Description

Christchurch represents a city recovering from a natural disaster that in February of 2011 claimed 185 lives and left 10,000 buildings unsalvageable. This devastating natural disaster rallied the city and country together in order to rebuild for the 580,000 residents of the greater Christchurch region. On this small group tour, you will explore Christchurch's actions of recovery that have left the residents energized and assisted them in getting back to living life as normal New Zealander.

With a pickup at the pier, you will venture out of Akaroa and up into the hills above the city. Your first stop will be at Robinson's Bay Lookout for incredible views of the harbor you just came into. If everyone has told you that New Zealand has the best views in the world, then this is a spot that proves it. Another stop, at the Summit Road Lookout, hits that point home one more time!

While arriving into Christchurch, the "Garden City" of New Zealand, you will see the 46 billion dollar rebuild process in full force. Everywhere you turn there are signs of Christchurch's past intertwined with its plans for the future. You will pass through old neighborhoods that are now just patches of grass and into new neighborhoods that have sprung up in relocation efforts from areas that were once deemed "unlivable." Brand new buildings, crumbled buildings, and buildings currently being reinforced can be seen scattered throughout the city center.

The Re-Start Mall and Christchurch Botanic Gardens are a couple of the local's favorites within the city. The Re-Start shopping area was a quirky morale booster constructed by using shipping containers as storefronts for cafes and retail shops. This area provided residents a spot to escape the impact of the earthquake and come together at a central spot for entertainment. People loved it so much that it continues to be one of the most trafficked areas in the city. A stroll through the Botanic Gardens will make you feel as if you are no longer in the city and realize why it's the best botanic display in the entire country. Over 100 different varieties of roses are on display and that is only a fraction of what you'll see. Soak in the smells!

A drive back to the port will provide even more views on the day best spent from Akaroa.

In Cozumel we enjoyed the snorkeling that we did off a catamaran. The staff was friendly, very professional, and helpful with my first time snorkeling daughter. Grand Cayman we went to sting ray city with a trip and snorkeling. Staff and trip was amazing, crew very helpful and fun. in Jamaica we did a Dunn's River Falls excursion and private beach. We had fun but were not impressed with the staff, and their timeliness (waited around alot),

MOSTLY EXCEPTIONAL

We did a private whale watching tour which was incredible. The train ride in Sitka which we were not going to do at first was spectacular. Scenery, comfort - a wonderful way to see the area and spend our time. We signed up for a Mendenhall Glacier trip plus Salmon bake. This one was so very commercial and although the glacier and waterfall were above our expectations, a short time was given to walk there and view. This left out two of our party as they could not move as fast as needed to return in the time frame of one hour. Then the BAKE- the food was marginally ok. They were out of the most important SMORES ingredients. It is crazy but that was advertised (we were willing to break our diets ) and we looked forward to them and then disappointed. The people were nice. the area was pretty but that one I would strongly advise friend not to sign up for.

Summer Hawaii Cruise

By: CGreene

Reviewed on: 17 Aug 2018

I arranged a church group of 55 for a Hawaiian cruise. This was our first time to use ShoreTrips and we had VIP treatment as compared to the mega busloads arriving from the ship/hotels excursions. Many times we had a site all to ourselves and then were leaving when the larger groups arrived. With all of the excitement about the active volcano, we weren't sure what to expect when we arrived on the Big Island. Those taking the helicopter ride raved about the experience and others were amazed to truly explore, taste and see that there is much more to her than only the volcanos. Every guide was lovely and professional, in fact, when I asked my group of to each submit 2 of their personal favorite photos, one was a guide on the last day in Honolulu for the private Pearl Harbor/airport excursion. It was nice to choose a selection of excursions for my group and ShoreTrips truly worked hard to make every trip come to fruition. Highly recommend all types of excursions with them.
