Driving through this historic city we pass by the Zappion garden - Hadrian's Arch - Temple of Olympian Zeus - Anglican Church - St Nikodimos Byzantine Church - National Garden - Tomb of the Unknown Soldier – The Houses of Parliament - Schliemann's House - the Academy - The University - The National Library - The Ex Royal Palace (guarded by the Evzones) - Panathinaikon Stadium, where the first Olympic Games of modern times were held - Theatre of Dionysus.

Continue with a visit to the Acropolis, the most significant reference point of ancient Greek culture, as well as the symbol of the city of Athens itself. Visit the Parthenon, the most famous monument in the Acropolis, temple dedicated to Goddess Athena, the Erechtheion with its famous Caryatids porch, the Propylaia, monumental entrance gate.

We continue to Plaka the neighbourhood of the Gods as Greeks and foreigners alike have dubbed it, singing its praises. Plaka is for Athens what Covent Gardens is for London or Montmartre for Paris. Located on the north-eastern slopes of the rock of the Acropolis, Plaka was the center of Athens even in antiquity.

On to Monastiraki Square which lies at the end of Pandrosou Street. According to one account it owes its name to the church of the Panagia (Vergin Mary) there, which is a monastic estate of the Kaisariani Monastery whose medieval name was the Great Monastery. Next to it, is the electric train station that joins Piraeus to Kifissia. Today Monastiraki is a true fair for one who strolls through it. Thousands and thousands of things are for sale. You can find everything there!

We will indulge in our taste trip through Plaka with:

Greek Traditional Coffee- Taste your very own Greek coffee in a traditional cafe in Plaka. “Kompoloi” (worry beads) making- While drinking your coffee you will get the chance to make your own “Komboloi”, which is a Greek fidget toy, used to relieve stress and generally pass the time. “Komboloi” worry beads resemble prayer beads, but, unlike them, bear no religious significance. They are merely an instrument of relaxation and stress management. “Souvlaki” – Enjoy and taste! the traditional Greek souvlaki with meat – pita – tzatziki or whichever version feats your personal taste

Our family just returned from an amazing trip to Greece.  We traveled with our two children, ages 11 and 7. Mariza Anyfanti, tour guide and archaeologist, accompanied us for a half day tour of Athens and a 3 day trip to Meteora and Delphi.  We were highly impressed with the type of service that Mariza provided for our family.  She is an expert in her field and loves what she does. She was professional, punctual, kind to our children, and very knowledgeable on every single place we visited. We could not have asked for a better tour guide. Our driver, Yiannis, showed the same type of professionalism. He was courteous, kind, always on time and flexible to our needs since we had two children with us. His car was impeccable and he had water, etc readily available if needed. He knew the area we traveled to very well and was able to point out many places of interest because of his experience in traveling the area. We would highly recommend Mariza and Yiannis.

Hellenic Tours did a great job working with our travel agent in the States to plan a great first trip to Greece. In each stop we were greeted with either a welcome packet from Hellenic Tours or a friendly face to give us an overview of our stay.
