Your host spent 13 years as the sommelier at El Bulli, is distinguished with the 2006 Ruinart Price as Spain’s best sommelier, the 2011 National Gastronomy Award, and is a co-owner of Outlook Wine, a wine school in Barcelona.
Ferran will pick you up at your hotel and you will start the day at the Sant Josep Market, better known as "La Boqueria", in the heart of La Rambla Avenue.
The best way to experience its special atmosphere is to stroll around the stalls of fresh produce, meat and seafood, pop into the bars and restaurants, and let your senses take over to enjoy the mixture of sounds, aromas and flavors. You will, of course, sample many of the goodies the market has to offer with your host.
Next, you will leave the city to visit a top winery in Penedès, where you may choose sparkling or still wine production, depending on your tastes. Wines from this region are mainly young wines with an excellent bouquet; the whites are generally very fruity and crisp, while the reds are full-bodied, aromatic, and intense in color. Special mention should be made of cava, the region’s naturally produced sparkling wine with an unmistakable flavor. At your choice of one of three wineries set among medieval villages, you will learn about organic winemaking processes as the owners share their obsession with creating the perfect wine. After you’ve had your fill of wine education, you will be able to taste the products as you enjoy a traditional Catalan lunch.
