Just to find your comfort level, the ride begins along a bike path that runs through the Willard Beach community, one of the loveliest areas of the outlying city. Listening as well as following your guide, you will soon find yourself at the Bug Light entrance to the Portland Breakwater, where you will take a break from biking and explore the lighthouse. Take in the great views while you hear about the liberty ships built during the second World War before moving on to another inspiring location.
Next you will approach to the Spring Point Lighthouse, the Portland Harbor Museum and Fort Preble, all wonderful symbols that immortalize this area and its importance along the Eastern coast of our country. Moving between our history and the sweet communities that have developed around these sites delivers a wonderful context for this bike ride.
Continuing on, you will pass through a beautiful beachfront community on your approach to Shore Road, one of Portland's most exclusive addresses. The wonderful access by bike allows you to soak in the area with a little more personal message than if you were to drive it.
Portland Head Light, one of the most famous of the lighthouses, is your next goal and here you will stop and take in another of Portland's claim to fame, the lobster roll. Enjoy while you relax and absorb the ocean view, which creates a lasting memory for this day. But you are not yet done, as there is one more lighthouse to view, and to reach it, you will cycle past the saltwater farms to 2 Lights State Park and the favorite, Kettle Cove.
Counting back, you saw 5 lighthouses with great narration, had a lobster roll and worked off those calories in the most pleasant way!
