Description

The Great Chicago Fire of 1871 destroyed an area of the city 4 miles long and 1 mile wide, including much of the downtown area. But from this tragedy came a period of economic growth and architectural innovation. Thus Chicago came to be known as the birthplace of the skyscraper. Today the skyline is filled with striking examples of both traditional and modern architecture, including such famous buildings as the Willis Tower, Tribune Tower and the Chicago Water Tower. You'll see those and more as your guide directs your attention from one fabulous building to the next. And no visit to downtown would be complete without a stop at Millennium Park to marvel at the famous sculpture Cloud Gate, affectionately known as "The Bean".

Just north of downtown, nestled along the beautiful shoreline of Lake Michigan, is Chicago's "Gold Coast". Here, Chicago's wealthiest residents built fabulous mansions. Now, upscale shops and residential towers mingle with the opulent homes of earlier times.

A stop at the Three Arts Club Cafe for lunch is sure to please with its mix of Northern California and Mediterranean cuisine.

The Old Town neighborhood is aptly named, as it one of the areas unaffected by the fire. The homes range from modest to impressive with an eclectic mix of residents as well.

Quiet tree-lined streets, historic churches and charming row houses typify Lincoln Park. This lovely green respite from the urban scene is home to the Lincoln Park Zoo and DePaul University.

Chicagoans love their "Cubbies" (The Chicago Cubs professional baseball team), especially after they won the World Series in 2016, breaking a losing streak of 108 years. Wrigley Field is their home and many fans make the pilgrimage to visit this special place.

We'll now head to Logan Square, saved by preservationists in the 1960's. Dive bars coexists next to artisanal cocktail lounges and the streets are dotted with restored mansions and majestic churches.

The Wicker Park Historic District is a funky mix of resale shops, live music venues and high-end boutiques, making this a really fun place to visit.

We'll explore the West Loop, a former warehouse district that has been transformed into loft apartments and trendy art galleries as well as a stop at Greek Town and Randolph Street, known as "Restaurant Row".

Lastly, we'll drive through the South Loop neighborhood, perhaps one of Chicago's favorite areas for locals and visitors alike. Contained within is the Museum Campus, where you'll find the Field Museum, the Adler Planetarium and the Shedd Aquarium, all worthy of your time. Soldier Field, home to the Chicago Bears professional football team and McCormick Place, the largest convention center in the country, round out the attractions.

In Cozumel we enjoyed the snorkeling that we did off a catamaran. The staff was friendly, very professional, and helpful with my first time snorkeling daughter. Grand Cayman we went to sting ray city with a trip and snorkeling. Staff and trip was amazing, crew very helpful and fun. in Jamaica we did a Dunn's River Falls excursion and private beach. We had fun but were not impressed with the staff, and their timeliness (waited around alot),

MOSTLY EXCEPTIONAL

We did a private whale watching tour which was incredible. The train ride in Sitka which we were not going to do at first was spectacular. Scenery, comfort - a wonderful way to see the area and spend our time. We signed up for a Mendenhall Glacier trip plus Salmon bake. This one was so very commercial and although the glacier and waterfall were above our expectations, a short time was given to walk there and view. This left out two of our party as they could not move as fast as needed to return in the time frame of one hour. Then the BAKE- the food was marginally ok. They were out of the most important SMORES ingredients. It is crazy but that was advertised (we were willing to break our diets ) and we looked forward to them and then disappointed. The people were nice. the area was pretty but that one I would strongly advise friend not to sign up for.

Summer Hawaii Cruise

By: CGreene

I arranged a church group of 55 for a Hawaiian cruise. This was our first time to use ShoreTrips and we had VIP treatment as compared to the mega busloads arriving from the ship/hotels excursions. Many times we had a site all to ourselves and then were leaving when the larger groups arrived. With all of the excitement about the active volcano, we weren't sure what to expect when we arrived on the Big Island. Those taking the helicopter ride raved about the experience and others were amazed to truly explore, taste and see that there is much more to her than only the volcanos. Every guide was lovely and professional, in fact, when I asked my group of to each submit 2 of their personal favorite photos, one was a guide on the last day in Honolulu for the private Pearl Harbor/airport excursion. It was nice to choose a selection of excursions for my group and ShoreTrips truly worked hard to make every trip come to fruition. Highly recommend all types of excursions with them.
