Quiche is quite popular in many areas of the world, but St. Thomas gives it its own spin with the addition of mild-tasting codfish, along with a tasty side salad. A great twist on a classic dish.
Our next sample is Callaloo, a soup with its origins in West Africa. Traditionally served at Christmas and New Years, this dish is too tasty to keep under wraps. A savory combination of fish, pork or turkey, veggies and spices, it will be served alongside fungi (foon jee). Not to be confused with a fungus, this local specialty consists of cornmeal, salt and water, sometimes with okra added. Try it, you'll like it! At the same location, we'll taste that perennial Caribbean favorite...fresh, crispy conch fritters.
Mouth-watering meat pies have proven to be very popular here. We'll sample chicken, beef or fish. No matter which you taste, it is sure to be a hit.
When is a bakery more than just a bakery? When it has a dual purpose. Alongside moist coconut rum cake and other tasty baked treats, this non-profit organization serves up mentoring, job skills, education and job placement to the island's at-risk youth. Think of it as supporting their mission with every delicious bite.
A trip to the islands would not be complete without a signature drink, in this case, the Bushwacker. This frosty, creamy concoction of vodka, rum, Irish cream, Amaretto, Kahlua and coconut might just be the most delicious beverage you've ever tasted. Take note of the location, you'll be back after the tour for another.
