Flying this route is a highly rewarding experience. From the sky you will see the sparely populated southern coast dotted with occasional towns which speak to Arctic character. Sandy bays, green meadows, lava fields mostly bare of vegetation will follow you as you head for the peninsula.
The high point, the snow-capped volcanic cone of the Snaefellsjokull is located at the tip of the peninsula, which is dotted with spots and beautiful hideaways as well as fishing villages. In less than 2 hours you will be able to see more from the air than it is possible to imagine by highway, and it is extremely impressive to experience.
It is still difficult to understand how these glaciers act as housing for active volcanoes but that mystery alone is incredible to imagine. No doubt you will feel the supernatural powers when flying over the cap as many have, almost a cleansing of those parts of the past you wish to forget so you can move on.
