ARRIVE PANAMA CITY, PANAMA. Arrive in Panama City, a beautiful, colorful, and vibrant city, where you will be met by your Local Host. Built in 1519 by Pedro Arias de Avila, a Spanish conquistador who made it his base for plundering Peru’s riches, Panama today remains one of the central hubs for commerce and trade in the Americas. Panama offers diverse natural wonders, a melting pot of ethnicities and cultures, and historical as well as modern cityscapes.
Day 2
Panama City, Panama
None Breakfast
PANAMA CITY–DAVID–BOQUETE. A short flight brings you to David in the province of Chiriqui. This enchanted land is the Chiriqui Highlands, the part of Cordillera Central that defines the northern border of the province of Chiriqui. It is a beautiful landscape of cloud forests, volcanic peaks, and coffee plantations, and is home to most of Panama’s Ngöbe Buglé Indians. Here you will find rainforests bedecked full of chattering iridescent birds, flowering epiphytes high above the forest floor, and gurgling streams making their way toward the nearby sea. Arrive at your resort in Boquete this afternoon. (B)
Day 3
Boquete
None Breakfast
BOQUETE. This morning, the choice is yours. Perhaps visit Finca Lerida, located just outside Baru Volcano National Park. Keep an eye out for the elusive resplendent quetzal, 3-wattled bellbird, black-faced solitaire, volcano hummingbird, long-tailed silky flycatcher, and prong-billed barbet amid the ancient trees covered with orchids, bromeliads, and lichens. Or, explore La Amistad International Park. Shared with neighboring Costa Rica, La Amistad is located on the Central American natural land bridge where flora and fauna from North and South America mix. Spend some time hiking and exploring the area in search of the resplendent quetzal, the Andean pygmy owl, and many western highland birds. (B)
Day 4
Boquete
None Breakfast
BOQUETE. Today is free to do as you please. Perhaps take an optional trip to the Caldera Hot Springs to soak in the thermally heated waters, visit Café Ruiz, where experts explain the process coffee beans go through, take an adrenaline-filled zipline tour through the cloud forest’s canopy, or enjoy a scenic horseback ride. (B)
Day 5
Panama City, Panama

BOQUETE–DAVID–PANAMA CITY. Depart Boquete and transfer to the airport for your flight to Panama City. (B)
Day 6
Panama City, Panama
None Breakfast
PANAMA CITY. After breakfast, your PRIVATE CITY TOUR visits Casco Antiguo, the colonial area and oldest sector of modern Panama City, founded in 1673 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This historic district was built as a protected walled city after Panama City was burned down in a pirate attack in 1671. Here, see the restored colonial buildings, churches, and historical monuments. Next, visit the MIRAFLORES LOCKS at the Panama Canal to witness this engineering genius in operation. During your guided tour, learn about the history of the canal and its construction, and observe transiting vessels navigating the locks from just a few feet away. (B)
Day 7
Gamboa, Panama
None Breakfast, Lunch
PANAMA CITY–GAMBOA RAINFOREST RESORT. Today a special treat is in store when you board a vessel for a Panama Canal PARTIAL TRANSIT. Your boat will enter the canal at the Gailard Cut, where the Chagres River flows into the canal and where the canal was carved through the Continental Divide. Enter the Pedro Miguel Locks, where your vessel will be lowered approximately 30 feet into Miraflores Lake. Continue to the Miraflores Locks to be lowered almost 60 feet to the Pacific Ocean. Disembark your ship and head to Gamboa Rainforest Resort within Soberania National Park. (B,L)
Day 8
Gamboa, Panama
None Breakfast, Lunch
GAMBOA RAINFOREST RESORT. An enchanting journey takes you deep into the dense jungles of the Chagres, where the Emberá Indians have lived for centuries. The adventure begins with a CRUISE up the river in dugout canoes, the Emberá traditional hand-carved boats. Upon arrival at the INDIAN VILLAGE, you will be taken back in time as you are immersed in ancient Emberá cultural dances and music that have not changed much since Columbus arrived in the 1500s. The Emberás will give you a glimpse into their mystical rituals and amazing knowledge of medicinal plants and other natural remedies. The Indians will invite you to explore the area’s abundant variety of birds and wildlife during a trek that takes you through the untouched jungle and past sparkling waterfalls. Top off your visit with a typical lunch in the village. (B,L)

Excellent service

Our trip was extremely enjoyable, our local host was the bomb! Thank you Stephane!  Paris would not have made as much sence with out him. If I was forced to find somthing that needed to improve, it was that American Airlines needed to update their old transcontinental aircraft.

Best of Both

This tour company gave us the best of both worlds.  Group tours AND the freedom of choosing what we wanted to do as well.  We were welcomed by globus at the airports and connected to the places we were going so we were never confused.  The tours they provided in both London & Paris each hit the major highlights of the cities and were very informative  There were globus agents in the lobbies of our hotels so if we wanted to book additional tours or need advise or even a connection to a restaurant or site (without a tour involved) they were able to help.

I recently took a monograms vacation to Peru. I was impressed at every stage of the trip.  Ms. Kim Schneider did a fantastic job finding the right travel Package for me and was readily available  to answer any  questions with her expert travel knowledge.  I was also impressed with the monogram team in  Peru. The guides were friendly and  knowledgable  and the hotels were excellent. I plan to  book future trips with Ms. Schneider using Virtuoso/Monograms.

Our adventure was India and in such a crazy wonderful place it is great to have such personal service. The drivers were just awesome, local hosts and guides friendly and knowledgeable. It was comforting to have on hand when you are in such a place that is just a little out of your comfort zone. We were given great advice on how to maneuver through the crowds and shop keepers.

Monograms was a wonderful source for our trip. Even if they were not part of our guide for a tour, they helped us with where we had to go, what time to be there, etc. went above and beyond the call of duty. Gave us phone numbers to reach them if we needed help.

London or River cruise?

By: L&K

Reviewed on: 12 May 2017

Monograms for our separate London trip before our Avalon River cruise was OK, but not terrific. We didn't know about all of the London excursions we could have booked through Monograms, and the hotel was not great (rooms were dark, lighting was very confusing, there was a small amount of mold in the shower, and the conversion electric outlet had to be replaced). River cruise was good, but we don't think Monograms had any role in that.

Very good with one reservation

The attention paid by the Monograms staff was very good. We enjoyed our tours. Our plane arrived late so our Monograms representative gave us a private tour the next day. We had one problem. When we were bumped off our flight and had to take another one I followed all of the directions that were in the Monograms booklet to alert them to the change and arrange for transport from the airport to the hotel. We were assured that someone would be there to pick us up. When we arrived at the airport no one was there to pick us up. I called the hotel and they contacted the Monograms representative. She had not been informed. We had to take a cab for which we have not been reimbursed. Transport from the airport to our hotel was included in the package. We should not have to pay for it. They need to get a better emergency service.

I highly recommend Monograms as a travel company. We were met at the airport upon our arrival and transported to our starting point hotel. We were taken to each train station in a timely manner, guided onto the proper train, and met in each city by another Monograms agent. Our local hosts were marvelous, always available to help us along each leg of our trip. The excursions provided by this company were all top notch as well. They were led by professional drivers and local guides, well worth their addition to our trip.
