I just wanted to share with you my feelings regarding the services provided by TOI.I was more than impressed to say the least. First of all because the guide was so knowledgeable and perfectly fluent in English (his name was Sochea) but also because he went the extra mile every time he could without asking for anything. I overheard several other guides during our visits and it's clear that what they were saying wasn't remotely as convincing and interesting as what Sochea told us. He truly should be recognized for his hard work and good mood. The driver was also very nice and kind (his name was Mony).Several persons at the hotel told me I made a stupid decision by paying 3/4 times more than what I should have for a guide compared to what the hotel could provide me with for instance but I don't regret it at all and it was worth every cent.

This is the best tour company I have ever used.  All of the guides that we had were outstanding.  Most everything worked like clockwork.  There were only two glitches.  When we arrived in Phnom Pehh, our guide and driver did not show up.  It turned out that our driver had been in an  accident.  The man who answered the phone did come to pick us up.  However, when the office learned about the accident, they should have sent someone to meet us.  The hotel we stayed in in Phnom Penn was not satisfactory.  It was  the Amanjaya Hotel. We were not met when we arrived was in Luang Prabang. Maybe it  was not their fault. Our plane arrived one hour early but they should have checked.  The Karavansara Retreat hotel was not acceptable. All the other hotels were outstanding. I especially want to commend Hau David, our tour guide in  Hoi An and Hue. He was the best guide we have ever had.

Overall, the guides were excellent. They were very knowledgeable and insightful. They answered any questions we had. They did not rush us and allowed us to take as much time admiring and taking pictures as we wanted. The Junk Boat ride was one of my favorite part of the tour. The lunch on board was great and staff was also really good. I would do it all over again.

We had the BEST guides in Thailand. They were helpful and professional, but not pushy or annoying. Every one of our adventures was amazing (except the trip to Koh Tao, only because it was dreadfully touristy) All in all Trails of Indochina will be my recommendation to all my other friends that are soon to be married! 10 out of 10 well done!

I'm not sure how much they helped with my trip. I did all the tour research and found all the "must do" things to do. Only used them to save $100 on the hotel room. They saved me a little bit on the hotel booking but their tours were really expensive versus just booking direct. Better deals online if you spend the time researching.

Friendly Service

Overall, our experience was a great one. The drivers, tour guides, etc were all there to pick us up and get us to where we were going and everyone was extremely friendly and outgoing. We did have a minor issue with a few additional charges that we were given and we were not told (at all) that any of them would have been an extra charge. Additionally, our tour guide in Bali seemed to be really pushing us to sign on to additional tours with him on days that we had chosen to be on our own. Our experience on Lombok was top-notch, however in Bali, the tour guides were much more chatty with what seemed their prescribed talk and not so attentive to specific questions that we had. Additionally, when we were picked up for our bike tour, the guide asked to see our itinerary, as he had no idea what we were supposed to be doing. We ended up not doing a number of activities outlined on the itinerary and instead just did what the guide wanted to do. We had a great time, but these were concerns.

Three countries, three different guides and drivers, and not one that wasn't perfect. They all spoke very good English. They were able to adapt to changes in planned itinerary due to sudden physical limitation. They were courteous and thoughtful. Everyone was were they were supposed to be when they were supposed to be. What more can you ask for when you get off a plane in a strange country after flying for hours and hours, but to see a smiling face, ready to take you and your luggage to your hotel and make you feel comfortable with a cool towel and water? Sure you can go out of the airport, grab and cab and fight over the fare for less money, but is it really worth it to start your holiday like that? Trails is a truly professional organization that I would not hesitate to recommend.

We planned a 15-day trip for Vietnam and Cambodia using Trails of Indochina as the local agency. From start to finish it was a marvelous trip. Trails proved invaluable when we were delayed and missed a connection. Somehow they found us seats on overbooked flights that the local airline agent hadn't been able to find. This literally saved our trip. The itinerary in both countries was interesting, hitting all the high spots that the time allowed. The local guides spoke excellent English and were incredibly knowledgeable and hospitable. They and the drivers went out of their way to make sure that we were comfortable and well cared for. Our hotels were premium accommodations throughout: clean, comfortable, luxurious rooms; wonderful breakfasts; smiling, caring, and sweet staff. Because everything was made so easy for us and so very pleasant, I felt like I could have stayed forever and was very sorry to head for home. Thanks for a trip of a lifetime!

Had a truly great time seeing Hanoi and then spending two nights in Ha Long Bay on a terrific boat. In Hanoi we were picked up in a vintage Army surplus Jeep and treated to some of the local eateries where no tourist could find on their own. We traveled into the old part of the city and experienced some of best food and sights! The hotel was also amazing. Very comfortable and a breakfast that had three different stations. Wow! We then went to Ha Long Bay and spent three days/two nights seeing this amazing placed--named a Wonder of the World in 2011. We had an 80 foot boat to ourselves with seven crew members taking care of our every wish! W bought a huge fish as the fishing village and the crew cooked it to perfection for us. Amazing nights on the deck sipping white wine under the stars. Tour guides were incredible. Loved having the high customer service and care from the tour operators.

We were really impressed with the accommodations and experiences that Trails provided. We had terrific guides that were knowledgeable and seemed to be as interested in us as we were with them and the places we visited. If there is a minor grumble, it is the night on the boat in Hanoi Bay. We don’t have an answer/solution, but there might be a better way to go about it than a 3+ hour ride to the boat, a short stay on the boat, and then a 3+ hour ride to the airport. It made it feel like the ‘forced march’ part of our trip. In addition, it would be nice if the delivering guide held on to your large suitcases while you are on the bay; the rooms are small! The Killing Field and S-21 are a tough pill, but it does give you a history that most Americans simply are under educated about. Overall, we highly recommend Trails and enjoyed our trip! -J*G

Bangkok and Chiang Mai

Reviewed on: 17 Feb 2018

This was a good tour company, provided excellent guides, drivers, and lovely comfortable vans. We saw some wonderful sites and had some lovely experiences. We especially loved the elephant sanctuary, the cooking class near Chiang Mai, and the White Temple at Chiang Rai. Our only criticism was the 4 hour ride to the Golden Triangle on our last day. Not much to see there, we could have looked at pictures and saved several hours in the van. It was a big disappointment, and not worth the very long ride. (It took 5 hours to get back to our hotel) We would also have been happy to skip the visit to the tourist-trap at the Myanmar border, and the "traditional village", where we were accosted by the locals trying to sell us junk. We would not recommend this to anyone! The visit to Chiang Rai was lovely, and worth the two hour ride, but we wish our guide had given us a clue that the second part of the day was just a waste of time. Overall though, the rest of the trip was great!

Mixed bag

It really WAS a mixed bag. Some of the printed info about tours was inaccurate or misleading. Communications were not always great. We were supposed to have 2 days in one destination, but ended up having significantly less. Had we known a bit earlier, we might have made some changes. But there was a lot of confusion and it really impacted what should have been a great time. A whole day was compressed in to a few hours, and we were really limited in what we could do.

Our journey on the Angkor Pandaw was above expectations. The accommodation, food and service were excellent. It took a little while for us to get used to the rubbish in the river and the countryside and the extent of industrialisation along the river however it helped us to better understand the country. All the tours off the boat were interesting and enhanced by our guide. The only disappointment was after we left the boat for the return by bus to Hanoi. The stopover for lunch was a low quality tourist trap with poor quality food and service and was a "letdown" after our boat experience. All our fellow travellers were of the same opinion. It would have been better to have some boxed food from the boat to eat and toilet stop only.
