Description

The serene city of Hue straddles the Perfume River, which has been given UNESCO World Heritage Site status. On the Western Bank of the river is the vast Imperial City, which housed generations of the country's emperors, and inside this complex is the Purple Forbidden City, the private imperial enclosure.

Your ride from Da Nang is one of lovely scenery. Small villages, rice paddies, old stores, a relic of a train, and oxen bathing in the river will most likely be some of the views you will have during your ride

During your ride you will learn how Hue served as an imperial capital to the Nguyen Lords, a feudal dynasty which reigned from the 17th to the 19th century. The remains of the Citadel with its splendid emperors' tombs, ancient pagodas and the remains of the Citadel itself, will easily bring you back to the past. Beginning with a 10 minute cyclo ride to the Imperial Citadel, which is also a listed UNESCO site, which will give you a bird's eye view of life in Hue today.

Along with your guide, you will enter through the gardens while hearing about the events and the intrigue of the former royal court. This area was heavily bombed yet some incredibly well preserved sections still stand intact and others are being restored.

Your next stop if time permits will be the Thien Mu Pagoda, was built in 1601 by the governor of the city after an old woman appeared to him and told him of the city's supernatural significance. It is still inhabited by Buddhist monks and novices. Among the many stories and tales, one is true about the first monk to commit self-immolation and the car remains in the temple garden.

Lunch will be at one of the best restaurants in the city - and it will be followed by a drive to the elaborate Khai Dink Royal Tomb. From the outside the tomb looks weathered and ordinary, though very large. You will be stunned by the richly decorated interiors loaded with ornate murals and mosaic scenes created with fragments of porcelain.

More questions about what you have seen in Hue will come to you as you return to Da Nang to reboard your ship. The different time of day on your return will bring you a totally new scene of rural life.

In Cozumel we enjoyed the snorkeling that we did off a catamaran. The staff was friendly, very professional, and helpful with my first time snorkeling daughter. Grand Cayman we went to sting ray city with a trip and snorkeling. Staff and trip was amazing, crew very helpful and fun. in Jamaica we did a Dunn's River Falls excursion and private beach. We had fun but were not impressed with the staff, and their timeliness (waited around alot),

We did a private whale watching tour which was incredible. The train ride in Sitka which we were not going to do at first was spectacular. Scenery, comfort - a wonderful way to see the area and spend our time. We signed up for a Mendenhall Glacier trip plus Salmon bake. This one was so very commercial and although the glacier and waterfall were above our expectations, a short time was given to walk there and view. This left out two of our party as they could not move as fast as needed to return in the time frame of one hour. Then the BAKE- the food was marginally ok. They were out of the most important SMORES ingredients. It is crazy but that was advertised (we were willing to break our diets ) and we looked forward to them and then disappointed. The people were nice. the area was pretty but that one I would strongly advise friend not to sign up for.

Great experience. The tours of the Louvre, and Notrre Dame were great. The guide even helped me try to get Eiffel tower admission tickets switched after I had booked them on the wrong date.
