Wine and France are inextricably intertwined. A thread in the fabric of French life and culture, wine has helped shape France's history, gastronomy, and the urban landscape. On this 2.5 hour walk and tasting, we'll discuss the evolution of wine in France through history, the wine-making process, food and wine pairings, current trends, and tasting techniques while enjoying four different French wines.
Meeting in the 12th district of Paris, near the Aligré Market, our walk and tasting will take us to three locations. We'll start at a traditional bar à vin where we'll taste two classic French white wines. We'll learn about the dégustation, the art of tasting, and we'll explore the history of wine in France and its particular importance in Paris.
We'll then head to a charming bistro and further the discussion while tasting two French red wines. Here we'll also enjoy a plate of fromage or charcuterie and discover the basics of pairing French wine with food. We'll also discuss the influence of terroir, the dominant philosophy in French wine and cuisine.
To bring our evening full circle, we'll put our wine knowledge into practice at a local wine shop, a cave à vin, where we'll take an in-depth look at the wine regions of France, the art of reading French wine labels, and current trends in French wine-making.
Special Custom Tastings: For visitors looking for a unique experience, we can custom-design a private tasting to focus on a particular region or on lesser-known wines. We also have a luxury wine tasting experience in the Saint Germain area. Please specify this in your trip notes when booking and we will follow up with more details and pricing.
Please note any food allergies or intolerances in the Notes box when booking.
