As the helicopter gently rises, the coastal area of Hawke's Bay becomes visible, with views of Mahia's sandy coves, rocky bays and crashing surf. Above Cape Kidnappers, you'll see their famous golf course, perched high on a cliff, as well as one of the largest Australasian gannet colonies in the world. These beautiful birds, with their golden heads, blue eye rings and blue-gray beaks are known for their dramatic airborne dives as they fish for their dinner.
Next up is a view of Te Mata Peak. At over 1,300 feet, it is one of the most recognizable places in the Hawke's Bay area and an important symbol of both Maori and European history. Soaring over Havelock North and Hastings, the expanse of vineyards and orchards below reveal their lush beauty. Finally, before landing back at Napier, you'll take in views of Bluff Hill and Westshore Beach.
