Depending on which day you visit, you will see either the romantic Pena National Palace or the Sintra National Palace. The magical hilltop Pena Palace sits high above Sintra and was built in the 19th century by Prince Ferdinand. The Sintra Palace dates back to Moorish times, but most of what you see is from the 15th century. It is the oldest surviving palace in Portugal and is still used for official receptions. You may also visit the Palácio de Queluz, which is a monument.
Your journey continues to Cascais. Once just a small fishing village, this town managed to maintain its seafaring traditions while melding with the aristocratic and royal presences of the late 19th and early 20th century. Passing through its animated town center, you’ll find the cosmopolitan life side-by-side with the Atlantic. From this area you'll also have a great view of the Estoril Casino and its gardens. Enjoy a scenic drive along the coastal road of Estoril, one of the most beautiful and charming itineraries of all the Lisbon surroundings.
You have some flexibility with this day, so you can choose to visit a couple of other stops of your choice. Some suggestions are the Colares Wine-Cellar, the cellars of a precious wine in risk of extinction; or Quinta da Regaleira, built at the end of the 19th century, which is formed by a palace, a chapel, and gardens with grottos, wells, and subterranean areas. You may choose to spend some quality time on a terrace by the sea, in Cascais or in Guincho, watching the sunset. Another possibility is to spend the remaining time visiting the commercial area of Cascais. Your driver will help you determine which you would enjoy most.
