Itinerary

DAY LOCATION(S) HOTEL MEALS DESCRIPTION
Day 1
Berlin, Germany
None Lunch, Dinner, Snack

Meet the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train in Berlin.

Shortly after departing, enjoy a three-course lunch in one of the beautifully restored restaurant cars.

Pass by cities including Wuppertal, where you glide alongside the famous Suspension Monorail. Dating from 1901, you may be able to spot its historic red Kaiser’s carriage.

Let the hours slip by as you watch the changing scenery from your observation window. Afternoon tea is served in your cabin.

Dress to impress and head to the restaurant for a stunning four-course dinner.

The train passes Cologne Cathedral and then moves into the stunning scenery of the Rhine river gorge. Glimpse cliffside castles as you pass the Lorelei, where a mythical siren lured sailors into the depths. Keep your eyes peeled for the boat-shaped, 14th-century Pfalzgrafenstein Castle perched on an island.

After dinner, trade stories with fellow travellers in the Bar Car before you retire to your cabin.

Day 2
Paris, France
None Breakfast

Breakfast is served in your cabin by your steward at a time to suit you. Raise your blinds to admire green vineyards as you pass through the grand Champagne town of Epernay.

The train pulls into Paris Gare de l’Est, where you depart for your onward travel arrangements.

The Orient Express- All that you can imagine it is.

By: John from NJ

Reviewed on: 20 Nov 2013

Our travel on the Orient Express earlier this year was its initial run from Stockholm to Copenhagen, WE had previously ridden its classic run from Paris to Venice in previous years. The carriages are classics, the service impeccable, the food wonderful. If you are wondering if its just like its depicted in the movies it is !

Great Tour

Our tour from Lima to Cusco to Machu Picchu and back was very good.  Had a wonderful guide, Luis (Dias I think).  Very informative and passionate about his topic.  Arrangements--hotels and train--were very good.  A complaint would be that hotel rooms assigned to us were with 2 beds rather than a double.  We had to upgrade to get that.  We prefer to travel as the couple we are and were never asked in advance about our preference for such arrangements.  (And I'm not aware of any Virtuoso Amenities)

Belmond Grand Hibernian

By: Amanda

Reviewed on: 31 Jul 2017

We had a lovely time on the Belmond Grand Hibernian. The staff was excellent and the food was incredible. It was a low-stress way to see Ireland (no driving) and the spots selected for each day trip were great. For future travelers I would recommend: if you're on the youngish side of things (we are in our early 40s), I'd bring friends -- the train is pretty much quiet by 10pm after dinner, so we really enjoyed have friends with us to play cards and talk in the bar car at the end of the evening. Also, the trip isn't one continuous loop around Ireland - you do some back tracking each day - it's fine but doesn't give you the feeling of seeing "new" countryside with each leg of the journey.
