Choose to drink in the magnificent scenery of South Africa’s Drakensberg Mountains on a picturesque helicopter flight. Leave your lodge in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve or Kruger National Park and set off by car to rustic Hazyview, nestled among rows and rows of banana plantations.

From here, you will climb on board a helicopter and set off on an exhilarating scenic flight that swoops over deep and mysterious gorges and soars through lush valleys bursting with vegetation and colour. The craggy landscape below marks the edge of the escarpment of the Drakensberg Mountains. The flight will linger above one of many cascading waterfalls, allowing you to photograph the tumbling plumes of water as they plunge and foam on the rocks below. Enjoy the magnificent views from the spot known as God’s Window, where the craggy escarpment opens out onto a wide panorama of the landscape below. Follow the winding twists and turns that mark the course of the 1 000 metre-deep (3 280-foot), 30 kilometre-long (19 mile) Blyde River Canyon. The third deepest and greenest canyon in the world, it is delineated by dramatic geological formations and fascinating rock strata. Enjoy a clear view of the symmetrical round peaks known as the Three Rondavels and listen to the colourful local fable of an ancient chief and his three views, which inspired their name. Temporarily sated with the breath-taking views, you will come in to land at one of the region’s most spectacular lookout points.

Gaze out onto the wonder and beauty of the Mpumalanga Lowveld as a delicious picnic spread is prepared. Clink a glass of South African sparkling wine in celebration of the magnificent landscapes that you have seen before climbing back on board to travel back to your original take-off site. Once the helicopter lands for the final time, you will be driven back to your luxurious lodge in the heart of the Sabi Sand or Kruger National Park.
