Day 2
Bilbao, Spain
Gran Hotel Domine Bilbao Breakfast

Spend the morning at leisure before your driver picks you up to take you north to Plentzia, where you will visit the world´s first undersea winery. Tour the laboratory, learn all about the innovative project and taste some of their products along with local pintxos. Once the tour has finished, you will head back to Bilbao to enjoy the city at night.

Day 3
San Sebastian, Spain
Hotel Maria Cristina, a Luxury Collection Hotel, San Sebastian Breakfast

It´s time to say goodbye to Bilbao and move on to its glamorous sister, San Sebastian. Your driver will take you straight to the Basque Culinary Center for a private tasting of local olives, olive oils, sausages, ham and wine accompanied by one of the teachers from the center. Next, transfer to the city center to check into your hotel before a night of pintxo-hopping with your local host to get to know the classic bites of the city.

Day 4
San Sebastian, Spain
Hotel Maria Cristina, a Luxury Collection Hotel, San Sebastian Breakfast, Dinner

Explore San Sebastian this morning with your expert guide, wandering through the Old Quarter and the more modern parts of the city, learning all about its history and local culture. In the evening, you will be treated to a private dinner in the “secret” kitchen of a Michelinstarred restaurant. The chefs will prepare a special menu just for you in front of your eyes, making it a once-in-a-lifetime way to experience the Basque cuisine.

Day 5
Elciego, Spain
Hotel Marques de Riscal, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Elciego Breakfast, Lunch

Check out of your hotel and hop in the car to go south to the La Rioja wine country. Your first destination is a Michelin-starred restaurant hidden in a tiny Rioja town, where you will enjoy a local aperitif and help the chef collect some seasonal ingredients to help prepare your meal. Enjoy a fabulous lunch straight from the garden, with a wine pairing, of course!

Day 6
Elciego, Spain
Hotel Marques de Riscal, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Elciego Breakfast

It’s time to get to know the famous wineries of La Rioja. Today you will visit three of our favorites, sipping on their products and learning about the process used to make some of the best wines in the world. You will also enjoy a gastronomic experience with a fabulous lunch and wine pairing at a top wine hotel. Stop in Laguardia on your way back to the hotel to experience the stunning architecture of the Ysios winery.

Day 7
Barcelona, Spain
Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona Breakfast, Dinner

Take the train to Barcelona where your driver will pick you up and whisk you off to your new hotel. Once you’ve recovered your energies, head out for a traditional Catalan cooking lesson where you will prepare a three-course dinner to enjoy paired with fine Spanish wines.

Day 8
Barcelona, Spain
Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona Breakfast, Dinner

Get to know the best of Barcelona on a walking tour with your local expert guide. Visit the Sagrada Familia, Paseo de Gracia, the Historical Quarter, Santa Maria del Mar church and the Picasso Museum. The day will end with a food and lifestyle experience as two local couples will invite you to a “moveable feast” with a homemade dinner in their charming apartments. This is a fantastic opportunity to get to know how local foodies enjoy their city.

Day 9
Barcelona, Spain
Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona Breakfast, Lunch

Meet your driver in the lobby to go to the Penedés wine region where you will visit a local wine cellar and taste three wines accompanied by a lunch made of local products and some cava. This is a delicious way to spend your last day in Spain, in the Catalan countryside!

Day 10
Barcelona, Spain
None Breakfast

Meet your driver for a private transfer to the airport to catch your departing flight. Buen viaje!

The Way to Go!!!

Made for Spain: The best day of our entire trip was spent in Lisbon!!! We had a wonderful guide and driver. We really got to see Lisbon; its tiny narrow cobblestoned streets; a beautiful church and cloister and we even had time for lunch in a beer garden. Our guide was full of information...not just ordinary things..but a tremendous knowledge of history, art, etc. What a great day. Also, for our other three tours, in every single situation, the driver or the guide, usually the driver, assisted my husband (who uses a wheelchair) in getting in and out of the van. The drivers and guides were kind, informative, and willing to assist my husband in any way that they could.

Made for Spain connected us with personable, experienced and fun guides and drivers. They were readily available via email and phone to make on-the-spot reservations and recommendations for (wonderful) restaurants during our trip - especially helpful since we did not speak the language. Everything they provided and planned for us was fun and high quality. Could not recommend them more highly.

We had two separate guides over two days. Both of them were excellent. We had one guide for the first two days (Marta Roige) and another one (Carlos Perez) on the third day. The first two days were a whirlwind (in a good way) of sight seeing and visiting various attractions. On the third day, we were having trouble remembering what we saw the first two days. We remembered the bigger sites easily, Basilica of the Sagrada Familia, Palau de la Musica Orfeo Catala, etc. However, Barcelona is peppered with so many Gaudi attractions, it was hard to remember which ones we had been to. Our second guide called our first guide to make sure he did not duplicate what we had seen in the first two days. He did not disappoint us and took us to sights we had not seen the previous two days. We enjoyed both guides greatly. The cars that the tour agency used were clean and well appointed; the drivers were courteous and helpful. I would use again and recommend Made of Spain and Portugal

We had Made for Spain guides meet us in several cities and it was really worth the time and money. Their English was really good and they all had advanced degrees in the subjects they were telling us about. Very kind-no question is stupid-and great tips for the rest of our time in their city. We would use them again and probably book a longer tour.

A Great Tour Guide Can Bring Attractions to Life

In addition to the airport arrival pick-up, Made for Spain organized a 1.5 day private tour of Barcelona & Surrounding Attractions to align with our interests. Although their services are pricy, their selection of a tour guide for us was completely on the mark! We had expressed an interest in history, architecture and developing a better understanding of the Catalonian culture. Our guide, Carles, did a superior job in accomplishing his mission for our day and a half.

The guides were local experts who spoke flawless English. One of the recommendations our guide made for lunch (a tiny restaurant with 8 tables!) was the best meal we had on the trip! All the car service was late model Mercedes sedans (very comfortable) and drivers and guides all showed up early. A+ service

Almost all of the arrangements made in Spain were seamless, guides and experiences incredible and memorable, pick ups, transfers, etc (with the exception of missing the timing of the car p/u to airport travel Barcelona to Seville). We LOVED Hotel Magestic - location, service, tradition - but the hotel in Seville I would not recommend to anyone traveling at our level of expense or experience. Tour groups in and out. Asphyxiating aroma throughout. Guide in Barcelona energetic and adventurous. Gave us a true Gaudi perspective. Cooking experience lovely/homey with the mother/daughter and appreciated the market education. Daughter is special. We were surprised how much we enjoyed Seville - walking tour upon arrival a great idea - a walking city which we enjoyed exploring on our own. AMELIA is a gem - on all levels. What a treat! But cooking paella twice (though from different regions) not creative for us. Loved that Amelia had a map of spain to educate us about where/how/why cuisine evolv

Portugal in Luxury

For a special occasion, McCabe suggested that they work with Made for Spain and Portugal (MfSP) to design a luxury two week trip to Portugal, a much fancier trip than we had taken before. MfSP provided an excellent initial proposal, which It then refined with McCabe to meet our specific desires. The trip was everything we desired. MfSP was superb, providing detailed itineraries, comprehensive background materials, and 24- hour support. The guides and drivers provided by MfSP were all excellent and more than met our requirements. (It was a great treat to have private guides and drivers.) When some small things went wrong (none of them the fault of MfSP), MfSP took full charge of sorting them out, leaving us free to enjoy our vacation. We truly enjoyed Portugal. The MfSP trip covered a lot of ground, but included time for play. We found Portugal to be beautiful, the people to be warm and embracing, and the food and wine to be excellent beyond all our expectations.

Portugal a work in progress?

We have used Made for Spain and Portugal before-on a trip to Spain in the summer of 2017. We loved them and felt that they did a wonderful job in Spain. We enjoyed the included breakfasts, frequent complimentary upgrades, excellent guides, and brand recognition. Our trip to Portugal was a bit different. We still enjoyed included breakfasts and amazing guides (except for Sintra), but felt there wasn't the brand recognition in most of Portugal. I guess we got spoiled in Spain. The exception to this was the Pousada in Lisbon where we had amazing rooms on the top floor.

Other than we were not picked up at airport, we had a great experience The guides were particularly good, especially the Prado and gardens guides We didn’t particularly like the location of our hotel in Madrid, given it was quite a walk from the old town The Liria palace tour was great, although we had some difficulty locating the entrance. We finally found our guide after being questioned by security outside of the gates entrance. Some better direction there would have been helpful Our driver in Barcelona was great! Personable and friendly!
