Your tour begins with the historic Basseterre City so have your cameras at the ready to take pictures of monumental landmarks such as the Berkeley Memorial, Independence Square (once was a slave market) and the Catholic Cathedral which showcase the proud heritage and culture of the Kittitian people today.
Your scenic journey into the past takes you to Wingfield Estate where ongoing restoration of its ruins, aqueduct, machinery, tall chimney, boiling pots and rum distillery of bygone times brings to life the fascinating history of the complex and highlights how rum was once made.
The historical past of St. Kitts comes alive at the fabled Clay Villa Plantation where guided tours of ‘’green’’ organics, colorful gardens, rescued wildlife, St. Kitts museum and the plantation house will leave with a new found appreciation of the island! This estate is still family owned going back seven generations with lineage connected to the original Caribbean Indians of St. Kitts.
At Clay Villa, you are invited to partake in tasting a selection of island made rums and enjoy a thirst quenching citrus rum/fruit punch which will have you asking for more.
Depart Clay Villa for the port, passing along the way the remnants of the St. Kitts Sugar Factory and the rum bottling and blending plant at Bird Rock where excellent rums such as C.S.R., Brinley’s and Belmont Estate are produced.
