While driving through Genoa, it is easy to see why it has been given the nickname la Superba due to its impressive history and landmarks. Near the entrance of the city sits Christopher Colombo’s’ house, and on the way to the city’s historical center the Piazza della Vittoria, Piazza De Ferrari, Carlo Felice (the Opera House), Saint Lawrence’s Cathedral, and the Palazzo Ducale can be viewed. When arriving in the city’s historic center, one of the largest in Europe, is the Gallery Mazzini and then Via Aurea, and Via Garibaldi. Once all of the city sights have been seen, it is time to see it from a different viewpoint, after a drive up the hilly roads to Castelletto to enjoy the stunning views.

Viewing the Royal Palace is a must do in Genoa, with its construction beginning in the 17th century, it was worked on over time to become the beautiful building it is today. Inside, it still holds a lot of its original architectural features and furniture. It is now a museum where beautiful works of art, furniture from different time periods and lovely gardens can be seen. More impressive still is Prince Andrea Doria’s Palace. Andrea Doria was a famed arms man and admiral who began construction on this villa in the 16th century, his private retreat. It became, and still is today, the richest household in the city of Genoa. When it was time for his successors, the Doria Pamphilj family, to take over they chose this palace as their home.

Close to Andrea Doria’s Palace is Genoa’s Porto Antico (Old Port). Over time it has converted into a bustling tourist center featuring walkways along the harbor, museums, and the Aquario di Genoa (Genoa Aquarium). The Aquario di Genoa is largest aquarium of its kind in Europe and hosts exhibits on sea life and conservation.

Hop back in the vehicle and enjoy a drive along Genoa’s coastline, with a stop in Recco to taste a delicious local specialty. Focaccia al formaggio, is focaccia bread with melted cheese, which this small township province is famous for. With satisfied stomachs, it is time to move on to in Camogli, a small Italian fishing village. Located on the west side of the Portofino peninsula, it was once a significant seaport with a fleet of tall ships. Since its glory days in late Middle Ages, it is now filled with colorful houses, and every May celebrates its fishing past with a large festival.

With a scenic ride through an area filled with olive tree-covered hills and beautiful villas a stop will be made in Ruta where picturesque views of Genoa’s gulf can be taken in. Down the hilly road, a drive through the sophisticated streets the city of Santa Margherita before reaching Portofino. Portofino is a fishing village and resort town, with a striking harbor which has long been associated with vacationing celebrities over the years. There will be time to stop at a Piazzetta for some delicious local seafood. At the end of the day, it will be time to drive back to Genoa.

In Cozumel we enjoyed the snorkeling that we did off a catamaran. The staff was friendly, very professional, and helpful with my first time snorkeling daughter. Grand Cayman we went to sting ray city with a trip and snorkeling. Staff and trip was amazing, crew very helpful and fun. in Jamaica we did a Dunn's River Falls excursion and private beach. We had fun but were not impressed with the staff, and their timeliness (waited around alot),

We did a private whale watching tour which was incredible. The train ride in Sitka which we were not going to do at first was spectacular. Scenery, comfort - a wonderful way to see the area and spend our time. We signed up for a Mendenhall Glacier trip plus Salmon bake. This one was so very commercial and although the glacier and waterfall were above our expectations, a short time was given to walk there and view. This left out two of our party as they could not move as fast as needed to return in the time frame of one hour. Then the BAKE- the food was marginally ok. They were out of the most important SMORES ingredients. It is crazy but that was advertised (we were willing to break our diets ) and we looked forward to them and then disappointed. The people were nice. the area was pretty but that one I would strongly advise friend not to sign up for.

Great experience. The tours of the Louvre, and Notrre Dame were great. The guide even helped me try to get Eiffel tower admission tickets switched after I had booked them on the wrong date.

Summer Hawaii Cruise

By: CGreene

Reviewed on: 17 Aug 2018

I arranged a church group of 55 for a Hawaiian cruise. This was our first time to use ShoreTrips and we had VIP treatment as compared to the mega busloads arriving from the ship/hotels excursions. Many times we had a site all to ourselves and then were leaving when the larger groups arrived. With all of the excitement about the active volcano, we weren't sure what to expect when we arrived on the Big Island. Those taking the helicopter ride raved about the experience and others were amazed to truly explore, taste and see that there is much more to her than only the volcanos. Every guide was lovely and professional, in fact, when I asked my group of to each submit 2 of their personal favorite photos, one was a guide on the last day in Honolulu for the private Pearl Harbor/airport excursion. It was nice to choose a selection of excursions for my group and ShoreTrips truly worked hard to make every trip come to fruition. Highly recommend all types of excursions with them.
