Itinerary

DAY LOCATION(S) HOTEL MEALS DESCRIPTION
Day 1
01 Jun 2019
Venice, Italy
Hotel Splendid Venice Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Where butter is expected in the place of olive oil,

and buckwheat replaces your standard slice of bread,

the northern reaches of Italy offer a profound taste

of regional distinctions ready for our discovery.

Upon arriving in Venice, private boats await to whisk us

through the famous canals onward to our hotel. At the

Splendid Venice, our home for two nights, a welcome

cocktail reception beckons us to the rooftop.

Day 2
02 Jun 2019
Venice, Italy
Hotel Splendid Venice Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

The curious nature of Venice is on display as we embark

on a walking tour, utterly fascinating to discover in this

fashion. After lunch, a gondola ride is also on the table,

of course. This evening a Welcome Dinner is held at

Venissa Wine Resort. So far off the beaten track that

it has its very own private island, this Michelin-starred

estate is the only winery in Venice.

Day 3
03 Jun 2019
Venice, Italy
Capriva Del Friuli, Italy
Castello di Spessa Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

This morning will appeal to those with a passion for

theatre as we visit La Fenice Opera House. Affectionately

translated to ‘The Phoenix’, this landmark has withstood

three separate fires. Inside, a private aperitif is served

and we are guided through the theatre’s history during a

visit. After lunch, we farewell Venice for Capriva del Friuli.

During our time here, we stay at the 13th-century

Castello di Spessa, a medieval winery and estate.

Day 4
04 Jun 2019
Capriva Del Friuli, Italy
Castello di Spessa Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Today we depart for a day’s discovery of Aquileia, an

ancient Roman city. After exploring the World Heritagelisted

area, lunch is served in the nearby coastal town,

Grado. Returning to Capriva del Friuli, we stop briefly

in at Cormòns where we sample the town’s famous ham.

Day 5
05 Jun 2019
Capriva Del Friuli, Italy
Castello di Spessa Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Typical Friulian dishes celebrate fresh produce, and with

an interactive cooking lesson at our hotel and winery, we

learn how to make this produce shine in classic recipes.

On our final evening in Capriva del Friuli, we dine at

Orsone, set among creeping vines. Crispy seafood

and melting arancini are but a few stars on the menu.

Day 6
06 Jun 2019
Portobuffole, Italy
Sacile, Italy
Cison Di Valmarino, Italy
Villa Abbazia Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

En route to Cison di Valmarino, we pause in Portobuffolè

and Sacile, both characterised by a snaking river that

paves its way through the city centres. Once we arrive

in Cison di Valmarino, we are welcomed at Villa Abbazia.

Dinner this evening is served at the villa’s Michelin-starred

restaurant where they say complicated simplicity is the

essence of every dish. We stay for three nights.

Day 7
07 Jun 2019
Cison Di Valmarino, Italy
Villa Abbazia Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

A local pastry shop in Treviso anticipates our arrival.

Here we try our hand at making tiramisu, and sample

the desserts after. The World Heritage-listed Villa di

Maser is considered one of the finest masterpieces of

Italian architect, Andrea Palladio. And once we’ve had our

fill of regional sweets, we explore the museum at leisure.

Day 8
08 Jun 2019
Cison Di Valmarino, Italy
Villa Abbazia Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Amid the hills surrounding Conegliano, we visit Italy’s

renowned prosecco region. Among ancient churches

and vineyards, a number of local wineries are prepared

for our visit. We sample their finest fare and consider

how the drop, once so sweet, has developed over the

ages – the result being the crisper, dry wine of today.

Proceed to the Abbey of Follina with its striking winged

altar. Rounding off our time in Cison di Valmarino,

dinner is at Ristorante Sansovino.

Day 9
09 Jun 2019
Padua, Italy
Verona, Italy
Palazzo Victoria Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Before we reach Verona, we take a slight detour to Padua,

exploring the town on foot and lunching at a local

restaurant. Upon arrival in Verona, we check in to the

refined Palazzo Victoria, which is an outstanding example

of how Roman and medieval innovation has spread across

Italy’s regions. Amid surrounds of typical local marble,

we are lulled to sleep by the hum of authentic Italian life.

Day 10
10 Jun 2019
Verona, Italy
Palazzo Victoria Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Romantics rejoice as we embark on a private walking tour

of Verona, the birthplace of Shakespeare’s iconic tragedy,

Romeo and Juliet. Wandering through the piazzas and

alleyways is akin to being part of the performance, but

of course, there is more to the city than literature. A string

quartet performs exclusively for us at the Palazzo Verità-

Poeta – a 1st-century aristocratic mansion. Set in the heart

of the city, the past of the noble Verità-Poeta family, longtime

residents of Verona, becomes easily lost in history.

Day 11
11 Jun 2019
Verona, Italy
Palazzo Victoria Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Amarone wine can only be crafted using a single

technique. Drying grapes for up to 120 days until nearly

half the liquid remains, they are then fermented for over

a month. Sample the rare creation at local wineries in this

prestigious area this afternoon.

This evening, we dine at Palazzo Victoria’s Borsari 36.

Genuine culinary tradition influenced by the trade market

of Venito is served alongside a modern reinterpretation.

Day 12
12 Jun 2019
Trento, Italy
Bolzano, Italy
Hotel Laurin Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Leaving Verona in our past, we visit Trento for lunch.

Nestled within the Adige River Valley, sights of medieval

frescos and a baroque chapel come standard. Continue

to Bolzano and Hotel Laurin.

Day 13
13 Jun 2019
Bolzano, Italy
Hotel Laurin Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Set in a valley of vineyards, explore Bolzano on your

own schedule before a visit to Franz Haas Winery.

Passed down across seven generations of winemakers,

this historic family winery has been refining the art form

since the 1880s.

Day 14
14 Jun 2019
Bolzano, Italy
Hotel Laurin Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

The mood is set at a traditional malga, or farmhouse,

today. Over airy vistas of lakes and valleys, we dine on

local specialties at a languid pace. Walk it all off during

a stroll around Brixen.

This afternoon is spent in the shadow of the Dolomites.

At San Leonardo, property of the Marchesi Gonzaga,

we adore the estate’s parklands, villa, museum, church,

and perhaps most importantly, its cellar.

Day 15
15 Jun 2019
Lake Garda, Italy
Grand Hotel Lido Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Some 1,000 years ago, the Tenuta San Leonardo

estate was a monastery, but for three centuries now,

the Marquis Guerrieri Gonzaga family have called it

home. Today we enjoy lunch at the vineyards before

retiring to Lido Palace at Lake Garda.

Day 16
16 Jun 2019
Lake Garda, Italy
Grand Hotel Lido Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

On the shores of one of the esteemed Italian Lakes, Lake

Garda, we explore the peninsula town of Sirmione today.

To enter, we must first walk through Scaliger Castle which

protected Sirmione for centuries. The day then takes us

to Desenzano del Garda, widely considered the most

cosmopolitan of lakeside locations. We return to

Lido Palace with time for a night-cap.

Day 17
17 Jun 2019
Tremezzina - Lake Como, Italy
Grand Hotel Tremezzo Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

One of Italy’s best-kept culinary secrets is revealed to us

in the Franciacorta wine region. Producing some of the

world’s finest sparkling wine, we sample the menu at a

local winery. Perhaps we’ll find our newest favourite to

be riserva – aged for no less than 60 months on its lees.

Continuing to Tremezzo on Lake Como, we call the Grand

Hotel Tremezzo home for the following three nights.

Day 18
18 Jun 2019
Tremezzina - Lake Como, Italy
Grand Hotel Tremezzo Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

A private boat takes us across the post-card perfect

waters of Lake Como. Along the way, we take rest at Villa

Carlotta, Villa Balbianello and the neo-classical Villa Melzi.

Day 19
19 Jun 2019
Tremezzina - Lake Como, Italy
Grand Hotel Tremezzo Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Having discovered Lake Como from the water, today

we are presented with the opportunity to explore the

surrounds by foot.

- Catch a funicular to Brunate where panoramic vistas

of Como await. From here, we hike across the lush

landscape to Torno, a rare lakeside medieval village.

Starring both on and off the menu, the lake is an elegant

setting for our dinner this evening. Inspired by the

philosophy of using local produce to highlight the lake’s

naturalness, we dine as stars shimmer in the water’s surface.

Day 20
20 Jun 2019
Milan, Italy
Bulgari Hotel Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

destination to discover. In Milan, the Bulgari Hotel

Description

Bread is torn rather than chopped. Earthy herbs, basil and thyme,

are foraged from a local garden. And it’s all drenched in enough olive oil

to ignite a mighty blaze. When it comes to food in the northern reaches of Italy,

there’s nothing basic about the basics. Snaking across the top of the country,

an Italy unlike its siblings towards the middle and south is revealed.

Vibrant vineyards and kitchens, humble to grand, open their doors

to us on this gourmet discovery with a group of just 24.
