Embark on a special guided sightseeing focused on several artistic aspects of Lima, the "City of Kings". Begin with a visit to Lima's Historical Center stopping at the Plaza Mayor or Plaza de Armas, birthplace of the city of Lima, as well as the core of the city, surrounded by the Government Palace, Cathedral of Lima, Archbishop's Palace of Lima, the Municipal Palace, and the Palace of the Union.
Continue your visit to The Museum of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru, located in the city center some 3 blocks from the Main Plaza, formerly the headquarters of the Bank. It exhibits an archaeological collection with representations of all pre-Columbian cultures, a complete collection of republican paintings of the country, a valuable sample of Popular Art formed by objects of ceramics, painting and textiles and goldsmiths of artisans from various regions of Peru.The next stop is The Lima Art Museum or MALI (Museo de Arte de Lima) which holds the most representative art collection in Peru, tracing 3,000 years of history from the earliest Andean civilizations until modern times.
Known as the Exhibit Palace (Palacio de la Exposición), the building that is now home to the museum is located at the entrance of Lima’s historic center and is one of the earliest and most important works built using the new technique of cast-iron construction. MALI has an active program of temporary exhibitions throughout the year which covers the highlights of local and international art. The temporary exhibition galleries, as well as the Café MALI, store, auditorium, library and education area, are located on the first floor.
Then it is time to move to a quieter side of Lima, the picturesque district of Barranco which houses Lucia de La Puente Art Gallery. With over 20 years of experience, this gallery aim is to promote national and foreign renowned artists and to encourage the inclusion of young talents into the artistic circles, thereby contributing to the diffusion of contemporary art among an increasingly global audience and always committed to the development of cultural industries.In 2002, it settles in new headquarters, a historical declared monument house that underwent a complete restoration process, having a space of over 400 sqm for exhibition works, back room and a shop dedicated to art and design objects.
Today’s visit ends with a tour to MATE, a cultural institution specialized in the work of the world known photographer Mario Testino, who has created a cultural space in his hometown to exhibit his photographic work. Before even looking at the collection, you will be fascinated by the XIX century historical mansion of republican architecture restored by Testino, preserving its history and beauty. The landscaping of the entrance garden and the graceful porch with its original tiles are a unique introduction to the visit. Inside the house, modern technology ensures optimal viewing: seven rooms with climate-control and perfect lighting for Testino’s own photographs, as well as work from other Peruvian artists and even some musical performances. The gallery offers a variety of arty entertaining.
