Description

Scotland’s Handsome and Historic Capital City. Discover this beautiful Capital City and immerse yourself in Scotland’s past and present. Edinburgh offers something for everyone, from its rich historic legacy, iconic sights to the latest in modern architecture and design.

You might like to begin your sightseeing in the atmospheric Old Town at iconic Edinburgh Castle which dominates the city skyline and takes visitors to the heart of the story of the nation.

Adjacent to the castle esplanade take a leisurely stroll on cobbled Castlehill (the city’s oldest street) before discovering the narrow “closes” running rib-like off the backbone of the Royal Mile by famous attractions including St Giles Cathedral, John Knox’s House and the modern architecture of the devolved Scottish Parliament building to The Palace of Holyroodhouse the official residence of the Royal Family when in Scotland. This fine baroque palace is also closely associated with Scotland’s rich history.

From the ancient Old Town the drive can continue by Duddingston Loch, situated in Holyrood Park, which is beautifully tranquil all year round into the medieval Port of Leith where the former Royal Yacht Britannia is now moored. The Britannia Experience gives an insight into what life was like on board this famous ship for the Royal Family and their guests.

This afternoon enjoy the delights of the 18th Century New Town which is still viewed as a world-class example of Georgian urban architecture. With its elegant terraces and broad streets visitors are treated to a glimpse of how the privileged residents lived in the 18th century at the exquisite Georgian House and where the Scottish National Portrait Gallery houses a magnificent collection of paintings of Scotland’s famous figures from history to the present day.

It is suggested that a maximum of three visitor attractions be visited today and of course the city has much more to offer from discovering the art of the whisky blender at The Scotch Whisky Heritage Centre to climbing the dormant Volcano of Arthur’s Seat to be rewarded by amazing views of the city.

Through Laura Clark, so happy we chose W.L. Sleigh Ltd for our transports and tour of Scotland. The gentlemen could not have been nicer. Very professional, punctual, and helpful. Vehicles were very clean and comfortable. We'll definitely use them again.

We did not deal with them--Nancy Cutter did. Hotels were excellent that they arranged (except Western Isles Hotel in Mull, but we chose them, not Sleigh or Nancy); only other complaint was steam engine train ride through Cairngorm Park, which was a ripoff.

Outlander Magic

Since I have been an Outlander fan since 2008, I was pleased to learn from our travel agent Carlos Arguelles that he had made the connection for us with this tour company. From the meeting at the airport to the detailed itinerary with postal codes included for purposes of insertion into the car's GPS system to the luxury vehicle provided, we cannot say enough wonderful things about this tour company. The itinerary was not overloaded with too many stops but yet William grasped the essence of the Outlander mystique for us. The tour guide who was assigned to us for a one-on-two walking tour of Edinburgh was perfect for us to learn Scottish history. She was gracious and articulate. The accommodations selected added seamlessly to the overall itinerary. I can't think of anything I would have changed.
