It has been our philosophy to give back in ways that are far more personal and powerful than tourism dollars. Many of our clients, upon their return from their destinations, have asked, “What can we do to help?” We ensure that 100% of your contribution goes to the charity or community project that has the most need. We encourage our clients to bring their own ideas to our designers during the travel planning process. Incorporating philanthropy work into customized itineraries is one of our favorite things to do for our clients. Ker & Downey’s president David Marek has made serving the impoverished communities of Uganda his passion. Over a decade ago when 9/11 occurred, followed by the economic downward spiral, he heard the call to be of service and created Nets for Africa. Through annual mission trips we provide thousands of blood tests, doctor visits, dental treatment, life-threatening surgeries and distribute supplies, including thousands of mosquito nets.

For the most part, everything Ker & Downey did for our trip was outstanding! The accommodations were incredible, the people we encountered at each stop were definitely an asset to the trip, and the travel arrangements were efficient and flawless! While there were a few little things we would have tweaked, the trip ran very smoothly and we had a fantastic experience. While we asked a gazillion questions, there were a few things that we didn't know to anticipate and might have benefited from a little more upfront instruction or knowledge but the overall experience was 5 star!

Ker and Downey is a great agency to use for international travel. We had a great experience with this company, and their connections in South America were courteous and hospitable. I would highly recommend using KD if you are traveling to a new place, and are needing assistance with transportation and tours!

Galapagos magic

Reviewed on: 04 Dec 2018

Ker & Downey arranged for our bucket-list trip to Quito and the Galapagos Islands. Our elderly in-laws were meeting us in Quito from Peru. Ker & Downey had them met at the plane and walked through customs, immigration and handed over to their driver who took them to the hotel, which was a great relief for us. The Quasar guide hired in Quito by Ker & Downey was extraordinary. She spent the entire day with us and personally handled airport transfers with a smile even when one arrival was at 3am. The Royal Galapagos cruise line they contracted with for our cruise was perfection: fabulous boat, crew, food, and naturalist guide. The only hiccough was at the end of our trip, when the boat company handling our flight back to Quito did not communicate well with Ker & Downey or the driver taking us to the airport and we barely made it onto a flight. Communication between K&D and local operators might need to be reviewed. Otherwise, we felt spoiled every step of the trip!

Paris and Iceland

Our trip was amazing to Paris than Iceland. We were able to experience the D Day celebration in Normandy which was unbelievable. The driver/guides were always where they said they would be and on time. The tours went above normal tours and we learned so much.

Trip to Ireland

Didn't interact with them, they didn't send us pertinent information that we finally got when we were contacted by Irish Chauffeurs. The drivers were fabulous and went out of their way to take us to all the places we had asked for. Don't know what role Ker & Downey actually played in putting this trip together.

Thorough, great follow-up

By: Jeannie

We travel a lot and have worked with a number of top tour companies like Tauck, A&K, and Vaya. We chose K&D for our custom trip to Honduras because frankly, the bigs don’t go there or many other off the beaten track places in Latin America which is such a shame. I’m glad we chose them as they are smaller, more personable and service oriented. Their pre-trip planner was one of the best - customized for our trip (the tipping section was particularly helpful). Monica, from their Guatemala office, kept in touch with us throughout from the minute we landed to boarding our flight home. She also helped us change plans from a flight to a ferry at last minute due to weather. All said I wouldn’t hesitate to use K&D again especially for our Latin American jaunts.
