Tastes of Lima

The excursion kicks off in a local roastery for a taste of organic, hand-picked Peruvian coffee. Continue on to explore the colonial streets of Lima´s bohemian district, Barranco, before heading to a traditional market in San Isidro to sample the exotic fruits and local products. From there you will stop in at the prestigious Embarcadero 41 Fusion, one of the city´s top seafood restaurants, to learn the secrets of the perfect ceviche and pisco sour as you prepare them yourself with the head chef and bartender. The excursion ends with lunch at La Huaca Pucllana, a beautiful restaurant that is actually located inside the grounds of ancient pre-Inca ruins.

No culinary exploration of Lima is complete without a tasty lesson in the Peruvian national drink. Atemporal will start your gastronomic evening with a brief description in the process, history, and culture of Pisco. You will not just learn, you will try varieties and end with a drink of your own and the knowledge of Pisco cocktails to ask for at dinner.

Arrive to Cusco and transfer to the Sacred Valley

Today you will fly to Cusco. On arrival to Cusco you will be welcomed by your host and taken to the Sacred Valley.

Visit Pisac Market

In the shadows of the mountains east of the Sacred Valley lies the traditional Andean town of Pisac. The town center is a thriving hub of commerce that still operates as it has since Incan times; with stalls filling the plaza selling everything under the Peruvian sun, and locals coming down from the highlands to exchange their produce for necessities as well as luxuries in a trade called “trueque”.

Feel the pride in every detail as the third generation owners of Hacienda Sarampama, host an exploration of the property ending in a delicious farm to table lunch. Guests will witness the locals at work, and learn the history, spiritual significance and future of the famous giant white Andean corn. More than just an elegant lunch, it is an entertaining cultural journey.

Kayaking and Mountain Biking Maras & Moray

Set in the gorgeous Andean countryside amidst tranquil farms, Lake Huaypo is the perfect place to take in the scenery and spot rare birds while enjoying the Sacred Valley sunshine and some light exercise as well. After about an hour and a half on the water, a gourmet boxed lunch will be waiting for you on the banks of the lake. Eat your fill before continuing on by bike to explore the awe-inspiring Incan ruins at Moray and the unique salt mines at Maras. The amount and difficulty of the biking adventure is customizable depending on your skill level and desired intensity.

Scratching the surface of the heavens from its place atop the grandest of mountaintop pedestals, it is easy to lose yourself in the mystique and grandeur of this enigmatic citadel. Soak in the energy and atmosphere of one of the most significant archeological sites on the planet while your guide helps you uncover the secrets behind key areas of interest such as the Intihuatana (the sun dial), Inti Punku (the sun gate), the Sacred Plaza, and the Temple of the Sun.

Allow approximately three hours for guided exploration, but feel free to stay and explore on your own as your schedule allows.

Day 6
Aguas Calientes, Peru
Belmond Palacio Nazarenas Breakfast

Hike Wayna Picchu

Take a short walk from your hotel, followed by a 30-minute bus ride to Machu Picchu citadel (8,000 ft. – 2,432 m above sea level).

This ascent is an absolute must-do for the adventurous! Trek for approximately 2 hours from the archeological site, reaching the summit of Wayna Picchu. There are two entrance opportunities dependent on availability: 7am or 10am. We will choose the 7am time for you unless requested otherwise.

Your switchback ascent brings you to the spectacular summit for an extremely privileged panoramic view of Machu Picchu Citadel and the jagged, larger-than-life Andes. This hike is as rewarding as it is demanding. Allow about two hours for the hike, and be prepared for a short section of narrow mountain-side stairs that are not for the faint of heart.

In the afternoon you will have your return train to Ollantaytambo or Poroy from where you will be taken back to Cusco and your hotel.

Overnight in the Belmond Palacio Nazarenas Hotel.

Day 7
Cusco, Peru
Belmond Palacio Nazarenas Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Cusco Culinary Experience

Embark on a gastronomic adventure with your talented and bi-lingual chef, learning the process behind Cusco´s delightful Andean cuisine and allowing this process to be a cultural bridge, connecting you with the land that provides the ingredients and the people who depend on them. This fun, interactive workshop includes a visit to a local market before heading to the beautiful gastronomic space with spectacular views of Cusco for your lesson, drinks, and lunch.

Dinner at Map Cafe, located in the patio of the Museo de Arte Precolombino, its glass cube shape is in sharp contrast but manages to blend seamlessly with the colonial architecture that houses the museum.

Candlelight and the chords of an Andean harp prepare us for the final seduction: the glorious food. The menu is innovative and a huge success. Renowned chef Coque Ossio has opted for a daring reinterpretation of Peruvian classic cuisine with a very personal touch. He has achieved memorable results such as the hot shrimp ceviche or his version of marinated pork. The desserts, created by Rebeca Delgado, are heavenly, unforgettable, designer pieces. This place is a feast for the eyes and the palate.

Day 8
Puno, Peru
Titilaka - Relais & Chateaux Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack

Travel to Lake Titicaca

Today you will have your flight to Juliaca, the airport closest to the majestic Lake Titicaca, the highest navigable lake in the world. On arrival at the airport you will be welcomed and taken to the hotel.

The good food at Titilaka comes from more than the skillful hands of the chef, it is also the rich and diverse local produce. Two such important and delicious of these are trout and the super grain, quinoa. Starting with trout, visit a local farm 30mins from the lodge to learn about the local life, history and experiment that changed the local diet and created valuable jobs.

Upon return to Titilaka, get a quick lesson in trout recipes before enjoying a private lunch in the boat house or take your pick from the menu in the main dining room.

Get your hands dirty (or not) traversing the surrounding quinoa crops with the locals in the afternoon. Live and learn the process before heading back to the lodge for quinoa pancakes and tea time.

Day 9
Puno, Peru
Titilaka - Relais & Chateaux Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack

Island of Lake Titikaka Excursions

Explore the Uros floating islands and the Island of Taquile on this full-day trip, one of our most popular excursions.

Neither land, sky, or water, but rather at the intersection of the three, Totora, or junco reed roots, serve as unique building material for the floating islands of the Uros Titino communities of Lake Titicaca.

The Islands of Lake Titicaca excursion brings our guests close to the islands’ Uro-Aymara communities, providing a unique opportunity to grow personally acquainted with the men –skilled reed raftsmen–, and women, - expert weavers famous for their craft–, as well as the ancestral techniques used to keep their islands afloat, among other aspects of their remarkable heritage.

In Taquile, for example, guests will experience the Quechua imagination in the textile weavings unique to the area and recently included in UNESCO’s Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.

Enjoy lunch outdoors as you treat yourself to the grandeur of Puno’s deep blue skies mirrored across Lake Titicaca with views of Bolivia’s Cordillera Real, or Royal Mountain Range, in the background.

Day 10
Puno, Peru
Titilaka - Relais & Chateaux Breakfast, Snack

Travel from Lake Titicaca to Lima

Today you will be taken to the airport in Juliaca for your flight to Lima. Depending on the flight times you may be able to enjoy another excursion en route to the airport. The en route excursion involves a visit to the mysterious, ancient site of Sillustani, home to the area’s best preserved chullpas, or funerary towers. Once a burial ground for the Pucara, Tiahuanaco, and Ccolla pre-Inca cultures, and then the Incas themselves, Sillustani’s chullpas offer an ideal opportunity to compare the contrasting pre-Columbian architectonic styles.

Symbolizing life and birth, these ancient tombs were used for chiefs and other dignitaries. Made of stones weighing up to six tons, the biggest tower took around 50 years to complete. Offering archaeology and history, in a stunning natural setting, Sillustani is an impressive site we strongly recommend you see.

From Juliaca Airport you will fly to Lima.
