible amount of detail that goes into the planning and execution of a African Safari. Phillip made it look easy (although we know he was working hard to make our experience perfect). If we decide to go back to Africa (or visit India), there is only one Safari company we'd use and that's Micato.

This company is absolutely outstanding. They thought or and took care of every detail. Once we landed in Kenya they took over with a team of advisors, guides and helpers. Tour was well planned and the so-called camp sites (really hotel-like) were top of the line. The people that work for Micato are incredibly nice, friendly and helpful. The tours guides are very knowledgeable. All speak excellent English. One detail to remember is that you travel with other people and they can enhance or be a negative. We were lucky we had a good group, but I could see how it would be a downer to travel with other types of people.

Micato is a top notch tour operator. This was our second trip with them but the first where we took our family along with us. Managing seven people, three of whom were children, requires patience and perseverance. From the greeters at the various airports, to Sue who led us at Victoria Falls, and Hein who traveled with us throughout, our trip was wonderful. One suggestion would be to train the bartenders in the various camps how to make drinks and to have a more upgraded and better selection of wines and liquors. Other than that, not much to complain about. We were happy campers!

There are vacations that inform and open the mind and even those that give joy. But the Micato Safari that we experienced touched the soul. It was a unique and once in a life time experience to observe the wildlife of Africa and we shall probably never experience anything like it again. What raised the experience to a much higher level was first the attention given to us by the Micato staff. Never have we experience such dedicated individuals to providing an incredible experience. The staff expressed how much they enjoyed their jobs and this was reflected time and time again in the service they provided. There are no words to describe them. It was also the quality of lodging each night and the service provided that helped after a full day of bouncing on paths that were roads in name only. Mr. and Mrs. Pinto, owners of Micato, were such delightful people. Many more words of praise could be said but the word count is limited.

We have just returned from a 3 week trip to South Africa and East Africa with Micato Safaris. Our travel Advisor recommended Micato and it was an Amazing Experience from start to finish. The guides truly cared about us, attended to all of our needs and nothing was ever a problem for them. We started planning our tour 18 months before it began and because of how complicated the Visa situation can be, they took us step by step through the process. We stayed in the finest places whether a six star hotel or a six star tented camp and everywhere we went we were “wowed”. I think it was also very important that the same guide Dennis Simi stayed with us on our entire trip because we got to know each other and he just really made us so comfortable. We were especially excited to meet Micato owners Felix and Jane Pinto, who went out of their way to meet us at an airport in Kenya just to say hi and see how we were enjoying our trip. Jane Pinto hosted us for lunch at her home the first day of our journey. A very nice, warm way to begin. The itinerary was perfect with each day filled with different sights and adventures. The Fairmont Norfolk, Fairmont Mara and Virunga Lodge were wonderful. Can’t say the same for the Sopa lodges. Tired, worn and not at all in keeping with a luxury safari. All went well until I was dropped at the wrong air terminal in Nairobi for my flight to Kigali at 3:00am. I managed to make my flight by running across the parking lot with my luggage to the correct terminal. Upon arrival in Kigali there was no one to meet me. Took about 45 minutes of my being alone in a strange airport to get someone to pick me up. Being a solo elderly female traveler in a foreign country, this was pretty disconcerting. I have no idea how that could have happened, as that is why I chose a reputable tour company. The tour director, Tim, did call and apologize. Great trip otherwise.

They do everything to make sure your safari is a success using the best Tour Directors and Driver/Guides. The Pinto family takes personal interest in everyones travel to make sure they exceed your expectations. The national parks they go to are the best in the world and the lodges are five star all the way.

Magical Micato Safari

When we decided to go on a safari, our first stop was to Tracy Hughes at Stellar Travel. She highly recommended a Micato Safari. We went in early December 2019. Micato took care of every detail. It turned out that we were the only 2 people on our safari, so needless to say we were totally taken care of. Micato promises to never cancel your itinerary. Our safari director, Sammy, was there from the time we arrived at the Nairobi airport until we left. He took care of every detail. He was so friendly and so knowledgeable about the animals and we had many great discussions about life in East Africa. The itinerary gave us a wonderful experience and we saw all the animals we had hoped to see and even more. The accommodations, service, and food at all the places we stayed were top notch. Meeting Jane & Felix Pinto and having lunch at their home, just shows the personal care they feel towards every person on a Micato safari. Their leadership in that area, shows with all their employees.
