Be sure and keep your camera within easy reach! Photo opportunities abound on this seafaring excursion that features abundant eagles and nests, Totem Bight State Park, Vallenar Rocks Wildlife Viewing Area, and historic Guard Island Lighthouse. Harbor seals, whales, deer, blue heron, and a variety of sea birds are seen throughout the season.
Along the way, you’ll hear about the area's maritime history, the rich Tlingit culture, the timber and fishing industries, and local lifestyles. You’ll observe harvested and old growth areas of the Tongass National Forest, and travel past historic Ward Cove Cannery. You’ll continue to Loggerville, the "Floating Ghost Town of Alaska," and circumnavigate the Guard Island Lighthouse, established in 1903 and now home to a family of harbor seals. You’ll view Totem Bight State Park with its impressive clan house and Ketchikan's tallest totem pole. As you travel beyond the park, you'll notice colorful cabins, one-of-a-kind homes, and mansions of the local rich and famous, many built on their own islands.
Our deckhands are happy to take photos of you in front of the lighthouse or totem park, or you can pose with your captain for a memorable photo in the wheelhouse.
Enjoy complimentary “Hot Chocolate Supreme,” coffee, tea, water, or soft drinks, along with salmon spread, cheese, crackers, fresh fruit, and cookies as we circumnavigate (or have clear viewing) of 12 islands, many of which are inhabited only by Alaska's wildlife.
Your day of discovery ends with a relaxing drive back to the pier.
