This fascinating and varied tour takes you first to two of Valencia’s main attractions: the Valencia Cathedral, built in the 13th century on the site of several earlier worship sites and the home of the Chapel of the Holy Grail; and the 15th century Lonja de la Seda, the Silk Exchange, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This building, built in 1498, has a fascinating history and is Flamboyant Gothic in style, the best example in Europe.
Then, for a dramatically contrasting view of the eastern Spanish coast, this tour takes you a short distance south of the city to the Albufera Nature Reserve, a wetland surrounded by rice fields, considered a paradise for migrating birds.
Albufera is the origin of paella and the location of the few remaining original "barracas" houses, historic fishing homes, one of which you will be fortunate to visit. First you will enjoy a leisurely boat ride across a freshwater lagoon rich with birds and fish. You’ll observe traditional eel fishing and be immersed in the beauty and the serenity of this place. Returning to your barraca, you will see how traditional paella is made on an old outdoor grill. While watching the local chef construct your paella, you can relax comfortably as if this were your own cabin. Constructed from adobe and finished with straw roofs, many are lacking electricity and running water and are the best example of sustainable architecture.
Lunch is served in this beautiful setting and is accompanied by several types of fresh salads. We highly recommend you enjoy the wine that is offered as a beverage option. This tour always delivers beyond your expectations and by removing yourself from the congested city life, you will create a special memory forever.
This succulent rice and seafood (or meat) dish, thought of outside of Spain as that country’s national dish, actually originated right here in Albufera and is known inside of Spain as a Valencian specialty.
