Itinerary

DAY LOCATION(S) HOTEL MEALS DESCRIPTION
Day 1
Cusco, Peru
None None

A transportation service awaits your arrival at the Cusco Airport to transfer you to your Sacred Valley hotel. On the way, stop and visit the Inkariy Museum, bringing pre-Columbian Peruvian cultures to life. You will be accompanied by a guide who will inform you about the attractions the city has to offer and assist you along the way.

Day 2
Sacred Valley, Peru
None Breakfast, Lunch

Breakfast at the hotel. Start your day at the Pisac market, which has stands that exhibit and sell products manufactured by area residents. Beautiful alpaca textiles, musical instruments, paintings, carvings, necklaces and replicas of old Inca pieces are sure to catch your eye. Continue to the Pisac archaeological site, which has the largest complex of terraces in the area and is an agricultural masterpiece of the Inca Empire. Next, have lunch at a local restaurant, followed by a visit Ollantaytambo, making a series of stops at points of interest. The town of Ollantaytambo is a typical example of Incan urban planning, whose present-day residents still live in accordance with their old traditions. Inca ruler Pachacuti conquered the town, destroyed it and built a new one, absorbing it as part of his empire. This town exhibits one of the most remarkable complexes of the Inca Empire. Return to your hotel in Sacred Valley.

Day 3
Machu Picchu, Peru
None Breakfast, Lunch

Start the day with breakfast at the hotel. Your tour to Machu Picchu begins with a train ride to Aguas Calientes, arriving in approximately two hours. This town is also known as ‘Machu Picchu pueblo’– the town of Machu Picchu – and is the last stop before entering the most important archaeological site in Peru. In Aguas Calientes you can find a train station, a craft market, restaurants and hotels of different categories for those who prefer to spend the night at the foot of the mountain and climb it early. Finally, after a short transfer, reach Machu Picchu, a masterpiece of engineering and architecture that served as a sanctuary and retreat for the Inca ruler Pachacuti. Machu Picchu, which means ‘Old Mountain’, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New 7 Wonders of the World. Once in the citadel, you may optionally also visit the Intipunku (Sun Gate), the Wayna Picchu (subject to space availability) and the Inca Bridge. After the tour, enjoy lunch at Café Inkaterra in Aguas Calientes. Return to Cusco by train in the afternoon.

Day 4
Cusco, Peru
None Breakfast

Breakfast at the hotel. Start your tour today by visiting Coricancha, also known as the ‘Temple of the Sun’, which was built by the Inca ruler Pachacuti and, upon the arrival of the Spaniards, became the base for the construction of the Santo Domingo Convent. Here, during the Inca Empire, reverence was surrendered to the sun, and there was even time when the structure was covered in gold. Next, visit the Cathedral, the most imposing monument in Plaza de Armas square. The construction of the cathedral took almost 100 years to complete, beginning in the mid-16th century. Hundreds of stones were extracted and transported from the Sacsayhuaman fortress under the command of the Ecclesiastical Council to use for the construction of the church. Continue your tour to the fortress of Sacsayhuaman, a magnificent building conceived and built by Inca ruler Pachacuti in the 15th century. The Sacsayhuaman complex was built with megalithic blocks, the transportation and erection of which continue to be a fascinating mystery. The Inti Raymi Sun Festival is re-enacted here every year on 24 June during the winter solstice. Continue on to Quenqo, located only four kilometres from the city of Cusco. Quenqo is an archaeological complex of mainly religious use where it is believed agricultural rituals were performed. Finally, visit Puka Pukara, located seven kilometres from the city of Cusco. Puka Pukara, meaning ‘Red Fortress’, was an architectural complex of alleged military use with multiple spaces, plazas, baths, aqueducts, walls and towers, and it is believed the entourage of the Inca ruler used the space while he rested in Tambomachay. Return to the hotel with the remainder of the day at leisure.

Day 5
Cusco, Peru
None Breakfast

After breakfast, start your day with a visit to Tipon, a perfectly preserved archaeological site located a stone’s throw from Cusco. Near the town of the same name stands an impressive colonial rural mansion dating back to 1650, 12 terraces that are still cultivated, and an irrigation system considered a masterpiece of hydraulic engineering still used by the neighbouring population. Next, continue to Pikillacta, considered one of the best preserved pre-Inca cities in Peru corresponding to the Wari culture, ancestor of the Incas. Among its 700 structures that cover more than 3,000 hectares are stone and mud buildings of two and three-story terraces and the head of a condor carved into a cliff. It is estimated that in this city, whose streets are still in use, was once inhabited by about 10,000 people. Finally, visit Andahuaylillas, a village located 40 kilometres from Cusco, whose most important attraction is the San Pedro de Andahuaylillas Church. Familiarlyknown as the ‘Sistine Chapel of America’ due to the high quality of the artwork found in its interior, the structure was built in the 16thcentury on the remains of probable Wari buildings. Today you can admirethe original pipe organ that has been recently restored. After, return to your hotel in Cusco.

Day 6

Just returned from our Peru adventure designed by Nora. Excellent trip by all accounts! We began in Lima where we received a very informative tour with Jenny which ended in one of our best meals (and our first Pisco Sour!) Onward to Cusco where we were met by 2 wonderful gentlemen both named Juan, our tour guide and his driver, who remained with us for the rest of our trip. We spent 3 wonderful days in Urubamba in wonderful accommodations. Here we had excellent tours and 2 excellent meals which were pre-arranged . Then on to Machu Pichu which was both incredible and challenging! Juan, our guide, was with us throughout. We found him to be well educated regarding his country and his culture, he was always thoughtful, informative, flexible, and above all reliable. We finished in Cusco at an amazing hotel. Every meal arranged by Nora was superior and our guides (especially Juan) made our trip tremendous. All accommodations were exceptional! Perfectly arranged trip!

In all fairness, we had 6 hours between flights and elected to take advantage by touring Lima. Our guide was young and relatively inexperienced. It was obvious from his tour that most of his comments were memorized from books and as such came across as "canned presentations". Had -rebooked dinner as part of the tour. We cancelled for two reasons...too tired and questionable as to the allotted amount of time for dinner and return to the airport given the traffic.

We spent a week in Cusco/Sacred Valley/Machu Picchu. Our hotels were fantastic and all arrangements were great. Our guide Kol and driver Joel were very pleasant and knowledgeable. In spite of strikes and delays along the way on multiple days, they were always on time and helped us manage our time so that we could see everything we would have liked to. Great arrangements all around.

Excellent tour operator. The guides and planning completed by Lima Tours was outstanding. They were able to accommodate our requests and fully fulfilled their tour obligations as presented. They were also able to make a change when one of our travelers became ill. I would not hesitate tin recommending Lima Tours to anyone. Only one small hurdle was due to a internal flight delay they did not have a person to greet/meet us in Cuzco to take us to our hotel. Fairly insignificant on a 21 day jam packed private vacation.
