Private transfers by luxury minivan with platform lift are included for all transport in this itinerary

Your hotel room with king-size bed is fully equipped for disabled guests

Day 2
Rome, Italy
Hotel Rose Garden Palace Breakfast

Explore the labyrinth of narrow streets and beautiful, wide open piazzas of central Rome with your expert guide. Discover a lively hub of Roman life at the Campo dei Fiori marketplace before the spectacle of the Piazza Navona opens before you. The stunning oval-shaped piazza maintains the form of its original purpose as a Roman athletics track. Today the piazza is flanked by cafes and restaurants with al fresco terraces, and whose centrepiece is Bernini's famous Quattro Fiumi fountain. A short stroll away is the Pantheon, arguably Rome's most inspiring site - the best preserved of all Roman monuments in the city. A short walk through narrow cobble-stone streets with your guide brings you past the ministries of the Italian Government, across the Via del Corso to the world-famous Trevi Fountain. Be sure to throw in a coin to ensure you will return to Rome one day! Finally, your guide shows you the elegant Piazza di Spagna, with the Spanish Steps rising to the Trinita di Monti.

After free time for lunch, discover Rome’s Priscilla catacomb, one of Rome’s most important underground burial chambers. In burying their dead in underground cemeteries outside of the city walls, the early Christians were simply obeying the laws of time. They were not forced to use them because of persecution, as later popular myth has suggested. Many saints were buried here, and the catacomb later became shrines and places of pilgrimage

Day 3
Rome, Italy
Hotel Rose Garden Palace Breakfast

Your tour today will no doubt leave you in awe as your guide shows you the heart of the Roman Empire. Marvel at the imposing Colosseum which was commissioned by Emperor Vespasian. The stadium accommodated up to 50,000 spectators who came to view the gladiatorial battles that lasted up to one-hundred days! Adjacent is the Arc of Constantine; dating from AD 315 it is a forerunner to many other Triumphal Arches around the world.

Inside the Colosseum a wheelchair ramp leads to an elevator which you can take to the upper floor.

Possibly even more impressive are the excavations of the vast Roman Forum, where the remains of temples, streetscapes and palaces can now be visited up close. Your guide helps brings to life the atmosphere of Rome's pulsating heart, crowded with people from across the Roman Empire. Next your guide also explains the other nearby Emperor's forums; Trajan, Augustus and Caesar.

Please note that you will see the ruins from the Via Dei Fori Imperiali street. We do not recommend visiting inside because much of the ground in the Roman Forum is too uneven for wheelchair users. Though disabled access to the Roman Forum has improved in the past few years with the installation of an elevator at the entrance, only about 20% of the forum itself is made up of wheelchair-friendly ground

Afterwards travel across the Tiber River to the Trastevere district to explore the lesser-known side of Rome as you get a sense of the city from a local’s perspective, with its bustling market and ancient maze of streets. So called because it lies across the River Tiber, Trastevere was once the bohemian quarter of Rome and still retains its arty edge today.

At the end of the tour you will enjoy a wine tasting at a typical enoteca before being privately transferred back to your hotel.

Day 4
Rome, Italy
Hotel Rose Garden Palace Breakfast

The independent state of the Vatican City was established by the Lateran Treaty in 1929, and is the smallest in the world. Cross the Tiber River into this awe-inspiring place with your expert guide and vehicle. Visit the Vatican Museums, part of the Papal Residence, which is estimated to contain 1400 rooms, chapels and galleries. The Museums contain an extraordinarily rich collection of precious arts, maps, sculptures and antiquities; however the most breath taking masterpiece is Michelangelo's frescoed ceiling in the Sistine Chapel. At the centre of the Vatican lies the vast Basilica of St. Peter; you pass by the colourfully-dressed Swiss Guard into the world's largest church. The present Cathedral is a beautiful mix of Renaissance and Baroque architecture, formed under the hands of masters such as Michelangelo. The stunning interior is an elaborate and detailed display of marble, mosaic, gilt and bronze. The Vatican requires visitors to cover upper arms and legs to below the knee.

Most of the museum spaces are accessible to people with disabilities. To facilitate the visit, the Vatican Museums advise a visit without barriers, which, thanks to assistance from the Guard Corps, will enable visitors to easily reach the main services and places of interest.

The Museums are accessible also to visitors on mobility scooters and with electric wheelchairs. However, due to space limitations, access or use is not permitted in some museum areas. In this case, the visitor will be invited to transfer to a traditional wheelchair, which may be hired free of charge in the entrance hall.

Toilets specially equipped for the disabled are located along the itinerary and at all dining and refreshments points

A & K are outstanding tour operators. From the moment they meet you at the airport until they arrive to accompany you back to the airport everyone is on time, knowledgeable and responsive throughout the trip. We went to 5 cities in 9 days. Our guides were incredible in sharing their knowledge about the city, answering questions and helping us find places to eat. I cannot say enough about this group. Our drivers were also wonderful and as we went from city to city our driver got in touch with the guides and we always knew where to meet them before and after the tour. This is where A&K shines. I have used them on every trip I have taken and never been disappointed. Their people are responsible, responsive, knowledgeable and on time. I don’t know how anyone travels without them!
