Next on the agenda is Girdwood, a center of winter activities all year round. It is a small community anchored by the wonderful Alyeska Hotel, which is also the location of the aerial tramway up Mt. Alyeska! At the top, your tour guide will show you around and tell you about the area and the exhibits in the Roundhouse Museum. From the viewing decks and Roundhouse at Mt. Alyeska, you can see several glaciers, as well as the Turnagain Arm and the northern-most temperate rainforest. After descending the tram, lunch is included at our favorite Bake Shop - bottomless soup, sourdough bread, beverages, and dessert will fill you up for the day!
After lunch, you’ll continue on to the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, a rescue and rehabilitation organization for injured and orphaned animals. There you'll visit with orphaned bears, injured eagles, families of elk and bison, and many other Alaskan wild animals. Keep your camera handy. The baby animals are as cute as buttons!
This tour is one way to assure yourself that wildlife and animals will be part of your Alaskan experience, even in spring!
