The 'who' is your marine biologist naturalist guide, a person who is imbedded in marine life here and knows the ins and outs of seasons and tides. As nearly all the snorkeling in the keys is best by boat, you will board your vessel with your guide and head for two different reef locations in the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary. There is virtually no beach or shore access to those locations that deliver. The healthy reefs with lots of fish are located from one to eight miles offshore.
Here all life is protected, and your guide will help you identify many of the folks swimming by. Bonnethead sharks, barracudas, nurse sharks, southern stingrays, spotted eagle rays, manatees, sea turtles, tarpon, dolphins (!) and a vast array of colorful schools of fish that swim past you.
If you are not a pro at the art of the snorkel, no worries! Your guide will be there with the experience to help make you an expert.
