Description

Naples is a complex, vibrant, and most of all, alive melting pot of epochs, cultures, and expressions. From its ancient Greek roots to the bustling metropolis it is today, Naples has had many guises and continues to play out its dramas, its gifts, its sorrows and exhilarating joys as if in a Baroque drama, where all of the inhabitants are actors in the ongoing spectacle. Due to its size and reputation, Naples can be a daunting place for a first time visitor–good advice and some insider tips and secrets will unveil an underbelly of this city that is not intimidating but, rather, welcoming, lively, and fascinating. Our Naples Welcome service is aimed at arming you with everything you need to know to have a spectacular stay in the city and to get the most out of its excellent cultural institutions, its delectable food scene, and its gregarious hospitality.

Includes:

- Informative PDF with city information - Recommendations and insider tips - Greeting service by Naples docent - 2 restaurant reservations - 15% discount on any bookings for private walks in Naples

Before arriving, we will send you an informative document, which will assist in acquainting yourselves with the city and will provide some key logistical information. Our team of docents, all Neapolitan natives, have offered up their favorite picks for lodging and dining in the Chiaia area of the city, which we find to be the best starting point for first time visitors, in terms of both services and ambience.

Upon arrival in the city (be it airport or train station), you will be met by one of our docents who will assist you in reaching your hotel and checking in. After dropping off your bags, we will sit down with you to go over your itinerary and answer any logistical questions you may have about using your time wisely. Armed with a detailed map and the document you previously received, we will go over any questions about getting around town, the best way to get from museum to museum and the best places to eat along the way. Two dining reservations are included in this service, so now is the time to pick the docent's brain for additional restaurant recommendations. If you are considering day trips or side trips from Naples (like Capri, Ischia or the Amalfi Coast), the docent will help you figure out the easiest and quickest way of getting where you need to go.

After this sit-down chat, we will head out into the city, in order to acclimate you to your surroundings. We will start off with the area immediately surrounding your hotel and then go further afar, perhaps heading in the direction of the historic waterfront port area or into the characteristic alleys of the Spaccanapoli district. Along the way, your docent will provide you with a synopsis of Naples' history and culture, which will better inform your further explorations during your stay.

This experience is part of our "Welcome To" series which aims to orient first-time visitors to Context cities.

Context Travel: One very good tour, one medium good tour

We had two tours, one entitled "Intro to HK: Colony to Financial Powerhouse" and the other "Kowloon Street Food Tour". The first had an architectural as well as historical framework, which was worthwhile, and our guide was very earnest and enthusiastic. We liked her very much. Our second tour, ostensibly a "Kowloon Street Food" got a little off track onto some political topics (reference is made in the description to discussing "local issues") but we made clear to our guide that we much preferred to spend our limited time checking out the street food and markets, and leaving politics and history aside. (Every guide prior to this had given us a similar capsule history of HK.) In fairness to our review of the guide, my wife and I were extremely tired by the time of our evening tour, and had to conclude the tour early, and we do not fault our guide in any way for our "running out of steam". Our guide was nice, though he made a couple of comments that might have been better left unsaid.

We were highly impressed with context tours. Each guide was very knowledgeable and the private group setting allowed us to really spend time and enjoy each site without feeling like we were part of a herd. Further, the guide is interactive, not just dictating into a radio with information.
